Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

If something is unsuccessful in meeting its planned purpose, to me, it’s a failure. Take Stitch’s Great Escape, for example. Gorgeous animatronic. Overall attraction fails to meet its purpose.

If TSL’s purpose is to add something kid-friendly that will entertain families (including those waiting to enter Galaxy’s Edge), and all they add are two short rides that must either be Fastpassed or require said families wait in sweltering heat, I think it fails to meet its purpose. I could make a similar argument for New Fantasyland, as pretty as it is from some views. But at least they built appropriate queues there and included shops and dining, even if some locations are too small.

You forget Toy Story Mania which is also part of Toy Story Land. Therefore, with 3 rides, it does have some things to keep families entertained for 2-3 hours (also regarding the wait times for the attractions).

But you have a point about the heat and the outdoor queues.
I was supposing most families had already ridden TSM in the last 10 years. This would’ve been a wonderful opportunity to roll out new games to make a “new” ride for very little money. Maybe when Toy Story 4 comes out next summer and they need something to market for summer?

Yes but if it's not a carnival ride like the ones found in the other Toy Story Lands in DLP, HKDL and SDL I can't think of a good ride with low budget. And I believe (but I might be mistaken) that Toy Story 4 was originally scheduled to be released this year so Disney could very easily have grabbed this opportunity to market TSL and Toy Story 4.

YES.

But does that mean what is there is a 'failure'?
I'll admit a failure in scope or a failure in cost effectiveness.

But I won't let that enrage me into calling what's there a 'failure.'
It's probably a popularity mistake for me to start an overly nuanced discussion of the difference between "not meeting expectations" vs "having failed" vs the identity crisis of "being a failure", but I do think there's a difference and the easy way in which we each do or don't appreciate the nuance between these leads to our misunderstanding.

I'd expect 90% of the people on this board to think that Toy Story Land as it will be (in 10 days, woohoo!) does not meet their high expectations. And I think they have every right to as these are the people who uphold the aspirational standards of Disney Parks and Resorts nowadays. And TWDC probably doesn't know what a gift it has in these people!

But maybe it's being a parent but I hesitate to say that something has failed before it has even started. And I'm even more reluctant to call something an outright failure. Call me a softie, I guess!

Ironically, I also think it's less important to get it right from the beginning and more important to admit failure and to correct one's mistakes. So I fully expect (or at least hope) that if complaints of heatstroke come from the standby line in Slinky Dog Dash, that they'll admit their error and will build cover and sell cool, refreshing beverages.

the 'real' pizza planet would have been fun
I've wanted to visit the "real" Pizza Planet since my disappointment when first visiting the so-pale-as-to-be-transparent imitation!

Has anyone visited the new one in Disneyland Tomorrowland? What did you think?
