Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

My family and I are shooting for Christmas 2017 as our next trip (staying away from DHS while it's half of a half-day park). What are the chances TSL is opened by then? It'll be our first time down there for Christmas, so that would just be the icing on top.

I wish it it could be done in time for your trip. However, if they rush this then it will turn out cheap and no better than other Toy Story additions at other parks.

Definitely not Star Wars Land, but TSL is a likely possibility to open by late 2017.

I think you're probably right that TSL won't be open by late 2017, but I really don't understand why. The way things are going right now, half of the park will be closed for about two years before TSL (Not even Star Wars Land) opens. DHS will be a shell of it's former self (Pathetic anyway) for two whole years. Aren't they worried about an attendance decrease there? They've already lost my family for a couple years before it's respectable again to pay $100 for a day here.

I think opening TSL by late 2017 (say opening in Nov 2017 before the Thanksgiving/Christmas/NY rush) should be the goal and could certainly happen. The Alien ride might be being built as we speak off site. Same goes with the parts for the roller coaster. They are not complex additions that needs to be built on site, but can be more modular and installed. The main thing for the land in DHS is the land clearing/prep. Even if it take 6-12 months for land clearing, why wouldn't they be able to install the attractions and theming elements in a year?

At the earliest TSL would be Summer 2018. That's 2 and a half years which seems to be about the average time it takes them to build new lands like fantasyland and avatar. And I don't buy that they are fast tracking any of this to speed up the process when it's going to take them almost a year to convert pizza planet into another pizza restaurant with a new theme.

Your math don't check out son ... Early 2017 to Summer 2018 would be 1.5 years I consider that a minor miracle for Disney.

Restaurants are different, they still have to remove everything from the restaurants replace and fix stuff in the back of house and get new equipment installed and new theme parts. All takes time.

Sure if you want to put conditions on it you can make it fit your argument but DJ was talking about 2.5 years from now. Construction and demolition is beginning any day now. Edit: Even if ground is broken in April and It opens in September of 2018 that is still 2.5 years if we were talking about a construction timetable. Summer ends Sept 21st.

For Toy Story Land? Nope they have to build and have open the new costuming center and moving other backstage facilities before any real demolition will happen - which should be late 2016. SoA is not where TSL is being built.

My point was simply that DJ's math was correct. You can make your own timetable fit whatever you want. Not interested in starting an argument.

Its not when construction won't begin until early 2017 on TSL, otherwise we can go back to D23 and say from August 2015 to June 2018 its more like 3 years. Would be incorrect still but we can use any weird timetable.

There is nothing weird about the timetable. Simple math: Today to Summer (June 21st to September 21st) of 2018 IS about 2.5 years. A little more infact. You can adjust it any way you like. Enjoy. Stuff is already happening backstage.

The costuming centre has not been relocated elsewhere on property, can't do any demo in that area until that gets moved. Offices being cleared is not the sign that they are going to demo and prepare to lay foundations - this year.

Unless your on about SoA/LMA/CC all of which will be bulldozed into the ground and none of that land is for TSL....
