Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

Lately, with the talk of some plans being reimagined, I have just been kind of thinking about TSL as a whole. And just thinking about the concept and what they are doing with it made me kind of want to share my soap box-ey thoughts on the problem with it.

Don't get me wrong, I am very much looking forward to TSL, something just felt off about it. Like they could and should be doing more. Initially this didn't bother me, but with the cuts it kind of became more clear.

What the movies did so well was that they completely captured the audiences imaginations. It turned simple kids toys into an incredible adventure. When you look at any of the three Toy Story Lands, they don't do that- they are just giant toys to play with.

Think back to the opening scene from Toy Story 3, when the toys are in that Wild West adventure setting with the evil Hamm, the train track explosion, etc. I feel like that's what a good toy story land should be like. You aren't just playing with the plastic toys and toy sets, but you are jumping into the world of imagination they play in. For example, the Woody's roundup area that was a part of the original art- that should be themed just as intricately as Fronteirland, with the idea not being that you are in some Woody play set, but rather completely entering the world that Andy viewed the toys in. Because that's not what the lands are like, some fans just have a feeling of disappointment that this is how the franchise is celebrated.

I don't know if I got my point across very clearly, but that's just my thoughts on the land if it made any sense :p

Well said IDInstitute. I agree completely.

It's a reason I was bummed about Woody's area being cut. Any bit of some type of immersion was being taken away. I also think we're a ride or two short.

Why can't WDW just ever get an expansion, or something that isn't budget cut to death leaving us with the absolute bare minimum? Every other resort gets good news (mostly, sorry DLR but even then they're getting actual B&TB/Frozen E-tickets, along with Marvel and possibly the Mickey ride, and all probably open before WDW's).

I've heard around these forums but I'm having a hard time believing it, is there actually a chance that they are changing plans for this land to make it better?

DLR is not getting B&tB. Tokyo only.

Sadly.

If true that they're changing the plans I hope they get rid of the Andy's backyard theme. I also hope they cut back on the acres. 11 acres for a kiddie land in a park that's short on space and needs more attractions badly is overkill. They should split the space with another Pixar property for a few more B and C rides.

The size problem is (in my eyes at least), a good amount of the land seems to be taken up by the coaster. As fun as it seems, the land and budget for it could be used much more efficiently. They could put some sort of dark ride (I think Woody's roundup would be a fun theme). And then even throw in a fourth attraction (probably cheaper and with a smaller footprint albeit) there, such as either RC Racer or Parachute Drop from the other lands. And that would satisfy the thrill aspect too.

I like the coaster but they definitely should have made better use of the available space . Since they have a Slinky Coaster they could theme RC Racer to a Frog Hopper and the Army Men to swings .

Does anyone think it's possible we might end up seeing Toy Story Land open in phases? The reason I ask is because, obviously they want to do the GMR redo thing, and probably soon, but it's just hard to justify closing it before TSL opens because there will be so little attraction capacity. So could we maybe end up seeing them work to get just coaster open earlier, and then work on the alien ride/food/merch areas in the far end of the land later in a "phase 2" of TSL? I know it's probably really unlikely, but just throwing out a theory
