Rumor Tower of Terror to gain new theme?

I didn't say it needs to happen, I meant that it gives them an excuse to shut the ride down for refurbishment and true enhancements.

A better excuse would be that this major E-ticket crowd-drawing ride hasn’t gone down for a refurbishment in its entirety in over 20 years, so of course a refurb is necessary. A much better option imo than stripping a key element of the ride’s personality for a few nice touch-ups here and there.

Yeah, but if they haven't done a proper refurbishment in 23 years, they aren't about to do one now.

I think the main reason for this is the way it is designed... They can effectively close half the ride and do a refurbishment without taking the entire ride offline... Not possible on many other rides.

Exactly, with the exception of the lobby, boiler room and unload, the entire ride can be refurbished out of view of park guests. One of the strokes of genius with the ride design. It's also the same reason you rarely, if ever, see Tower completely closed due to a downtime, unlike literally every other ride. When one side goes down, they can run the other. Only in rare circumstances have both sides gone down simultaneously. When the various effects for the different iterations (i.e. Twice the Fright, Tower 4, etc) went online, the drop shaft effects were often added when they'd take one side down for a few days. They've also had to do serious work on the drop shaft motors which necessitated one side or the other being down for an extended period.

While this is true, they still have never closed a side for more than maybe a week or so, and up until 2015 I believe they had never closed one side for more than a day.

Its surprising its lasted this long without mayor failures..

Again, this was reiterated earlier in the thread, they have done major refurbishments, even replacing one of the motors when needed. Most of this is done out of sight of day guests because the ride system is designed so that if one side is being refurbished, the other side is still functioning. It's literally two completely separate rides house in one structure. When one is down for rehab, the other is still working. What they have not done is a full closure of the building to refurbish the common guest areas that the two ride systems share (lobby, boiler room, etc). However, much of this work can happen overnight. What they need to do is green light some budget to refurb the effects and "plus" the fifth dimension. They wouldn't even need to take the whole ride down for that, it could be done one shaft at a time.

It's true that the sides do occasionally close for a few days for required maintenance, repairs, replacements, and inspections. What they have never done is closed either of them for an extensive refurbishment like say, Big Thunder. You can argue that it doesn't need it, but the poor state of the ride's show quality says otherwise.

That’s what bothers me a lot. Good show, or good enough show? Mr. Bluebird didn’t work for how many years, off and on?

The show needs it and the Fifth Dimension needs something, it's hopelessly dated.

The only thing I noticed when I rode it a few weeks ago, there were a couple of awkward silence moments. And I don't mean the subtle one right before you drop.
