Photo update and construction explanation, as of Saturday, October 13, 2018. People Mover support columns. A few photos and comments on this were made several pages back. Some of the "bulky" concrete foundations for the People Mover supports are being removed, and at the same time, "re-theming" the support columns themselves.

Notice the footprint of the concrete foundation is smaller (less of a trip hazard).

As a reminder, below is the original support column. What is now missing are the planters and built-in seating areas around most of the foundations, which I think made navigating during crowded times more difficult (especially when strollers were parked nearby).

Of course, during this replacement phase, the construction walls create a choke point in the main street of Tomorrowland.

Here are two views of the new columns. Notice the footprint of the concrete foundation is smaller (less of a trip hazard), and the upper structure is more open, less obstruction of the views as you ride the People Mover (i.e, you can see more). The new structure no longer actually "supports" the People Mover track, it doesn't even connect with the building above. However, you can now see the actual steel beam supporting the track in every other location. Not sure if this will remain as visible, or if there will be some masking yet to be completed. There is a blue light on top of every structure.

If I remember correctly the larger footers w/ seating were only past the entrance to LF. I believe that they have not altered the current footers as of yet. I imagine at the time of these photos only part of the support columns had been removed and you can probably expect the "Sails" to be removed eventually.

Edit: Looking at google street view it actually appears no changes have been made to these supports, yet.

I hate to correct you since you're in the parks so often, but I think you're wrong with the footers. Here's a shot from Google Maps, Feb 2016:

Nothing there looks different.
