While we're staying at Poly next month, I know I'm going to have to try some Tonga Toast :slurp:. I see you can get it at Captain Cook's and Kona Cafe - wondering if the taste/quality is the same at both places or should we find at least one morning to have a sit-down breakfast at Kona? If you rec. the sit-down version, do you think I need to call for ressies ahead of time or can we wait until the week we're there?
Thanx

Tonga Toast is the single greatest thing to ever be invented....you have to get it at Kona for the first time because it will come with the fruit compote. Captain Cooks doesn't have the compote, but it is the same Tonga. Absolutely make reservations. You will have to get Tonga more than once, so get it at Captain Cooks the second time around! (cheaper at Cooks as well...)

And as a side note...after Tonga Toast, you must get the baked french toast at the Bakery on Main Street in MK...can you tell I like french toast?

I think I'd agree that you should get it at Kona Cafe first. It's just more of an event for you that way, partaking in the grand Polynesian Village tradition that is Tonga Toast.

If you're talking about the French Toast loaf, I saw a thread on another forum that said the French toast loaf has been discontinued as of early March--posts said manager of Main Street Bakery told people there are no plans to return it to menu.

To OP - just an FYI...that tonga toast is VERY sweet...hubby & I both have sweet tooth, but we could barely finish 1/2 a serving between us. We were actually starting to get a tummy ache after just a few bites. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. Our fave at Kona Cafe is the macadamia nut pancakes with pineapple topping.

NOOOOOOOO!!!

One of our family traditions is that on the last Magic Kingdom day of a trip, we get there early, go to the bakery and get breakfast. My wife and I get the French Toast Loaf, and the kids split a cinnamon roll (they are HUGE!!).

At least we have the recipie....now I have to find it!

Oh god no...I love the baked French Toast...this is a sad moment. But Tonga is my absolute favorite. Once, after my wife and I had it Kona, I got another order at Capatian Cooks...oh, I could feel it going straight to my heart. My wife and I are are pretty strict about eating healthy, but we're food snobs as well when we go out...but when it comes to WDW, all bets are off.

You will not be disappointed. I don't really eat meat anymore (haven't in quite a few years actually), and it comes with a side of bacon, ham, or sausage...my wife swears by the ham, but I just substitute for a load of homefried potatoes...which are really good there.
Go easy on the syrup and fruit compote...eat slowly and savour every bite. Then after breakfast, go to Captain Cooks, and get another order!!!

ENJOY!!!
