Finally! Now that the show has aired, I can talk about the Travel Channel show on the Ultimate Disney Fan's Guide to Walt Disney World. I'm a lurker and former contributor to this board, and we're the Lloyd family on this show that premiered today. It was such a hoot! Tonight we had a housefull to watch the first show tonight. In reality, the experience of shooting the production with the Lightship Entertainment people was a lifetime highlight!

I'd love to hear anyone else's take on the show. It will air today at 8:00pm and 11:00pm central time and August 5 at 8:00pm and 11:00pm central time. Let me know what you think!

Howdy! Good to see you.

I'd like to know - what did Travel Channel/Lightship cut out from your experiences? I saw some Country Bear footage on there for a split second. . . and a family singing "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" - but alas - no actual focus. This upset me.

Any insight? Thank you!

Not to hurt your feelings, but many on this board and me as well, found the show horrible. Were you the guy at the Animal Kingdom?

how many TV shows have you been in? 0

Dave Lloyd, at least 1.

Dave wins.

Now don't speak till you turn 30

Yes, I'm the guy with the family at the AKL in the production. Thanks to those who gave words of support. The production took two full days to shoot, and of course they shot the most popular rides and didn't take any quotes about unofficial web sites, crowd adversions, and how to do things on the cheap.

Remember, they had Disney exec's with us all the time. We knew what we would and wouldn't be able to talk about, and with a free trip and two rooms in AKL, I was not about to argue! Remember, target audience of those watching this production are not the small segment of hard-core Disney people like us, but those needing the simple introduction and tips.

Frankly, there were some things I didn't agree with with some of the other families tips, but that's the beauty of different inturpretations of a family vacation.

For our family -- it was a great experience, and a whole lot of fun to watch for the first time tonight. Hope others felt the same way.

Hey Dave! Glad to know one of the people on the show is also a member on these here boards :D! I don't know what other people think, nor understand why some choose to be rude about it, but I happened to like the show. Sure they may have covered a lot of the same things as in other shows (i.e. rides like ToT, M:S and Test Track), but they also included segments on things we haven't seen as much. For example, they showed the couple (the Levy's?) going to Ice Station Cool and to The Art of Disney. In fact, I think I learned something from your particular segment that I did not know before. I believe it was the tidbit about the parade passing by the same location twice :D. I haven't been to AK in a couple of years but I definitely want to this year to check out the parade. They also focused a bit on the Baby Care Center which is something relatively new in these shows.

My only disappointments were that they didn't focus on rides such as CoP and SSE. Also, I think they could have done a lot more with this show and made it longer. Did they cut a lot of stuff from your experience as Grizz said? Otherwise, great job and welcome to the boards!

That's my 2 cents :D.

Edit: You answered my question pretty much...disregard it if you like

Yes, they did take out quite a bit. For instance, we took 4 rides in a row on Primevil Whirl that didn't show up at all. We also had a real funny experience on Kali River Rapids -- another family took the two trips with us. We had our poncho's, they didn't. The reason you don't have any audio of us on Kali (and we did a play-by-play with full waterproof camera and sound setup) is because the other family got soaked and cursed up a storm! Other things that weren't included in the video was our trip through Tough 2B a Bug, eating at Rainforest, and gaulking at the (at that time) new bridge from Asia to Dinoland.

Our tour plan included the early trip to AK for the sunrise safari (which was setup for the production), and leaving before dinner at Boma's. You might remember that we then went to the MK for the rest of the evening. The rational was that by 4:00, we'd have done the whole AK a few times over. It payed off well, too because we got escorted to prime locations for both Spectro and Wishes (another story in itself).

We had also asked for an audience with "Devine" and gave some "shortcuts" through the park that were cut out.

Just remember, the production was for the majority of those watching the travel channel -- maybe someday we could make a web version of the "real story."

I'm still very angry with that lady at Lightship who called me once for a phone interview and when I called back, she said she'd have to call me back. Three more times we went through that then I just gave up and she never called me back. What a waste of buying a new tape, paying to mail it in, etc. She's getting a letter from me. Irecleanos or something was her name.

Dave,

Congratulation on being selected for the TC special and welcome to posting on WDWMagic. You've exposured yourself now, so your lurking days are over (hopefully). :D

My question is; how did your family score the AKL (2 concerige rooms no less) and the other family wound up at a value resort? Was is the size of the groups? Luck of the draw? First family selected? Good job!

The group at the production company told us which park and resort we would be reporting on. It made some sence when you think about it -- the extended family with young kids at the MK, the honeymooners at Epcot, the young adults at MGM. We were a little disappointed when they assigned us Animal Kingdom, but staying at AKL was enough for us not to argue! I felt bad when I saw the we were at AKL, another was at the Poly, another was at the GF, and then the largest was at Pop Century! But they were trying to showcase that new resort.

Welcome Dave!

I started to watch the special but got sidetracked. I plan on catching it the next time around.
I love watching anything from Disney - it gives me a chance to see some part of the parks! I can imagine how awesome that must have been - we had a production company film at our studio and it was fun to watch (we had small cameos in the movie)

Congrats on scoring a great opportunity!

It made sense that the family with small children stayed in the Value resort since kids seem to LOVE those.

My only disappointment with the show was that in trying to cram 4 groups in 4 different parks in one hour, they left out so much information. They could have done 4 different shows one hour each and so much more information would have been shown.

I bet it was fun doing the show though and a great experience for the whole family. What a great Disney memory! Congratulations on being selected. :)

Yeah I saw the show last night. I'm actually going in a week exactly!!! YAY and staying at the animal kingdom lodge too. My favorite place....maybe that's why I liked your segment the best haha. Too bad i can't say the same for Boma though......I've tried it twice but I ended up getting sick both times.....but I guess third time is a charm. Anyway I thought the show was good (hey I'll watch anything about Disney World on TV), so I hope you guys had fun.

That was our same thought. We shot from 5:30am to 11:00pm on the first day, and 5 more hours the second day. There was SO MUCH left out. We were told that the Discovery HD version has a whopping 9-minutes more that what we saw on the Travel Channel. I'm anxious to get that version on DVD.
