Press previews for Toy Story Hotel tokyo has been released and gives us a more in depth look for new hotel.

I mean, go big or go home! Gosh, as garish and over the top it is, you know any kid staying there would have an absolute blast and I can't help but feel parents would have a smile on their face too. Normally i tend to not like these kinds of themed hotels (i'm looking at the contemporary resort with the shoehorned incredibles theme) but this is just... wow! Everything has been so well-thought-out. Brilliant!

Not Disney Related but it is breaking news as the government just announced that Japan will open its borders Beginning April 08,2022. to 106 countries.

From what I've read, not clear that anything is actually different. Appears quite meaningless in fact. There's a Japan Times story out on this in which a Government official is quoted as saying "this effectively changes nothing"

I think that difference this time around are the limit of people coming into japan, You have to remember only a few thousand can only enter japan in a day before new rules broke out, But this time There wont be any limited numbers entering japan, Thats from what I can think off.

But Still other Asian countries have already opened with less restrictions besides Japan and China.

Slightly altered limited time attractions seems to be a new marketing strategy for OLC. Announced today that Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is getting a limited time event this summer with "powered up" blasters (not sure what that means).

Stayed last week the day after it opened, it's pretty cute honestly. My biggest complaints were that TDR just doesn't know how to make edible buffets, and that the hotel's exterior is ugly. Everything else was great, the CMs were top notch as always, and the room experience was lovely.

This actually started a couple weeks ago, it's called Astro Hero Time and it just involved them turning off some of the high ticket targets that are usually moving so they're easier to shoot. Probably the easiest half-a** solution they have for USJ's XR rides, I can't imagine the same sort of thing going over well in Tokyo anyway.
Frankly I wish USJ would stop it too, but that's only because Space Fantasy: The Ride is one of my favorite attractions at any theme park on the planet.

(sad news)Apparently At Tokyo Disney Resort backstage,
Disneysea halloween show festival of mystic has been torned down, The show only lasted one season and truly one of the best shows of disneysea, The barges might had been broken after 2 years of not being used, Tip top easter barges might have the same fate.

Meanwhile The Middle Barge of Believe had been spotted in its full show mode backstage with sightings throughout the park, The barge is really tall in person.

What's wrong with TDR's buffets? Granted, I haven't been to tons and tons of them, but I didn't see anything about TDR's buffets that would make them any worse than any buffet from any of the other parks.

True, they're not targeting my precise palate, but I found plenty of good options nonetheless.

I just don't understand how people can talk about how terrible Tokyo's options are when WDW quick service and basically the entirety of Disneyland Paris' food operations haven't gone anywhere or improved in any way for eons.

From what I can see, Tokyo has a variety of food offerings of at least decent quality, often above, typically at a more reasonable price point than what you would get at the other parks.

I'm not a seafood person, and there's more seafood in the Tokyo parks than I personally would like, but I'm also not Japanese. If someone is vegetarian or vegan, yeah, I totally get it-the situation in the Tokyo parks in that case is terrible. Picky eater? I guess that's an individual situation that I can't really critique much (although my mother is also very picky and she had no problem finding things she could eat-and other than being underwhelmed by some of the popcorn flavors there wasn't anything she tried that she didn't like). But otherwise? Just seems like people complaining for the sake of it to me.

Maybe people just can't stop eating the burgers that everyone who has ever eaten and posted reviews of online have said are terrible, just because they're Mickey shaped? These responses confuse me.

The parks are made for their local audience (in this case Asians), which I understand. For me personally, I like American food and American-derived foreign food. Basically the only option for that at the resort is the burger quick service places. Which I actually don't think are bad, but still I would love more variety. (FYI, the Mickey burgers are no more. Or at least they haven't been since the pandemic, budget cuts I guess).

Then there's a lot of other things that IMO are just total misses. For example the pizza restaurants don't even have basic cheese or pepperoni pizza available. The ice cream parlor has like 3 flavors of cones and nothing else. The different flavored popcorn is a cool gimmick but 90% don't appeal to me and the classic salted and buttered Disneyland popcorn flavor is nowhere to be found.

Here's a look at the Fantasy Springs construction. You can see the shape Elsa and Anna.

I was under the impression that it was more than just burgers available. In particular, I'm thinking of the chicken available in places like Vulcania (not terribly far removed from a chicken nugget; I was under the impression Plazma Ray's also was selling similar items), the (outstanding) four cheese pizza available at Canaletto, the options at buffets (though I can't honestly recall what items were featured, apart from feeling like there were a decent smattering of western options available), Magellan's, and the options at the Alice restaurant, which has never let me down. Failing that, there are (albeit less convenient) American restaurants at Ikspiari.

I also think both TDR parks have great snacks, sweet and savory. Probably not optimal meal material, but no shortage of options.

Now obviously some of those options are more appealing as an infrequent tourist than for people that are coming more regularly, but those buffets and nice meals at TDR are both definitely cheaper than they would be in the US or at any other Disney park.

I totally get your beef with the quick service pizzas. Somehow I've ended up being talked into eating nasty pizza at the indoor Mermaid restaurant or Toontown by some other person each time I've visited the resort. That said, I did enjoy the calzone I got from Pizza Port-it was Pepperoni! Or at least something that seemed like it belonged on a pizza anyway. And the similar pizzas with more familiar toppings that are fairly common at, say, WDW aren't really any better apart from the ingredients being more what I expect to be on a pizza.

Ultimately I can't totally fault each country for catering (or trying to cater) to local tastes. At the same time, TDR and Japan in general could stand to be more accommodating to non-Japanese diets. Both statements are true. But ultimately TDR is never going to be DLR in terms of food because that's just not what their average visitor is looking for (not helped by the fact that they're not always great at caring much about what their non-average visitors want). Perhaps they have eliminated a lot of the options that helped you get through your day, and if so, that's unfortunate; that said, it also wouldn't be particularly different from other Disney parks in terms of big menu cutbacks and prices going up.

It doesn't sound like variety is the issue, just that it is not americanized enough. I would make the argument that it shouldn't be.

Now granted I could say the same about merch in those parks and take the opposite stance. :D
Speak for yourself. Among my Japanese friends (my sample group is college-age Japanese, mostly women), there's a reputation for food at the parks being pretty mediocre to even bad, especially for the price point it's at. It's not uncommon at all to leave the parks during the day and hike over to Maihama Station or Ikspiari for a meal at Saizeriya or McDonald's because the food is better for a cheaper price.

Heck my last time going with friends, it was a bit of a thing to get them to eat inside the park. Managed to sell them on that French toast sandwich at La Taverne de Gaston though, that's one of the best quick service items at any Disney Park on the planet.
