Toy Story Mania confirmed

You know...even if this doesn't 100% fit with the "movie studio" theme...this ride is something that MGM sorely needs. If you look at the listing of attractions there...this ride could fit under 2 categories that are really lacking.

It either fits in with Fun for Little Ones...but my guess at which one it fits better is Mild but Wild Thrills. and that is something that MGM has very little of. Buzz Lightyear is listed as Fun for Little Ones though. So like I said, it could be either. Both only have on attraction that fits for that category.

Here's the current list.

Big Thrills
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster® Starring Aerosmith
Star Tours - the ultimate Star Wars™ thrill ride
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™

Fun For Little Ones
"Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" Movie Set Adventure

Live Entertainment
Indiana Jones ™ Epic Stunt Spectacular!
Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage!
Voyage of The Little Mermaid
Lights, Motors, Action!™ Extreme Stunt Show

Mild But Wild Thrills
Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour

Other Attractions
ATAS Hall of Fame Plaza
Muppet Vision 3-D
Journey Into Narnia: Creating The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
Sounds Dangerous - Starring Drew Carey
The American Film Institute Showcase
The Great Movie Ride
The Magic of Disney Animation
Walt Disney: One Man's Dream

MGM needs rides (as in MOVING attractions) really bad. Although this probably won't be revolutionary, at least it will give guests something to do in the park.

I think the only thing that would come close to getting the thumbs up from every member on this board is Beastly Kingdomme. You're not going to please everyone, but so many people seem to be of this misguided notion that choppy moving animatronics, and dated attractions can stand the test of time, change is never necessary - and any sort of story deviation from what was once originally on a plot of land is flat out terrifying.

The only new (completed) attractions that has had legitimate complaints from members of these boards has been Stitch's Great Escape and Journey into Imagination.

People complain about the pixarification of the parks - we forget that all this, "Magic" was started by a mouse, and that Disney at the root of everything is character driven. The newest character entities within the parks are this $100 mil pixar movies that seem to resonate with both young and old. I have yet to see well thought out rationale as to why Disney shouldn't be capitalizing on these obviously popular characters. In a large company like Disney this type of synergy/cross marketing should be expected.

Those that complain about clones like Soarin and Lights Motors Action are hypocriphal if they attend the Magic Kingdom. Remember, when it first opened - there was no Pirates, but so many people requested a clone of the popular Disneyland attraction.
I for one am probably the only one who wouldnt be to particularly thrilled about beastly kingdom...Sounds great and all, but I could just hear it now from my friends..."Disney trying to imitate Universal and their "better" rides"....All be it, they dont know the story behind the similarites of beastly kingdom and The Lost Continent located within IOA.

Sounds great! I can't wait to ride it. A mix of Turtle Talk, Buzz, and some 3-D efffects? Sounds like a winner to me. I can't understand why everyone is hating on it.

BTW, I thought Buzz wasn't gonna be in it, but the description says he will be.

that was kind of off subject there but i really do thing disney should be always changing. that was the point of the parks in the first place yes classic rides should stay becouse they where Walts legacy but copying rides just makes people go "if i have been to one park i have been to them all" Disney should be more worryed about getting people to visit all there locations by having diffrent thangs than just taking the safe course of acton by making so many clone rides.

I think this ride has a lot of potential that it isn't being given credit for. It has many aspects that various members have clamored for in the past, including repeatability, interactivity, new technology and a unique twist on the idea of a ride going through 3-D animated/filmed scenes (as Spiderman ar IOA does...and I still read posts across the Disney fan community as to when Disney will develop something like that...here it is!)

Obviously I believe this ride concept was developed for DCA and Paradise Pier. However, a slightly different queue/pre-show area can drastically change the tone of a ride and make it fit anywhere. For instance, I thought Star Tours was incredibly out of place in Tommorowland at Disneyland when I went, having been used to the MGM setting. It was only after I returned home from my recent DL trip did I realize it was in fact that other way around and that it had first been developed for DL and then given a slight alteration at the beginning of the queue to make it fit to the movie studio theme. Having not known that, I always found Star Tours right at home at the Studios. Similar arguments go for Soarin' at Epcot. That was criticized A LOT before it opened for not fitting into either Epcot's or The Land's theme at MGM. It is now one of Epcot's and WDW's favorite rides among guests and fits perfectly into the Land experience, even though it still uses the same CA film. I imagine Toy Story Mania will translate well into the Studios list of rides. Thematically it may fit better at Paradise Pier, but it will work in the Studios as well.

The concept sounds interesting. Any ride at the Studios can only help that park. I don't care for the name, though. It sounds like a placeholder title. Maybe it will fit the ride, in the context of the story.

I for one can't wait to see this. MGM needs new life and this is a good start.

As far as the pixar invation goes, I don't think you can blame the Theme Park guys for that. Pixar is the one making all the movies everyone wants to see.... and the caracters they are falling in love with.

I love the Pixar movies, and welcome their theming in the parks. Walt Disney was a pioneer in animation technologies in his time, and I think he would applaud what Pixar does today.

Over at Laughingplace.com, there is a video and pictures from the press announcment.

The video found here: http://www.laughingplace.com/lp/lotion/video/SS20070126-WDWAnnounce/CLIP2-high.WMV has Tom Fitgerald explaining more about what the attraction is and more details onto what you might expect to see, feel and perhaps even smell. From the 3-D effects to the ability of the ride to get easier or harder as you go on depending on how you are doing in the beginning sounds very cool and high tech. The animatronic Mr. Potato Head with the ability to take his ear on and off and move his eyes around in front of guests while interacting with them sounds awesome. I really think this will be a lot of fun. The midway game idea fits perfectly in at DCA. Although perhaps not quite as well placed at MGM as its DCA counterpart, the movie tie-in can make it easily fit into MGM and it sounds like a much needed boost of family fun for everyone into that park.

Ugh....is anyone else as sick of all the Pixar stuff as me?

Again, what is wrong with Disney using these movies for attractions? The movies are hits, why not use them? I could maybe understand some anger if they were using the exact same character for everything, but they are not. Nemo has two attractions, Monsters has one, Toy Story will now have one, but that's not an overload by anymeans. You saying you don't like Pixar attractions is like saying you don't want "Classic Disney" based attractions. There for we can't use Mickey, Donald, Chip, Dale, Goofy, Peter Pan and so on.

I just don't understand why someone wouldn't want Disney to update their parks with attractions from movies that sell and people love.

WOW, that Mr Potato Head Animatronic sounds......AMAZING!!!!!
This attraction really sounds like alot of fun. Just out of interest, does anyone know if there will be many 3D props included in the ride aswell? Or is it just screen after screen after screen?

while I have a problem with Monsters, Inc. in Tomorrowland, Toy Story at MGM surely isn't a problem...that's where they belong. This ride definitely has the potential to be a lot of fun. MGM could use a good Fantasyland-style dark ride with (hopefully) high capacity...and no Fastpass?

But how does an old fashioned midway game ride fit in a movie studio? I'll be interested to see how they get this to work thematically at MGM.

For DCA, Toy Story Mania! is going to be a perfect fit.

It's based off a movie. That is the key aspect here. If you use your logic, then many attractions at MGM, which are based off movies, don't fit as well.

Star Tours: movie, no studio theme (IE: studio production/education)
VOLM: movie, no studio theme
Rock'n Roller Coaster: Music Band, no movie studio theme
Tower of Terror; TV show; no studio theme
Just to name a few........
