Tom Cruise at the Magic Kingdom

Now you know why Michael Jackson disguised his kids when he was in public with them ... so that they could go out and about with OTHER people who would have no idea they were MJ's kids ... I thought it was weird when I used to see them covered up, now I think that was pretty ingenious.

Yes, and many ridiculed him for it. Back in the day, Michael would visit WDW in costume(not just in the mask or shades) but appliances and other things to hide his appearance. Let's just say I know of a situation that happened like that. Someone knew it was him but had the respect and decency not to bother him.;)

Again I think the key being missed in all this by some folks is the fact that Disney isn't catering to the celebrities. They are catering to all the park guests. Sure they have a VIP guide with them but the point of it all is to protect the other guests from the potential of a dangerous situation resulting from a mob mentality.

to the people saying Tom Cruise is no better than I am... yes, yes he is... and he has about 75 million reasons why

am I the reality check police?

Wealth, fame and success don't make one a better person. Although sometimes, the opposite can be true.

It's also possible that Cruise is paying a hefty some for these VIP services. Any of these people complaining could do the same.

This.

Anyone who remembers the chaos that erupted on the day Shaquille O'neal just decide to show up at MK unannounced would never question Disney's celebrity policy.

When it comes to being at Disney, yes... it does.

I'm not accessing his reality in terms of him being the next Dali Lama

I'm not following you. Are you saying that because he is rich Disney should give him more? Or are you implying he paid for services the rest of us don't usually pay for. If it's the latter, I agree. If it's the former, huh?

These people just don't stroll in (although sometimes they do)... VIP Guest Services is notified and everything is catered to make their experience as stress free as possible. So yes, millionaires will come and get better service then the rest of us lowly peasants. Unsure why people have a hard time with this concept.

money translates and correlates to privilege and power... I know for a fact, if I have 75 million sitting in my bank I'm not standing in the heat with everyone else. You call, grease some wheels, and its VIP front access all day.

I don't love it. But I know it's a fact of life. But Cruise isn't getting this kind of treatment because he's rich. It's because he's famous. Disney knows that if they don't escort him around, it could turn into a logistical nightmare. This, I have no problem with.

But if you're suggesting that Joe Millionaire know one has heard of should get VIP tours based on the fact that his bank account is large without him spending any more than the rest of us, this is where we differ. I'm sure it happens. But that doesn't sit as well with me.

Getting back to Cruise, a point I keep forgetting to make, Disney is primarily an entertainment company. Cruise is an entertainer. Let's say Disney doesn't bend over backwards for him and Suri for their daddy/daughter day at their theme park. How do you think Iger will respond when he hears that one of the top stars in the world will no longer work for Disney Studios because they slighted him and his daughter at the Magic Kingdom?

I agree with the logistical aspects of Cruise. It's a safety issue for his family, as well as my own.

But you have to realize there are people with serious cash no one here has ever heard of and you think they wait in 200 min lines for TSM? Of course not. VIP status wouldn't exist if was merely for celebrities, they don't visit WDW THAT OFTEN to justify a whole team of tour guides. Having money opens any and all gates in this world, this isn't any less true when it comes to the most magical place on earth, Disney.

If you're spending a lot of money at the resort, sure. If you're staying off property and buy a 1-day ticket, I doubt it. Disney doesn't care that you have a lot of money unless they think they can get some of it for themselves.

Thing is, Disney charges for VIP access. They would be silly to give it away to someone who can afford it but chooses not to do so.

Do they wait in the heat with the rest of us? No. Do they pay extra for the privelege? In some way, shape or form, yes.

It's not like Disney sees a rich person and says, "Your money's no good here."

But these services are still available for purchase, right? Little Suri's private princess meet-and-greet in the Rose Garden may be a complimentary gift to the Cruise family, but any wealthy suburbanite with no particular media clout can purchase the same thing for their little girl for a few grand, if I'm not mistaken.

oh yes, I completely agree... I thought we were on the same page there. VIP access isn't a free feature, for us its an insane number but for those in that class its just another day in the life. I'm sure the VIP access is a steep, steep fee... I should have made that clear, I was never under the impression nor trying to present that they simply strolled in and got that for free
