Adding in [poorly made] custom scenery is more than the basics.

because if they wanted to show what the coaster experience would be like they would add in all the scenery? its almost as if you wanted them to give you the whole ride and its "theming" again you expect too much, take it for what it is.

Initially, I fought hard to defend Toy Story Land...

...back when the concept art looked like this.

I can't defend this latest one. It's ugly. The only thing I like about this rendering is the tunnel that leads to Star Wars Land.

With that said, it is just concept art and perhaps Disney will add more to enhance this. I don't know. At this point, I will just try to withhold judgement until everything is completed.

You just keep making stuff up and/or need to work on your reading comprehension.

I have to say that I typically have enjoyed some of the new experiences at WDW, but this one is really not a change one can defend. I thought that the original concept art presented at D23 looked great, coupled with the comments of how the theming approach was meant to mirror what went into creating Cars Land. Well, removing buildings, the below ground level trenches and many themed elements around the coaster doesn't live up to how it was originally sold to us.

I will still go on the roller coaster as I will probably enjoy the double launch feature, but it is a shame that they have done what they did. Typically, WDW has lived on theming the past few years and the rides have suffered. In this case, I still think that the ride itself will be fun as a family coaster, but to cheap out on the theming degrades the experience.

Even the original concept art doesn't live up to Cars Land. They've been misleading from the start. I really had to laugh when that woman on stage made the comparison as if we're idiots.

Nope, not even close.

Personally, I don't think Toy Story actually lends itself to a theme park all that well. Unfortunately, Disney has been hell-bent on squeezing it into the parks as much as humanly possible, without one actual great attraction yet. TSMM is fun and competitive, but it's no E-ticket.

One idea someone I know tosses around is an "escape Sid's room dark ride" and I just sit there thinking, "why?"

Buzz is fun but isn't great either. The new one in Shanghai actually looks like a downgrade. Why must it be in every Tomorrowland?

The problem with doing an "Escape from Sid's" rode is they are still making new Toy Story movies. If you make a ride set in Sid's room, you're specifically setting the land within the original film period. Disney seems to want to keep these TSL's "timeless" even though they suck.

As for Buzz... yeah. It seems to be lack of direction for Tomorrowland more than anything so Buzz is always the fallback. WDW's is the worst i've personally been on/seen (haven't seen SDL's). At least with Disneyland you have the freedom to pick up the gun and shoot unlike the MK ride. MK's ride is also incredibly dirty. Just nasty in some areas.

I feel like it actually could be done well, too. Just not with guns as that requires a bunch of plywood cut-outs. A Star-Command traditional dark ride could be effective and would, thankfully, not be a book report.

They keep redoing it because it's popular (in spite of itself).

You know what's funny?

I actually prefer MK's version over DL's. It makes it a bit more challenging when the guns are mounted and forces you to rotate the vehicle more.

I guess for some. Personally, I rarely find WDW's challenging. Maybe that's because I know where there's a few 100,000 point targets so I max out quick. In Disneyland, i've never topped 150,000 in points. Of course i'm not as familiar with which targets are best, so I find that ride much more challenging.

Reading last few pages I see many Slinky Dog vs 7DMT comparisons (well, not just last few pages, it comes and goes), too many to quote. But honestly I do not think they will be in the same category. For all its shortcomings 7DMT is still a quality attraction. Yes, it is too short and yes, it could be better. But what is there is actually good and thoroughly enjoyable. All we know about Slinky Dog so far is not making me optimistic in a slightest way. I would love to be wrong but color me a skeptic. And the Alien ride is no better either.

All in all, this definitely ranks dead last in the list of upcoming projects, well below Avatar and SWE. Even well below GotG at Energy.

I think the thrill level will be higher for Slinky, but theming obviously lacking. I think it will be just below 7DMT, but due to thrill factor, there will definitely be some who love 7D that may be hesitant to ride Slinky still, simply because of the launches.

It might not in terms of sheer scale and scope - not to mention the E-Ticket ride that it boasts - but I still enjoyed the sentiment that they were taking that approach to designing it. There was so much potential for kinetics and inter-activity in the original concept art that I really loved it - the walkway over and under the coaster; the game board on top of the building most would not see unless riding the coaster, the set of buildings themed to a Woody play set, and the trenches that the coaster would dive into. All of these types of things would have made a significant difference, at least to me.

My concern at this point is that Slinky will be over far too quickly. Even if the launches are modest, it doesn't look like a lot of track for two launches and the ride will be over before you know it. At least the 7DMT has the show scene in the middle to take in.
