Tower of Terror to get updates this summer

I heard from a "reliable" source (a freind's cousin who is a bus driver), that the touch screens are in fact coming.

After being loaded into the drop shaft, your car will race to the top then pause. You will see a brief Stich video and the camera will take your picture. After that you will proceed into the drop sequence.

I can't wait!!!!!!

Cliff Notes:

-Someone said new drop sequence cancelled.
-My Uncle confirmed 19 new drop sequences and touch screens.
-My Aunt confirmed Kuka-arm capabilities being added. (Summer only.)

Sorry but I'm joining this convo a bit late lol. What are the touch screens going to be for? What are "Kuka-arm" capabilities?

New FX for the TOT - Scoop

OK, I have it on good authority from my uncle's cousin's sister's chiropractor's lawyer's bother-in-law who drive buses at WDW that these are the changes coming to the TOT this summer.

The first visual effect is when the ride vehicle enters the shaft, and you see a shimmering figure in front of you. It gradually resolves to the man in a dark suit with a briefcase. This is Tom, the Tower of Terror Attorney. He reads a disclaimer about the ride, talks about the limitation of liability, and then you use your new touchscreen to sign your name, releasing WDW from all liability. Once all screens have been signed, the ghostly apparition of Tom thanks you for your time, and hands you the bill.

The bill is the scariest part.

The ride then begins to descend at a very slow, safe speed, like an old hotel elevator, until it reaches the bottom in about 2 minutes. A future version of the ride may have the screen showing Tom the Attorney become portable, so that it follows your car down the shaft, talking about his family, his new car, his next vacation at Adventures by Disney, and other assorted small talk. And as the ride vehicle reaches the end, and is about to rotate around to the exit, Tom hands you another bill for the time he just spent making small talk, and this time, it's in 3D!

Apologies to all the legal professionals out there.

Curious if there is any REAL news about the ToT effects that were supposedly being added for the summer. Anyone heard anything?

As for compensation for 10 minutes of delay....I don't think so. MAYBE a quick escort to the boiler room to ride again, but beyond that, you weren't harmed.

Had you been stuck for an hour or more, sure, maybe an Ultimate Fast Pass or free Turkey Leg or something to say "sorry". But 10 minutes?

It's about being inconvenienced, not safety. And considering how Disney generally compensates for inconveniences, I'm surprised they didn't receive anything. I had to be evacuated off of Test Track one time after about 10-15 minutes and was given a FP for use at that attraction (it was valid for that day and the next). I hadn't even boarded Space Mountain when they evacuated the building, and everyone was given a generic FP. Perhaps the offer to re-ride was compensation enough in Disney's eyes, but I would think they'd let the guest choose a different attraction if they wanted.

Was it after park close though? If so, the only option would be to allow the riders the option to ride it again since most of the park is closed.

This was just posted over at The Daily Disney. It provides a lot of details on what will be coming to ToT for summer nightastic. Some we've known, some new.

The Theme Park Rangers will be offering up snippets from the Summer Nightastic media preview in the coming days. The big element in the Disney World summer programming, of course, is the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, but I’m particularly interested in the enhancements to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Let’s restate now that all these moves are considered temporary, running from about June 6 to Aug. 14.

As far as Tower of Terror goes, there will bemodifications inside and out, including an eerie glow upon approach.

The changes were a balancing act for Jason Roberts, show producer. They wanted to maintain the Tower storyline but also overlay it with something special.

“It has a great story already,” Roberts says. “We wanted to make it noticeably different.”

However, he was maddeningly mysterious still when it came to particulars.

“When you’re in the queue, before you ever get on the elevators, whether you’re outside or inside – some of them are more subtle than others – but we’ve throw in a few little things that weren’t there before,” Roberts says.

Count on special effects and some new voices at Tower, I’m told.

Inside the elevator, the changes will be obvious, Roberts says.

“You won’t have any trouble noticing them,” he says.

A special drop was developed for Summer Nightastic, and it will be the one sequence used during the event, day or night.

“Right now we have four random drops,” he says. “We kind of felt like if we just added something to that, not everyone is going to experience the new part.”

And there was a tiny bit more printed in the latest Mickey Monitor:

As part of Summer Nightastic!, Walt Disney Imagineers came up with even more unexpected thrills in the Hollywood Tower Hotel! If you listen closely, you can hear the distant rumble of thunder, not to mention the giggles from the disembodied voice of a child. New lighting and sound effects will add to the new experience, bringing Guests into the eerie halls of the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

Throughout the summer, you’ll find the eerie blue lights and lightning crashing around The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. It’s your chance to take your summer fun to a whole new dimension!

I was there sunday and rode Tower in the early afternoon. The mist effect in the line was on (not sure how new this is but i have never seen it on) and in the boiler room 1/2 of the room had added a randomly flashing white lights in the ceiling, similar to the effect near the elevator motors. But we went rode the other side and the ride was same. Could they have possibly added the sequence to one side before the other, to make sure it works etc.?

Let's hope that this bit of news is a good sign that we may finally get the Country Bear Xmas Show back this year.

After all, if they can get away with adding new temporary overlays/elements to the Tower of Terror just for the summer season (despite the "once-in-a-lifetime" visitors), they can most certainly change over the CBJ for the holidays.
