Too much alcohol and drinking at WDW parks

I believe in Walt's dream of having a family friendly park and enviornment for children and adults alike to have fun and relive their feelings fo childhood

I do not believe in serving and over-serving alochol at the World.

We just came back from 4 days at the parks and I have noticed more and more drinking spots and drunks stumbling around. At the firworks at Epcot, the lights are dimmed way down and i kept seeing drunken folks tripping over wheelchairs and strollers, spilling drinks all over other people's kids and wheelchair bound guests. I stopped counting at 20. It went on all night.

At Disney Studios I was most offended at the new alcohol station set up outside the meet and greet with the characters from Monsters Inc. Right outside to the right there is a new booth serving hard liquor mixed drinks. At around 1045 I saw a mother and father walking around drinking beer, they also bought one for their underage son to carry around and drink, the only one not drinking was his girlfriend. I even had a silent conversation with her while we were walking around behind her. She had the worst expression on her face, I gave her the nod that it was going to be okay. Hopefully she will break up with not only him but his family's bad habits after vacation.

THIS IS NOT WHAT WALT WANTED. ANYONE WHO KNOWS AND HAS FOLLOWED WALT'S DREAMS AND LIFE KNOWS THAT THIS IS NOT WHAT HE WANTED THE PARKS TO TURN INTO.

Oops, we shouldn't tell you about Minnie's Keg-Stand Challenge should we?

I'm trying to figure out where all the stands are *coming* that serving the devil's liquid. Maybe I'm a drunkard and just ignore them as a place to buy things, but I don't see them en mass like you do, unless it's at the Food & Wine festival (you can't go 20 feet without one of those booths).

As for individuals buying for kids, not sure what the laws are, but that's up to them, and I don't know how much Disney can change about that. And yes I agree, it's totally wrong to break the law.

Also think that possibly, just MAYBE, those stumbling around Illuminations in the dark were doing it... you know, because it was DARK. Sober I have a hard time walking around there at night.

Anyway, just relax, don't force your own beliefs on what you think Walt would have wanted, what others want, and more importantly, what I want. Just sit back, watch some ABC Family while drinking some O'Douls...

Ouch, please don't scream. =)
Alot of things are probably not what Walt wanted. He did himself indulge in cocktails from time to time according to any book that I have read. Magic Kingdom doesn't sell alcohol. You shouldn't over do it but each to his own.
**edit to add** obviously underage people should not be drinking, I missed this when I posted

You're absolutely right! Let's bring back prohibition! :ROFLOL:

On a more serious note... at least you can still be thankful that no alcohol is served at MK.

It's just a reality of our society that most adults these days cannot adjust their lifestyle enough to go on a dry vacation. This puts Disney in the following dilemma: 1) Some people might avoid going to WDW all together if they couldn't drink alcohol on property. (I have relatives like this). If WDW didn't serve alcohol they would lose this competitive advantage to parks like Universal or Busch Gardens. 2) Serving alcohol in the parks gives them the opportunity to make so much extra money $$$.

As for that family giving a beer to their underage son..... that sort of activity is hard to control in any situation, and I can guarantee you that Disney is extremely strict on underage drinking.

I consider myself a completely unbiased observer in this matter, since I myself am a non-drinker.

I don't see a bright future for this thread.

But for the record, one of my favorite things to do at Epcot is sample the sake at Japan. And the champagne at France. And have a bratwurst and beer in Germany. All the while having a good, relaxing time, which is also what I think Walt would have wanted.

We've been to WDW several times and occasionally had adult beverages there. I really don't see anything wrong with that, and frankly I wouldn't let someone else's drinking spoil one second of my vacation. I can't say that I've ever seen anyone that drunk there (who could afford that?), but even if I did, I'd just ignore them and enjoy my vacation. Life's too short sweetie!

Which brings up another good point.... They shouldn't take away good times from the masses just because a few irresponsible alcoholics go too far. This is why they have tight security at the parks along with a very strict underage drinking policy. I've seen 60 year olds get carded while buying alcohol in Epcot.

Maybe she was wondering why you "giving her the nod that it was going to be okay." That's the problem with silent conversations. They're so hard to understand! :p

They are usually on the lagoon side of the World Showcase path. Not every country has one but Mexico has the margarita bar as part of the Cantina, Germany has beer cart/stand inside the near the fountain, France has their little wine and champaigne booth, UK has their beer stand right next to Rose and Crown, and Canada has theirs beer cart right next to one of the rocks hiding the lights for RoE. Probably forgot a few or never noticed em to begin with.

The way I see it, if the drunks are making idiots of themselves, that is a great learning lesson for the kids. Especially if they're to the point of being escorted out of the park. I'd have a problem with the drunks if they were either:
1. In my way
2. Shouting profanities or obscenities within earshot of my kids
3. Puking on my family. Particularly this one.

Otherwise, I don't have any problem with adults having a few at WDW. And I've been a teetotaler for over 10 years.

Yep forgot those. Doh! Though my comment does still applies to the DHS.

Perhaps the OP started this thread on another *coughDiscough* board and didn't get the comments she wanted....:lookaroun

Actually, Disney probably handles it pretty well. Certainly better than other parks.

No one really over does it except the ocassional guest at Epcot (and probably some people late at night in Pleasure Island). You don't really see it at the other parks.

They always pour it into a discrete plastic cup and only sell one per ID.

Plus, as mentioned before, Magic Kingdom doesn't serve alcohol.

Although I'm not entirely sure on this, I think the OP was mistaken when they said that Disney sells "hard liquor" drinks.

Really? Is that the same Walt Disney who had a scotch and soda at the end of every work day during his daily massage before driving home?

That Walt Disney?

I just started reading a little on this thread and this is exactly what I was thinking too. I have seen a few people drinking there but I have never seen anyone drunk.

OH NO NOT ALCOHOL! GIVE ME A BREAK, VACATION, TIME TO RELAX AND UNWIND. Give me a break stop trying to tell me what to do. Move away from me, walk away. YOU are probally the same person that won;t let me keep score in TEE BALL. Or you are the person that made the rulle that my kid has to sit down becuase your kid has to get a chance and he is the worst player ever. Get over people, people like to drink and it brings in a lot of money. the ALCOHOL isn;t going anywhere anytime soon. JUST be happy it wasn;t you who I drop my drink on during the fireworks.

its not that bad over in epcot, get this i was in a theme park in england and there was somone dabbing ketamin (class A horse tranqulizers) in the the que for an roller coaster.

tbh i dont see what the problem in, alchohol isnt a big deal over here and when drunk responsible its alright, tbh ive been drinking tonight, but id love to be in epcot, i understand its a family park, but if people know how to do things responsible its fine, i beleive that 21 is too old for american law, no offense but when peple start drinking at that age more accidents happen its in experience that causes problems but being european its part of everyday life, i even work in an off license, as long as its responsible its fine. who aggress with that statement? :lookaroun

if im honest todays units are:

5 beers
3 jagermeisters (bombs)
4 double vodka redbulls
7 apple sours
a smirnoff ice
and a triple bacardi pepsi.

its not a huge deal, im actually coming down and im resposible, yeah amounts are high but in disney people should really just chill out its laid back, drinking around the world is great its expected, in paris you can get like 3 pint glasses of beer in the actual castle. alchohol really isnt a big deal
