Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

1) The Studio Tram Tour didn't actually last more than 25 minutes. And it covered a much bigger area than TSL (that now will be part of SW:GE).

2) It consisted of a bad preshow and the actual ride had cheap objects placed here and there to give the impression that you are in a "studio". The only nice scene was the Catastrophy Canyon and it didn't last more than 3 minutes.

So to sum up. You now get a new land in an area that was previously occupied by a dull ride that had nothing more cheap props and sets and one short "real scene" and it didn't appeal to children (like pretty much almost everything in HS back then). TSL is a good replacement for this space and most people would prefer to ride the Slinky Dog Dash thab the Studio Tour.

About the other lands they do may need updates but this doesn't make them any less appealing.
I mentioned it needed updates. Obviously no one wanted a Pearl Harbor preshow. But a new preshow and updated visuals (even on the truncated 25-minute version you mention) would have likely been quite successful.

My point moreover is that the bulk of the DHS "expansion" is really just repurposing unpopular (or relatively unpopular, mostly due to years of neglect) lengthy attractions with what I imagine will be popular, short attractions. There is no actual added capacity and when we compare the park in 2020 to the park in 2000, the footprint will be largely the same but you will be spending more time waiting in the sun and less time on actual rides/attractions. What they are building will be compelling enough, but miserable in the summer unless you pay for the "premium" packages, in which case you'll be done with the rides before noon.

They really need to update the shows as has been on-again, off-again for awhile now. Just do it!

Any updates on the considered/rumored attractions i.e. Indy that could help with capacity and overall park appeal?

Since you are a newer member (welcome, by the way!), the one thing you will learn is what other members appreciate in an attraction/land/park.

I honestly think the user didn't understand marni1971's one word "Exactly" answer (frankly, I didn't understand it either). I don't think his "I don't get you" was meant in the larger sense of not understanding where someone is coming from.

Given the capacity of these new attractions, and the size of the crowds that will be coming. DHS will not only be a mess, but it will be woefully under built. How can the same company that spent a billion dollars redoing DCA for being too cheap the first time, or who spent a year plussing Animal Kingdom in preparation for Avatar be so short sighted with the studios? Toy storyland should have had a few more flat rides for its cost, shows across the park should have been refreshed, and Mickey should have been a new build. These short sighted choices are going to make an already undercapcity park even more shabby, crowded and unpleasant. I literally only go to DHS to ride Star Tours and watch Muppets, heck I park at Epcot, go over mid day, do the two attractions, walk back and get ice cream at the creamery. I don't see ToyStory changing that, however Star Wars I will be waiting how many ever hours to get on those rides. (at least they are both E tickets)

I gotta think they'll eventually let guests in for small batches of softs. A week+ of CM only? They'll be staffed up and needing bodies to cycle.. I gotta think people will be let in before they open.

Has Disney ever built a new land with more than two attractions to start ( besides at the opening of a new park )? In my opinion, this is the best of the Toy Story Lands in the world as far as ride quality goes. You have a new area with 3 attractions all of which are of good quality for the purpose they are meant to serve. We talk all the time about the parks being for families, and everyone should be able to ride as a family because that was perceived to be Walt’s vision. This area does that, allowing just about everyone in the family to ride all of its attractions and be fun for all ages. People keep suggesting that there could be MORE but I think they are forgetting it has 3 rides! You get two new rides, one completely new and one new to Florida as well as Toy Story Mania which maybe not an E-Ticket but still a fun ride. They have already stated you would be able to meet Buzz, Woody and Jessie in the area so that covers your meet and greet. In regards to food, you do have quick service and your going to have the best themed sit down restaurants right next door in Star Wars Land. Hollywood Studios already has a large collection of unique sit downs with the Brown Derby, Mama Melrose, Sci-Fi and 50’s Prime Time, do we really need another one in such a small park just to say we added one to Toy Story Land?

I’m not even sure why I get myself into these discussions. Being on the boards for more than a decade should have taught me that in the coming months you will all start visiting it for yourself and come back with “It’s not as bad as I expected and slinky was fun!!”. Remember Pandora? It has one E-Ticket, a small crummy boat ride and the area itself is small yet no one cares anymore because the E-Ticket is amazing so all is forgiven. Soon this will be in the past and we will all be discussing the next problems WDI made that could only be fixed if they just hired all of us experts to tell them what they should do.

I think it's odd how with everything that is happening surrounding Toy Story's presence in the parks, that they still haven't updated the head molds for the walk-around characters. I mean they've been using the same head sculpt for Buzz and Woody since the debut, and there is no way that those are prints from the original files. I think it's time for an update there.

Head molds. Again, no detail goes unnoticed.

This essentially summarizes the land pretty well. It has rides and that's it. It's everything we argue about when we talk about the Disney Difference and being able to enjoy the park and immersion and hidden features. TSL will essentially have none. You go in, you ride the rides, and you leave. And that's the disappointing part.

I don't mind the decor and "immersion"- it looks fine to me for what it is- even the exposed coaster. But if Disney felt that way, and they were proud of their work- why are they wanting you to ride the rides and leave the land as soon as you do? Why aren't they wanting you to slow down and take it all in? A store would've helped. A QS restaurant certainly would've allowed for it. A M&G not as much.

But look at every other successful land. Diagon Alley likely being the gold standard. One ride, that's it. But you could spend hours there. Star Wars will likely be similar. Why they wanted you in and out of this land in 30 minutes, if it truly is a filler for before SW:GE, is beyond me.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. "WDW needs more rides!", we hear, especially about Epcot. TSL has three rides--two new, one incorporated into it. But it's "disappointing" because you get in and get out riding rides. Sigh. . .

Yes, it still has the issues we all talked about at the time.

People care still but they have moved on to other things to complain about. The waits for pandora boat ride is crazy long for a ride that is that short.... The area is packed and you can barely walk around to explore anything because it is so busy. This is because it is an incredible land the detail is amazing but because it is is so good in a park that still needs more it is busting at its seams. They needed a min of 1 more attraction in this land a true people eater to help spread out the crowds.

Then the park needs 2 more people eaters that are high quality rides.... When the boat ride is 90 min and Everest is 30 you know you have issues in the park!
