Toyota trying to take my Disney money!

I wasn't sure if I should post this here or not but I thought I may save you a little money, your Disney money. I am having a problem with my Toyota Highlander and if you own one, you more than likely will too. It's with the control panel, a 740.00 part plus labor. Well, it turns out it is a simple "loose nut" that causes stress on the wires so that they break and your heat will not work. This is common on 2001 & up models. I have an 05 so Toyota is not fixing this problem, they just sell you a new part that you really don't need.

I don't know about you but I don't want to spend my Disney money on this. I am having it fixed in the morning for just a few dollars.

Well, sorry that happened, but I'm glad your priorities are in order. Someone wouldn't refer to that spent money as their Disney money, but rather, their rent money, their food money, their daughter's braces money...

My parents tell me that all the time when I complain about my "Disney money" going to something stupid like the tires I had to buy for my car last month.

Perhaps you hit too many curbs and potholes :hammer:

hm...My mom's got a 2003, and we've never had a problem.

If she has the kind with the three knobs, it's the one in the middle that she needs to watch. Every now and then she should pull it off, yes it comes off, and make sure that the "nut" is TIGHT. The problem is when this gets loose it puts a strain on the wires and then they come off. They have to be put back on, but the dealer ship won't tell you this. They will just sell you a new control panel, which will do the same thing at some point in time.

I wish that I had known to watch for this. It's no big deal to fix but I wouldn't have know this if I had not searched for this online. :)

And as I sit and ponder why you would post that here, I say, check to see if there are any screws loose as well. Best to be safe.

Kinda of like our companies 1998 Ford F150.From the beginning up to and after the warranty expired,it occasionally would get a minor electrical gremlin, but when we kept taking it back to the dealer they could never find anything wrong. It finally ended up catching on fire at a customers house in their driveway in 2001 and burnt to a crisp. The fire started under the hood the insurance company said, and claimed it felt it was probably due to poor maintenance on our part, and only paid us $1500.00 for the truck even though we provided records to prove otherwise. 2 1/2 years later Ford finally fesses up and says there was an wiring problem they knew about with the cruise control, which has in a small number of cases caused a fire and or could lead to a fire in those specific trucks going back to 1998. So they were issuing a recall.

I have a 2003 Honda Civic and the line that runs from the gas tank to the opening mechanism broke. Lets just say it cost more than a pretty penny.

It did not affect my Disney money though :)

However, I normally don't have "Disney" money.

For what it's worth, Ford never stands by their warranty. I take every opportunity I can to warn people of their shoddy vehicles and more than anything lack of customer service. How I can relate that to a Disney chat board I have no idea.

I thought all money was Disney money

 That's how I look at it too!

I know this really didn't belong here and they can close it or whatever but I thought if someone is having or has had this problem it may help them by doing a simple repair and not buying a new control panel. it can be avoided all together by just checking the nut behind the center to make sure it stays tight.

You know, a car expense of 1000.00 can really blow some folks out of a trip they have been saving for, and if you can avoid it that would be great, right?

Assuming that this problem will still exist after you have it fixed I would advise you to apply some loctite blue thread locker to the nut. This will prevent it from ever working loose again.

Wouldn't that still be under the three year warranty? Or are you above 36K miles?

Yep, I bought it in 04 and I have almost 50K miles on it. :hammer: But still, this is with the 2001 & up models. It is a flaw that they have not fixed. They will not recall it because it is not a safety issue.
