Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

My concern at this point is that Slinky will be over far too quickly. Even if the launches are modest, it doesn't look like a loot of track for two launches and the ride will be over before you know it. At least the 7DMT has the show scene in the middle to take in.
We'll see. @MansionButler84 may know a bit more on length. I'm in a wait and see mode right now on the coaster, just sucks the kinetics of the area were taken out in the redesign (along with theming).

I have to say that I typically have enjoyed some of the new experiences at WDW, but this one is really not a change one can defend. I thought that the original concept art presented at D23 looked great, coupled with the comments of how the theming approach was meant to mirror what went into creating Cars Land. Well, removing buildings, the below ground level trenches and many themed elements around the coaster doesn't live up to how it was originally sold to us.

I will still go on the roller coaster as I will probably enjoy the double launch feature, but it is a shame that they have done what they did. Typically, WDW has lived on theming the past few years and the rides have suffered. In this case, I still think that the ride itself will be fun as a family coaster, but to cheap out on the theming degrades the experience.
i will go to TSL every time im at DHS, it ll be the quickest way to SWL;)

If you recall the original Cars Land concept art:

(Click for full-size)
Obviously it's hard to un-see the final product, but is the Cars Land concept art a lot more impressive than this:

(Yes, I know this is the old concept art, but for comparison's sake)
Whatever you think, there's no doubt that the final product of Cars Land IRL is much better than the concept art.
As others have said, I'm going to withhold judgement until I see it coming together/finished.

Yes, and I'm just looking at the art.

For some reason the one you posted stayed the same size even after I clicked it.

Yeah, I don't know what happened. I created a hyperlink to the original image, which had a very large resolution, but now it's very scaled down.

I'm not really saying that Cars Land is comparable to TSL at all, just that the Cars Land final product leaves you (or at least me) breathless, whereas the concept art looks good, but not :jawdrop: IMO. That's really the only string I'm holding on to for TSL.

I'd be shocked if it hit 2 minutes. Not that coasters are typically very long. Can't all be Big Thunder or The Beast.
I thinking it will be around 1.5 minutes since it has two launches. Although, I am thinking the launch will be around 20-25mph. There is just not enough track for speeds much higher than this.

Also, the BEAST is my favorite woodie! Always a wild ride!

Most kids rides are shorter.
That's fine.

Strangely enough, I think the aesthetic success of Toy Story Land will hinge significantly on what Slinky Dog Coaster's supports will look like. The coaster will likely be the most visually prominent thing in the land, so it will either cause guests to say "oh, Andy made a roller coaster using his toys" or "oh, an unthemed roller coaster like at Six Flags." I hope the coaster's supports are creative... and clearly made of toys.

(Similarly, I'm curious to see how the green alien ride will fit the land's story. Why are the green aliens in Andy's backyard? Why on earth is the claw there, for that matter? And what are they doing / what are we riding in that will avoid being a thematic break from the "Andy's backyard" story? In general, flat rides are always difficult to make immersive, though I think they did a reasonably good job in Cars Land, so...)

They don't stop being kids after 40" tall. There has to be something for everybody, not everything needs to be for everyone.

True true. Definitely agree about the second sentence.

But a height restricted ride brings expectations: speed, time, intensity
And when the rides are restricted this is usually done by height, not facors like age, maturity, mental faculty

Good point. Dominating feature.

I wonder how Disney will stop the area, the vibe and all, from being more carnival than play room? Carnivals are a dime a dozen.

Folks can't have it both ways. You can't write off TSL as being unimpressive but fine because it's a "kiddie-land" but also suggest it is ok that it has a height requirement locking out the target crowd. This is the same issue Stitch's Great Escape suffers from--the concept is quite juvenile, intended for a crowd that cannot ride due to ride mechanism.

Personally, I don't think this was intended to be a kiddie land as some have suggested. I think they really thought it would pass as our Carsland. Hell, they actually had the audacity to compare it to Carsland. This is a slight downgrade from Radiator Springs Racers, to be sure. Especially now that the rock work was cut.

They have already said that the alien ride is supposed to be a Pizza Planet play set.
