Tom Cruise at the Magic Kingdom

But these services are still available for purchase, right? Little Suri's private princess meet-and-greet in the Rose Garden may be a complimentary gift to the Cruise family, but any wealthy suburbanite with no particular media clout can purchase the same thing for their little girl for a few grand, if I'm not mistaken.

If you pay enough, Mickey will follow you around and call you "Tom Cruise" all day. He'll even let you jump on his couch.

oh yes, I completely agree... I thought we were on the same page there. VIP access isn't a free feature, for us its an insane number but for those in that class its just another day in the life. I'm sure the VIP access is a steep, steep fee... I should have made that clear, I was never under the impression nor trying to present that they simply strolled in and got that for free

Yeah, I figured we were on the same page and just working out semantics.

To quote a famous drummer and lyricist (NP):

Living on a lighted stage approaches the unreal

For those who think and feel

In touch with some reality beyond the gilded cage
Cast in this unlikely role, ill-equipped to act

With insufficient tact

One must put up barriers to keep oneself intact
Living in the limelight, the universal dream

For those who wish to see
Those who wish to be

Must put aside the alienation

Get on with the fascination

The real relation, the underlying theme
Living in a fish eye lens, caught in the camera eye

I have no heart to lie

I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend
All the world's indeed a stage and we are merely players

Performers and portrayers

Each anothers audience outside the gilded cage
Living in the limelight, the universal dream

For those who wish to see
Those who wish to be

Must put aside the alienation

Get on with the fascination

The real relation, the underlying theme

Aahhhh....thank you for that! Some sanity from my favorite band in an otherwise insane thread!

He can be my wingman anytime.
Look up on YouTube the scene in "Sleep With Me" where Quentin T. goes off on a rant about Top Gun.
Classic monologue, and will forever prevent me from using that quote you just did.:D

Not that there's anything wrong with that....;)

I could probably do worse.

How much time do they get to spend on stage? Being whisked around from ride to ride backstage would ruin the fun for me. Not the not waiting in line part just the breaking the illusion part. Most any celebrity would cause a ruckus no matter who they are. If their "Fan"atical people are there then a scene would start.

Take Giada and drop her into the Food and Wine Festival with or without the Cami Secret and a riot would ensue.

Tom Cruise at MK with soccer moms everywhere that drooled over him as teens or young women = chaos. You would have women trying to get to him and dropping like it's hot to get his attention. Madness!

Exactly, him getting the VIP treatment is just as important for him to have a good time as it is for me to have a good time and not battle through his entourage or adoring fans.

Who the really cares about this guy anymore?

He is free to practice what ever he wants but he is a freaking nut, with all his Scienctology crap.

And I am free to have whatever opinion of him I want as well!

I'm pretty sure anyone can hire a concierge to help get you fast passes to get you on rides quicker? I'm sure Tom Cruise had more than that, but if I wanted to pay for it, I could get a concierge and get special treatment. You don't have to be a celebrity. And, not to mention, I'm sure he's paying A LOT for the special treatment. It's not like he's getting it for free. I don't know why it's anyone else's business if I want to pay the big bucks to have a concierge and skip the line or get a personal car to pick me up so I don't have to ride the bus or whatever it would be. If you have the money, I guarantee Disney would let you pay them to "upgrade" your services during your stay. Don't forget, Disney is a for-profit business.

I think he is a nut also, but I do think he's a really good actor as well, so it doesn't stop me from watching his movies.

Wow. I have to say I'm surprised at some of the posts on this thread. I was all excited to read about how fun it must have been to see him on property.

First and most importantly, it's a father enjoying a day with his daughter. Kudos to him. What an exciting time for Suri. Just like every other little girl, she wants to be a princess, she wants to go to WDW to see her favorite and her Dad helped her experience that. It's a perk for Tom Cruise fans to be there on the same day and hopefully catch a glimpse.

And yes, I would much prefer that WDW give him a few extra perks, particularly for the safety of his daughter. I would imagine that those complaining about the "special treatment" would think otherwise should they be the ones caught in the middle and "WDW let it happen". Because yes, when "everyone knows you", things happen even if you don't want them to.

It's GOT to be the Pluto days of summer if Tom Cruise visiting can cause 155 posts ...

FWIW, I will say I notice that WDW guests don't know how to handle themselves (as a rule) as well as DLR guests when celebs are around. That could be that Anaheim is just a short drive from the entertainment capital of the world and it is not at all uncommon (more the opposite) to see 'famous people' in regular places. They tend to know when to ask for a photo, strike up a conversation or just back off ... it isn't the same at WDW where people tend to go nuts over anyone with any degree of celebrity. ... You should see the attention I get when I'm just sitting on a bench with a nice fanboi trying to enjoy a Dole Whip!

I challenge anyone that thinks that celebrities shouldn't get perks such as skipping a line to have to stand in a line up with one. Good luck with that, you'll most likely be pushed, shoved and have cameras snapping in your face all day. Maybe you didn't choose that but I guess that's what you get for being in line next to Tom Cruise.

In the mid-90's I escorted Micheal J Fox, Tracy Pollen and their then infant child from the Beach Club to the UK pavilion for dinner. It took us about 25 minutes to get from the front door of the Rose & Crown to their table. I have never seen people try so hard to claw at a baby and take it's photo. It was disgusting.

They were a very generous couple though understandably protective of the baby. Micheal hung back to sign autographs and take photos while Tracy took the baby directly to the table. I stayed with Tracy while my co-CM tried to keep the crazed fans from crowding Micheal too much and from getting in the way of other people dining.

Celebrities get treated differently by companies like Disney because the general public treats them differently. The protection is as much for the general public as it is for the famous person and their children. Yes, celebrities may have chosen a life of fame but wouldn't you rather they be taken through the parks with all guests safety in mind rather than you getting caught in the middle of an autograph seeking mob?

I don't really care if you think celebrities are getting better treated than you are. Get over it. If you really don't care about their fame then it shouldn't effect you at all. Don't compare your day at Disney with theirs. I know I don't bother comparing my daily life with that of celebrity...dammit, I had to eat a grilled cheese sandwich today while Tom Cruise gets caviar!!!

Big deal, he got to go on some rides faster than other people did. It's not like he kicked everyone out of the park.
