Is it still possible a theming change will come in the future? I wanted to say it was mentioned (maybe by @marni1971 ?) that it still might even though it wasn't happening during this closure.

So glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm bummed it isn't being done away with now, its truly the ugliest part of Magic Kingdom.

Such a massive space with so much potential. I get the appeal of an attraction like this back when it was unique, but literally every regional amusement park has some variation of this now.

Time for the speedway to close for good. it has absolutely nothing to do with Tomorrowland. was a cute fun ride 30 years ago but a huge waste of space now. it cannot run when weather is bad. much better option to make it a true indoor ride of the future..... long overdue!!

Another wasted opportunity to add to the Thunder Mountain lack of upgrade situation. This makes no sense really. It’s 2 decades late already.

I’m happy with the overall additions coming to Disney over the next few years with more promised but as of right now I’m not hopeful MK will be in the shape it deserves to be for the 50th. As I said, it’s the unloved child.

To be clear - you're not saying the track is going to go all the way 'around' the Tron building, correct? Just rerouted around (away from) the new construction.

Correct - the Indy Speedyway will be shortened to make way for TRON's front portions, it won't be going around the ride building.

It's a shame, I could see them reclaiming it for trying to fit in. Imagine the top part of the guide rail having lights, and reflecting the color of the car that passes over it. I also got kind of bored and designed a car, lol!

I'm missing it somewhere. I read about the closure and reopening of the speedway but don't see any reopening dates for the railroad - unless it's going to reopen around the same time?

Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean that nobody likes it. If nobody liked it there wouldn't be lines waiting on it. At this moment the wait is 25 minutes. The mine train is only 50 minutes and more than half the attractions have wait times 25 minutes or below.
The speedway is a must do for my grandkids every trip.

"Speed"way.....LOL. 2mph! Make it an oval, like IRL, with a traffic jam on each long side, like the commute to work and back home. The cars can inch forward while a sea of brake lights illuminate the happy kids faces. Nothing says bubble like this.

I know it's not worth much, but I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour the other day, and our tour guide "confirmed" this when going over what's coming to the parks. Small step up from a bus driver rumor, I know.

Shoot. That was one of the things I was looking forward to when I visit WDW next year! Hopefully it'll reopen sooner than later! It was painful waiting over 1 (or was it 2?) years for the DLRR to reopen
