I'm all for another sit-down restaurant in MK.

Crystal Prison? No, its a buffett and has a lot of kids. Also very hard to get into.
The Castle? Better have made those ressies early.
Liberty Tree? Good restaurant but its a Thanksgiving buffett.
Tonys? Last good meal was a Christmas Day walkup with a friend in 2005.
Plaza? Very limited seating but a nice burger, last time i was allowed to eat there.

And seriously, what's the other sit down? The buffett in Diamond Horseshoe (seasonally)?

MK has a need for another table-service restaurant with a standard menu.

And then Disney Dining needs to be restored to its glory days with large menus and diverse selections.

It really was Bad Show. I mean, I personally loved it because I've always been interested in how stuff works and "behind the scenes".

From the Skyway, there were no secrets. You saw beyond 20k at times. You could see outside the TL berm. And worst of all, you were looking down on the top of a bunch of warehouses.

As cool as it was, it completely ruined the magic of the Magic Kingdom. Instead of medieval facades on the fantasyland buildings, you saw metal roofs and air conditioners. Instead of the 20k lagoon and cave entrances, you saw a giant warehouse with parking lots behind it.

But, after seeing Martin's photos, it doesn't surprise me that they thought the Skyway was "OK" back when they built it. They weren't too concerned with guests seeing pick-up truck, or seeing outside the FL berm - so I guess they thought the novelty of a cable-car ride would outweigh Walt's specific intent to preserve the magic at WDW.

I'm just shocked it lasted as long as it did. I REALLY doubt that maintenance and upkeep was the primary reason for getting rid of it. Like you said, there are many ski lifts and other cable-driven systems around the world, with operating budgets of much less than WDW's.

I agree with this completely. I have never understood the appeal with the Skyway. For people to talk about it in the same sentences as Horizons or Journey Into Imagination (the first) defies logic. The latter two attractions are wholly unique and immersive experiences. The former is a cheap amusement park ride that you can still find at a lot of cheap-o amusement parks. I'm sure the argument is that the 'view was great'. That view didn't disappear--there is still sky. Want a nice view, take a helicopter ride over the MK. The nice view doesn't change the fact that it was a simple attraction and bad show.

Agree with all of this completely (although I can tolerate the kids at CP). The MK needs more dining options, especially if Disney is going to continue cramming the DDP in everyone's face. This would be the perfect location, too. Restore the waterfall, use an architectural style similar to the Skyway building, make a couple references to the Skyway in the restaurant (although I wouldn't name it the "Skyway Cafe"--it needs a humorous name like the rest of the Tomorrowland eateries) and you appease everyone.

Is it just me, or does it look like a lot of the building is still there? Maybe I am way off, but I'd say at least 60%. I very well could be wrong...anyone?

The 2 story actual building is indeed still standing. What has gone is the upper level (load/unload) which was on legs.

Let me explain the bolded. There are people who post here whose only goal is to be critical of WDW. That is why the same people who complain about lack of refurbs can the very next day, complain about closures and construction walls. In case you have not noticed, no matter what happens at WDW, these same people will find something negative about it.

For instance, everyone loves the castle lights. But someone will always complain about the crane needed to put them up.

Yes, and that constant criticism is annoying, although in this case, I think some of the people complaining aren't the typical critics, but a much larger group.

It also works the other direction, JT. A lot of your posts seem to be positive simply to overcompensate for the negative individuals, which is equally as irritating. There is a middle of the road (the perfect example I can think of from current posters would be "jakeman"). I know you have logical reasoning capabilities, because you used to demonstrate them in your posts (heck, you might've even been a little on the negative side), and sometimes still do.

Most of the time, it seems you just take an accusatory tone with the negative crowd and jump to conclusions that one should not deduce from logic (as in you assume that an act currently being performed supports a conclusion that is far too tenuous to be the natural conclusion one should draw from said act. You then present said tenuous conclusion as fact, and make a positive value judgment regarding the future - this seems to be the formula for way too many of your posts). I don't know what the deal is, I surmise it is just overcompensating to get under the skin of those individuals with whom you have conflict, but they aren't the only ones reading it. Don't get me wrong, they are not blameless either, but the constant ing match between the groups gets old for those of us who don't really want to read a battle of egos.

This is partly why I've mostly retreated to lurking again. I don't have time to discuss trash cans, EPCOT Center nostalgia, and Beastly Kingdom ad nauseum with people for whom nothing is EVER good enough, even when WDW is finally getting its act together. However...

^^ That's true too, and it's just as frustrating to see people breathlessly praise everything Disney does as it is to read the Negative Nellies.

But it takes all kinds to make the world. :)

The Fantasyland expansion should address some of the food issues. :drevil:

So about that T-Land Skyway station...

I am of the opinion D23 Expo could solve the entire problem. My over optimism is purposefully as extreme as the doomers negativism. It's to make a point. I'm suprised for all your analytical ability you haven't picked up on that.

But again, I think D23 will solve a lot. At least it should.

I agree 100% and would have welcomed any help from anyone explaining how WDW was getting it's act together. But I was pretty much a lone voice for several months. Especially when the "blame TDO for everything" was going on. Including the slander against some individuals. Any help would have been appreciated. But at least you have now acknowledged what I've been saying for the better part of a year. Thank you for saying that.

I would have gladly just lurked the entire time.

So, are they only working at night on this demolition? In all the photos it appears that the excavators are void of operators and that they're all sitting still.

Demolition is a noisy and dusty process, so I can only presume that they'd limit work to overnight hours.
