Tower of Terror "new stories and effects" coming?

Seeing TZ return to relevancy via CBS All Access gave me renewed hope that it won’t be IP’d.

The TZ remake was incredibly disappointing to me. I LOVE the old classic twilight zone episodes, and while everyone of them isn't a masterpiece, the new remake did not do it justice.

I posted this same story a few months ago in the Epcot Guardians thread. It seemed relevant here given the comment above:

A coworker of mine recently reached out as they were going to Disneyland for the first time. A couple in their 40s with their one tween daughter. My coworker is a pop culture geek but also a well-grounded C-suite exec at a multi-billion dollar company. None of them had ever been to Disneyland. I gave them an extensive multi-day touring plan. Off they went.

Upon their return we had lunch and he told me that GotG: Mission Breakout their favorite ride...by far. I inquired about some of the Disneyland classics...Pirates, Mansion, Indy, etc...and his response had me think about the parks in a different way (relevant to this conversation). He said that since none of them had never been, the nostalgia/Americana aspect of Disneyland held very little interest to them. They told me they actually spent more time in DCA than DL over the course of 4 days. Relevance to them was Guardians, Toy Story Mania, Soarin’, etc.

It’s easy to forget how so many of the “classic” rides rely on our own nostalgia and to someone 100% new to the experience, they may not be as special.
Purely anecdotal evidence.

Mission Breakout was a worthwhile update to DCA's tower. It's a lot of fun, but not as good as DHS. I'd hear arguments that it's not as good as Tokyo either. It is definitely better than DCA's was.
My mother went on it for the first time last trip. The new theme of the ride definitely played a role in convincing her to go. (Guardians=fun, Twilight Zone=spooky)

Would they have enjoyed the Hollywood Tower Hotel as much? We’ll never know.

I suppose that if they visit WDW then they can report back to us.

Haven't been to DL/DCA since Mission Breakout, but their TOT always felt like a knockoff to me (probably like WDW's POTC against theirs). They might honestly have not liked it as much

If everything is working then WDW's Tower is the best, unfortunately that hasnt been the case in a long, long time. I did really enjoy DisneySea's version, especially the pre-show.

Was very bummed when they replaced ToT at CA, as I think even the scaled down versions at CA and Paris are fantastic rides. I scoffed at the shoe-horning of IP and the ugly overlay of that beautiful tower.

I must eat a ton of crow after getting back from DL a couple of weeks ago. We absolutely loved Mission Breakout. I was pretty stunned at the quality of the pre-show and of the ride itself. The random music and show scenes were great and we ended up riding it 10 times over 2 days! Still didnt get the Elvis song, but saw all the rest. I honestly cant remember the last time I had so much fun on a ride.

I hate the trend of closing a replacing rides instead of adding new ones, but I have to say that Mission Breakout was a win all around. The building itself is still a bit of an eye sour and doesnt fit, but hopefully the new marvel area they are building next to it will help rectify that problem.

GotG:MB is excellent - for that particular tower's infrastructure. It works because of the non-stop action. DCA's ToT never held me the way DHS's does (primarily the lack of a 5th dimension and the lack of additional build-up). Now, that having been said, GotG:MB would be less effective in DHS because of the 5th dimension, as it's still a slow break in the action.

It’s also worth noting that guest responses to attractions are influenced by their preconceived notions. I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but it’s worth adding here: when I show first-time visitors around Disneyland, I describe it as a massive art installation designed to transport you to other times and places, and emphasize taking it slowly to absorb it all... and invariably people’s favorite attractions are Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, etc.

Incidentally, I think the biggest downfall of GotG:MB is the view from Grizzly Peak Airfield. Seeing that monstrosity from a 1960s-era national park certainly breaks the immersion of the latter’s beautiful (and almost brand-new!) theming. I hope they put some fake trees on top of the Animation building to block the view, or something like that...

We rode MB at dca for the first time Tuesday. Very pleasantly surprised. The redo made a fun ride more enjoyable. Giving it a "storyline " and continual soundtrack throughout the experience made it much more enjoyable than its predecessor.

Does ToT not have a "storyline" and continual soundtrack throughout the experience?

Or does an original arrangement not count when there's 80s pop rock on the table?
