Now, I ask you...who was your favorite Transformer?

My favorite would have to be Mirage (F-1 blue and white racecar) and Shockwave (purple gun with no face...just a blinking light)

Man thats a tough question. I would have to say Prime was the my ultimate favorite. but right behind would be Ultra magnis, blue streak and Jazz. And for the Decepticons, Ravage, shockwave and skywarp.

Actually, have you seen the new toyline called "Alternators?"

They took real cars from today and updated the old G1 line.

(See, THIS is how the movie should've been done).

Here are some pics...of the transformers we mentioned.

Here are Jazz and Mirage.

I am completely geeked for this movie. I even broke out my DVD for the original Transformers movie as well as the soundtrack this weekend.

See, I would have been fine with those as the robot designs, but I just really don't like the look of them in the slightest when they take robot form. I can understand where you are coming from, but you won't convince me that those were the best designs they could come up with for the movie.

As far as Soundwave transforming into a small cassette player, I just look at it like this: If you've ever watched Star Trek: DS9, Odo had something in his physiology called a Morphogenic Matrix. This is what allowed him to change into something far smaller or far larger than his "normal" size, a rat for example. Transformers likely have something similar which effectively "absorbs" extra materials. When they return to robot mode, it releases those materials to be re-integrated. Remember, none of the Transformers originally changed into the vehicles that we know them as when they were on Cybertron. It was only when the probe on the Autobots ship activated and started to find new forms for all of them, including the Decepticons(since it activated and repaired a Decepticon first). We know because of this that it's possible to have the alt mode altered for a Transformer, so it would need to be able to do something with the excess materials if the new form was smaller than the previous form.

I do know what you're saying about the designs...I think they could've been better and you should be able to tell what the alt-mode is in robot form. Think about what makes a vehicle though...it's not just the sheetmetal. They needed to use every piece of the vehicle to transform...the toys and Gen1 just did the exterior bodywork.

Even though I don't like the fact that Bumblebee is a camaro...I think his robot form is spot on! You can tell that it was a camaro that changed shape into a robot. There are some other characters that aren't as easy...but as long as you can believe that the vehicle changed shape (without the liquid metal effects) and turned into a robot...I'll be fine with it.

You got the touch! You got the power!!!!:sohappy:
Yea I broke out my DVD when the trailer came out like the big dork that I am. It still makes me mad when prime dies.

I have seen them they look very good. And wheel jack is awesome. It would have been cool for them to use them in the movie but from what I have seen so far Im not that concerned about the alt forms they have done.

The only one that I don't like is Megatron...but I think that's because he doesn't take an "Earth-Alt" mode in the movie.
That will probably come in the 2nd movie along with sound wave if this one is a success.

Even the music from that scene will get me misty eyed. I was quite surprised with his death when I saw the movie in theaters. I honestly can't think of another movie that essentially killed off the main hero and villain in the first 15 minutes.

The first time my son saw the original movie, he was bawling his eyes out when Optimus Prime died. I had to promise him that Optimus Prime does come back from the dead in the series. I tracked down a VCD that had the return of Optimus Prime on it before the DVD series set finally came out with it. Made him a lot happier when he saw it.

I have Wheeljack and the Yellow Jeep (the name escapes me at the moment).

Let me tell you this...no kid is transforming these things...they are SO hard to change between alt-robot mode. They're not "toys" but more collectibles that you put on a shelf and leave in the mode you want them in.

The one thing I find kind of strange is how they are using Peter Cullen for the movie and not Frank Welker(the orig.voice of megatron). Yet in the official movie video game (thats so far looking pretty cool) they signed both. I just think they should have had Welker do the voice for the movie. How much, if anything, would it have cost them extra? I doubt anything.

Ohhh I hadn't heard any info on a video game. Any idea on what systems it will come out for? (A "Transformable" Wii controller would be cool :lookaroun )

Does Welker have the right voice for THIS Megatron? I actually think they made the right decision with Hugo (or at least Leonard Nimoy). I just think that a raspy voice like Welker's on this horrid design of Megatron wouldn't work right. I guess only time will tell...and now we'll have the ability to make an educated decision between the movie and game.

EDIT: BTW...new Alternators are coming out once hype from the movie toys dies down. Rumor has it that plans have been found for a new Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Jazz, and Megatron. (Bumblebee and Cliffjumper are both VW New Beetles...one yellow...and one red with ski racks.) Jazz's new alternator version will be a Porsche Boxster (current version is a silver Mazda RX-8)...and Megatron will be a silver Cadillac XLR. Now...why would VW allow them to use the New Beetle for a toy and not the movie??? I think it has more to do with GM than VW.

So far it is planned for everything, xbox 360, ps3, wii, ps2, DS and psp. I have only checked out the info on the 360/ps3 version. I cant wait to see a demo of the game, you can play through as autobot or decepticon. They said each path is different. It comes out about june 19th. game spot has a couple interviews with peter and frank about making the game.

The new alternators sound cool I will be keeping an eye out for them.

This is gonna be awesome!!! I am one of the biggest TF collectors on the east coast. Look up KevGuy on Ebay sometime lol, that is me!! :D My 6 year old son who is also a huge fan will be going the day after it comes out
(Jul 4th) and seeing it. I have literally every G1 figure produced, most of the G2, all the Beast Wars and anything I can find with a TF logo on it. My prize possesion is my Fortress Maximus almost 2 feet tall lol. My son loves Soundwave and especially Lazer beak, in fact he takes Lazer in his pocket everywhere and yes my son has a ton of the G1 toys he plays with. I bought and traded for open unboxed figures for him once he decided he liked them a lot, hehehe. I'm just a big kid who never grew up according to my wife. I look at it like I'm a kid that can afford his toys lol. I imagine I could sell my whole collection and buy several banks of points in DVC lol, my wife thinks so too. Hmmm....

What do you think of the new designs (coming from a fan's standpoint)?

Optimus could do without the flames...and Bumblebee shouldn't have been a camaro...but I think they did everybody else pretty well (Although, I'm not liking the robot form of Megatron at ALL)

Looks like the official full movie trailer for transformers will be in front of pirates. Thats a double bonus for me! I hope they show the robots more, not just the quick flashes we have seen so far. I want to see Prime kicking some tail!
