Anyone else geeking out about the new live action movie. The teaser trailer didn’t show to much but still was cool. And I was totally excited when they announced at comic con that Peter Cullen, the voice of Winnie The Pooh's Eeyore and the original cartoon voice of Optimus Prime would reprise his role as the autobot leader. I cant wait for this movie, I havent been this excited since revenge of the sith. Or am I the only one whos inner nerd is showing through?

I'm rather skeptical about this since it is being directed by Micheal Bay who really is one of the worst directors in hollywood right now especially after Pearl Harbor and The Island.

i'm warry, while getting Peter Cullen is awesome, there's alot that that bothers me:
* Michael Bay, 'nuff said
* focus too much on Spike and the other humans
* Bumblebee is a musclecar, i know that VW won't let him be a Beetle, but a muscle car is completely wrong for the character. it makes me wonder who else has changed
* they're changing the designs too much, early reports are that the TF's will appear rather "skeletal" with exposed engine parts and such, instead of using the classic iconic designs that have been time tested. apparently they went around and around on what Prime would look like in the end, which is ridiculous, he already has the PERFECT design from G1, there's no reason not to use it. current reports are that he's mostly BLUE, and his alt-mode will have a flame paint job. ugh

Yea Bay might not be the best director but I am still optimistic because Spielberg is involved. I too hope they don’t stray to far from the G1 design, Prime is/was perfect, so yea why change it. Time will tell once the CG transformers start to be shown.

Go see Monster House and you might lose your optimism. An ugly little film I had the displeasure to watch with about a dozen other unfortunates this afternoon.

I agree that the trailer does bring Mission:Space to mind. I knew it looked familiar. I just couldn't place it until your post, STR8FAN.

The full trailer is out and 2 TV spots and it does look very cool. It looks like Bay might have done good with this one. I was skeptical about how the transformers themselves would look, but so far the robots look awesome! Did anyone else see the new trailers and what did you think? only 3 months to go!

That footage was taken directly from Apollo 13.

I'm psyched about this. Sure Megatron is horrible looking...and Optimus has a paint job. Big deal...have you seen him in his robot form? It's actually pretty cool...and his head looks a lot like the G1 version.

Michael Bay, like him or not, does some of the best action sequences in Hollywood. This isn't going to win any awards for "Best Picture" but that's not what the Transformers are about. It's all about big robots from another planet coming to Earth, taking on alternate modes so that they can go undetected, looking for energy...and waging battle with each other. If that's what this movie is going to be about...I'm all for it.

I am extremely disappointed with Bumblebee though. Ok, so they couldn't get the rights from VW (understandable)...but why not a Mini? Or a Yaris? Or a Smart Car? Something small...heck, even an old MG, Yugo, or Fiat.
Bumblebee was always the little guy...I wouldn't consider a Muscle Car (Camaro) to be a "little guy."

EDIT: Hopefully this will rake in the dough so that the He-Man live action movie will get fasttracked.
Originally John Woo was directing it...but it sat stagnant for so long that Fox had to give the rights back to Mattel. The writer, Adam Rifkin, stated that it is in the works, it will get made...but legally he can't say anything more (as far as the studio or the director are concerned).

Transformers, more than meets the eye.
Transformers, robots in disguise.

I believe I'm still picking up pieces of plastic robot from years ago. And didn't they spin off to become Beast Wars? I vaguely remember an Optimus Prime in that group, also.

Yes, there was a generation of Transformers known as Beast Wars. I believe they are on another Generation now called "Cybertron."

Beast Wars actually wasn't that bad. Nothing compares to the original though...I didn't even like the second-gen.

It seems that the movie is taking characters from Generation 1 but completely revamping them. Aside from Optimus being a truck...I don't think any of the robots actually turn into the vehicles/alt. modes they turned into in the show and comic book.

BTW...for those of you that saw the third trailer. Could that have been Soundwave making an appearance?!?!?! If you watch it...it looks as if there is a little robot under a seat. I know in "alt-mode" Soundwave was the size of a cassette recorder...but in robot mode was a full-size robot. Could this have been a "sneak-teaser" for Soundwave??? I certainly hope so because he was my favorite Decepticon.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

They did say that soundwave was not going to be in it. The transformer in your pick is probably frenzy. They said on the transformers site It started as soundwave but wasnt working. You can see the Q&A at www.transformersmovie.com under the videos section. It has some good info.

Thats how I feel too. I hope they do an overall great job on this so they make the next 2 movies like they are saying they want to. Nothing will compare to Prime running around kicking some decepticon butt!!!:sohappy:

Personally, other than Peter Cullen being back as the voice of Optimus Prime, I have not liked anything I have read or seen about this movie. I don't like the robot designs, the fact that Bumblebee is a Camaro or even what little acting I've seen the the trailers. I'm probably going to end up seeing it, because my son will want to go, but it's going to take a lot to get me to like it.

What are you looking to get out of it?

Autobots vs. Decepticons? Check.
Optimus Prime as a big rig? Check.
Megatron and Starscream raggin' on each other? Check.
Main purpose of them being here is for more energy? Check.

Ok, so the designs of the robots aren't the best...but they had to make it "believable." These are alien beings from another planet...not robots that Sony made. These are organic creatures...they're not going to be boxy. As long as they make the actual alt. modes transform into a robot without "liquid metal" effects...I'm perfectly ok with it.

I hear people complaining about this movie all over the place and I really can't understand why. Think about this for a minute...Generation 1 was definitely the best...but is it still around? No. Why? People got bored of them...they need to keep the name fresh. New toylines are coming out for this movie so the ability to take the vehicle and transform them into the robot we see on the movie screen is do-able.

Beast Wars was a reinvention of the franchise and did a pretty darn good job of it. Sure, they could've resurrected the old G1 line and it would've lasted for a little while but only for nostalgia reasons...not because newcomers were interested in them.

I, for one, am looking forward to this movie...but I'm just amazed at how many Transformers fans ARE NOT looking forward to it.

I agree I was as big a G1 transformers fan as any, and I still am. People just don’t seem to get that they couldn’t just make things disappear and reappear and float away. The robots had to be believable when they transform (as believable as a 30ft robot can be). The other thing that people need to understand is they had to try and make it to appease the diehards and kids and people who don’t really know who the transformers are. That has to be very hard thing to do, keep it fresh but true to the original.

Hey! I used to speak fluent Beast Wars! I still have a whole box full of them. And I guess The Daughter had a few transformers? I just remember hearing the theme song in the background.

BTW, I used to be fairly fluent in Pokemon. ;)

Exactly...think about it.

Where did Optimus Prime's trailer go when he transformed? And...if it was just going to "disappear," why did he have one to begin with?

Soundwave "irked" me as a kid because he was a little cassette player and then grew to normal size as a robot. Why? They never explained it. Even as a toy...I didn't "get it" because I thought that the toys would've been much better if they were scaled correctly. Why is a big rig smaller than a cassette player? (I'm strictly talking about the toys). I understand that they couldn't be "exact" with the scales...but they could've been close.

Another thing that bothered me was the weapons. Take Soundwave as an example again...he had that shoulder-mounted cannon as a robot...Where did it go when he transformed into the Tape deck?

People complain about the "liberties" being taken with the robot designs and their alt. modes...but let me ask you this...When, in the cartoon or comic book...did Megatron ever transform into an old six-shooter? Never. But, as a toy...he did.

Now, I ask you...who was your favorite Transformer?

My favorite would have to be Mirage (F-1 blue and white racecar) and Shockwave (purple gun with no face...just a blinking light)
