Transformers: The Ride opening date

Did the Starbucks actually open? Surprised the news thread isn't overrun with 100s of photos. And a heated, 200-post debate over whether the Starbucks cinnamon rolls have the same magical flavor as Main St. Bakery cinnamon rolls.

Uh, as far as I'm aware, no it has not. I believe the opening date is still set for the 17th.

Got to ride it today, here are my initial thoughts. Great ride, and if it were anywhere other than Orlando it would be unquestionably amazing. It is very similar to Spider-Man, though, even down to using some of the same elements such as being pulled by something through the air, falling and being caught, and pulling away from the enemy grabbing you. I'm not sure and I'd have to ride them back to back, but I think this might throw you around a little more than Spider-Man, but it doesn't have any moments where the car spins 360 degrees. People mentioned that this lacks any physical sets, but they are pretty much between every screen transition. The biggest difference between this and Spider-Man, to me, is that Spidey has longer sections while transitioning to the next screen with bigger sets, where here the gaps between screens are all very short. The pacing here isn't as good as in Spider-Man, for instance there are a few moments where you just watch the robots punch each other nothing is happening to you.

Still, despite it's flaws, this is the best new ride in Orlando since... Potter.

If only they would've used actual animatronics AND screens...then it would feel quite different.

Yeah, another thing Spiderman has over it is that the physical sets between the screens actually do things, for example, the spider signal, the truck, the floating box and Statue of Liberty head, spinning out of control through the sewer tunnels, the exploding pumpkin, the levitating effect, etc. Transformers does sort of make up for this though in a way by having more of the screens act as a motion simulator, as in, what's on the screen is what your car is doing, rather than just part of the scene. In Spider-Man, this doesn't happen until you are flying.

I'm sorry but Spiderman seems dated compared to this new ride.

You really lose yourself with Transformers, you get emersed into the world.

With Spiderman, because of the breaks between live action, and screens, you can always feel the it's a 'ride'. With Transformers the transitions are smaller and more seamless.

The segment when you're in the building, and falling down ... amazing !

Transformers does feel like the slow spots were worked out of it more. I prefer Transformers , but to each their own. I'm sure this will be a good hearted mini debate for a while now.

i havent read the entire thread but hid anything i thought to be spoiler-ish as to not ruin anyones riding experience, just highlight to read. :)

i like both and TF is fantastic but spidey is my favorite but just by a little. i didnt mind the screens and the lack of physical sets as i thought they did a great job with the smaller and larger screen capabilities. the moment OP transforms in front of you is really awesome and you realize just how big the screen actually is. the smaller screens when megaton is trying to attack you were really well done. what i thought stood out was evac's voice(he sounded too human imo) and his arm popping on screen. i thought i was in duke nuke'm or doom for a moment. just weird, but again my singular opinion.

More physical sets wouldn't make sense for TF imo. The scale is too large. Spidey's scale is much smaller except in the levitation scenes, which don't make use of physical sets between screens. TF is like that for almost the whole ride. Still, TF's smaller-scale scenes do use sets, like the wall Evac almost runs into, and the set seen after being flung into the building. It's the inverse of Spidey in terms of scale. TF just generally has you moving too fast and too far (narrative-wise) for elaborate sets to make sense. Spidey is way more intimate.

Rode again and more effects were working than the first time I rode (makes sense since its still in "technical rehearsal"). Actually, the more I ride it, the more I like it. Also, there are more physical sets than the initial consensus would lead you to believe. Even though at a lot of times you actually are, it never really feels like you are *just* looking at a screen.

I rode Transformers on Tuesday and was thoroughly impressed!

I had 8 young adults who had never been to Universal Orlando. We went to IOA and US, between Spiderman and Transformers it was unanimous, all 8 preferred Transformers.
