Tomorrowland Speedway drops Indy

Being from Indy I must say it sucks a little bit losing the Indy name there but I think it is time they update the ride and maybe make it more futuristic.

Have a just woke up from a 20 year coma this morning? I am reading thread where people are actually suggesting a ride be redone with a Pixar Cars re-theme, where people are calling for the removal of ride that has been around since Walt's days at Disneyland. What's going on who are you people and what have you done with the real wdwmagic forum members? Everything being said contradicts almost every other post about rides having Pixar added in and changes to rides Walt had a hand in. :veryconfu:veryconfu:veryconfu

We love Pixar here, don't we gang?

Other forum members: We.love...Pixar (as they say with blank stares on their faces) and who or what is Walt?

Now there's a good Twilight Zone episode.

What if they rethemed Autopia to be more...I don't know...Tomorrowland?

Nothing says "Transition between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland" like gasoline and fender benders. :)

I always wondered why there was a car ride in Tomorrowland as well until I got the Disneyland Treasures DVD set. They showed that the freeway was the 'way of the future' back when Disneyland was made. So thats why it was in Tomorrowland. Back then it WAS the future!

Many years later freeways are a reality and so the attraction really doesn't belong in Tomorrowland anymore. Besides that, there are similar car rides in other parks, people don't need to travel to WDW to do something that they could do anywhere else.

I agree that rethemeing it to Toontown Fair would be a good move. Have it link through Pete's Garage, set up the country houses for various characters, etc. That way it won't get dated with the futuristic element, you can use Stitch and Buzz near the TTA to tie it into tomorrow land, and you then pull Toontown Fair into the loop of MK instead of this "offshoot".

Link it to Toontown and bring in the Cars theme...or at least add more Mickey, Minnie, and the gang to the mix. It's time to do a Matterhorn and switch it from Tomorrowland to either Toontown or Fantasyland. Please no NASCAR.

I agree that this is a great idea. The only problem I can see is it's proximity to Tomorrowland, and lack thereof to Toontown. I don't often visit Toontown, but isn't it sort of isolated?

I feel that NASCAR already has it's spot in the limelight at WDW and doesn't belong in the Magic Kingdom.

Having never personally cared about the attraction, nor ever having ridden it, I do feel that this is some prime real estate waiting for the right attraction to be developed.

What would be great if there was some sort of new technology like a hover car or something. I know that's crazy, but it would have been a nice change and it would certainly add into Tomorrowland. They should remove the track and make them go-karts =)

Toontown and the Speedway pretty much butt up against each other. I don't think it would be too difficult to restructure the loading area to be next to Toontown. If they wanted to spend less money, they could just put an entrance in Toontown and reroute the queue so that it makes its way back to where the loading area is now. As for Tomorowland, tall trees and shrubs could hide it pretty well, but the truth is, it doesn't really need to be hidden. As mentioned, Matterhorn was once classified as a Tomorrowland attraction at Disneyland, but is now part of Fantasyland. It sits on the edge of both and can obviously be clearly seen from both. As long as the queue for the Speedway starts out in Toontown, it shouldn't be a problem.
And to the poster who thought the idea of a Cars theme would be bad...why? The attraction is already about cars, why not give it its natural tie-in? If it's a part of Toontown or Fantasyland it would fit in perfectly. It's one of those few times it seems to make sense to link it to a Disney or Pixar cartoon. Now, if someone starts going on about making Space Mountain themed to WALL-E, then I'd have a pretty big problem with that...

What next, change Mickey Mouse's name?? The cars are dirty, loud, run down and the queue is annoying but I love it. It is a must on our vacation.

I don't think Nascar would be appropriate but if there were to be a refurbish on it, i'd say go futuristic and add a Mickey/Minnie car twist. In all honesty, I really don't think it fits in with the whole Tomorrowland theme.

Just looked at a map (which I suppose I could've done in the first place)--you're exactly right.

I think the best idea is to have an entrance to the speedway in the current Toontown and re-route the queue, since Toontown's entrance is isolated from the other lands (more-so than the other lands' entrances). It would seem odd to have Toontown in its own little area, then have the Speedway entrance where it currently is, but still be considered part of Toontown. Shrubs, etc. probably could conceal the track from Tomorrowland pretty well!

Wasnt the speedway or "autopia" redone in Disneyland a couple years ago with a CARS theme?
Ive seen a picture of their new car vehicles and they look really nice and colorful or was that Hong Kong? Now I am not sure but for once I too would agree to theming this to pixar's cars.

Neither on is themed to Cars. If you look on youtube plenty of on ride videos have been posted from both parks.
