Walt was dead, he had nothing to do with the content of Magic Kingdom. With a central hub and castle, a railroad running round the outside and some familiar rides and lands.
Yeah, totally different!

I believe he had the idea of creating a new theme park in the swamplands of Florida. And set about buying up land to do so.Walt was dead, he had nothing to do with the content of Magic Kingdom.
How is DHS messier than DCA? Atleast it has a theme rooted in hollywood from classics to films while DCA is supposed to be about California and has random stuff like Avengers and pixar pier.It doesn’t feel as messy as DHS and no worse than DCA to me. Actually DCA will probably be worse when it’s done vs. Studios after Frozen.
Only MMRR was developed with the intent of cloning. They often develop a land or ride with the intent of building multiple versions due to r/d costs. See Tron, MMRR, 7DMT etc..
Am I right in thinking Galaxy’s Edge was also always intended to be duplicated across both US parks?Only MMRR was developed with the intent of cloning.
Yes. Once the DHS location was defined it was a simultaneous design. Even down to one being called East, the other West.Am I right in thinking Galaxy’s Edge was also always intended to be duplicated across both US parks?
yeah… they both have gotten worse in recent years. Overall I still think DCA is a better and more complete park. It seems cleaner design wise with the big visual issue being guardians. But things are still grouped more sensibly and there are so many more attractions. How is DHS messier than DCA? Atleast it has a theme rooted in hollywood from classics to films while DCA is supposed to be about California and has random stuff like Avengers and pixar pier.
He agreed to do a second theme park in Florida but that was about it. When asked about it he said it wouldn’t be like Disneyland and that he wouldn’t really be that involved in developing the park because WED would be able to handle that. His focus was on EPCOT.I believe he had the idea of creating a new theme park in the swamplands of Florida. And set about buying up land to do so.
And the history I’ve read suggest he had a vision for MK, including differences between DL and Magic Kingdom for Fantasyland.
Are you saying he didn’t want any duplication between the two parks? That it was Ron who redesigned Walt’s vision and insisted they have a Castle in the middle surrounded by Lands etc ?
Even down to Disney’s Hollywood Studios being able to handle an earthquake well and Disneyland a hurricane.Yes. Once the DHS location was defined it was a simultaneous design. Even down to one being called East, the other West.
Imagine that.Even down to Disney’s Hollywood Studios being able to handle an earthquake well and Disneyland a hurricane.

No actual design work on the park occurred during his lifetime. The Disney World master plan just used a placeholder copy of Disneyland (and no, that isn’t an indication of intent unless you believe the second park at Universal Beijing is going to be Universal Studios Florida). Roy didn’t redesign Walt’s vision because there was nothing to redesign.
So in your view this website is a load of crock then? It goes into quite a lot of detail as to the changes he envisaged in MK.He agreed to do a second theme park in Florida but that was about it. To say that’s what Walt wanted could be stretching it. When he died plans for the “theme park” were barely off the ground. He personally didn’t originally want one; his aim was E.P.C.O.T. but was persuaded a second Disneyland was needed for revenue. So in your view this website is a load of crock then? Interesting, thanks Martin. To say that’s what Walt wanted could be stretching it. When he died plans for the “theme park” were barely off the ground. He personally didn’t originally want one; his aim was E.P.C.O.T. but was persuaded a second Disneyland was needed for revenue.
Yes. It doesn’t actually go into detail. It’s a bunch of bits of stories that have been that all vaguely come from about the late 60s. The one attributed detail is from 1968. Which is the common theme with these stories, this or that supposedly came from Walt, but nobody mentions the dates because they don’t match up. And yes, that means the story about not finishing Walt’s apartment in Cinderella Castle is also not true.So in your view this website is a load of crock then? It goes into quite a lot of detail as to the changes he envisaged in MK.

Just as Walt planned, it came from WED.Interesting, thanks Martin.
So it does then raise the question: when they talk about Mary Poppins replacing Peter Pan, Thunder Mesa and so on, much of which didn’t happen obviously, whose ideas / visions were those?
Was it a case of Walt saying “OK, fine, if we have to have a Castle park then this is my suggestion”?
Or the ideas of other designers?
By April 1968 the Fantasyland attractions we know had been firmed up, although other parts of the park were yet to be designed. A lot of early planning was done by WED in 1967 but it was a game of moving goal posts even into 1970.Interesting, thanks Martin.

In general, what notable attractions were designed for cloning?Only MMRR was developed with the intent of cloning.
Top of my head,In general, what notable attractions were designed for cloning?
