So I am new here and I have been looking through and reading many posts, and it seems the theme around here is hate for disney? I thought this was a fan site?? everyone seems to nit pick everything, and some of the comments on here are just brutal, and somewhat sad. I say that because I love disney hence my name lol, but because of this site I am thinking of taking my two week trip christmas into new years, and just booking it to universal. From what I have read on here it seems disney is no longer worth it at christmas and they have cut almost everything. And that you don't get your moneys worth a disney anymore:( So if someone out there can please tell me if thats the right thing to do or not then thanks. :)

No one hates Disney here. But most do want it to be the best it can be, and many don't think it is living up to their expectations at this time. When they are nit-picking, they just want the parks to be the best they can be.

Don't cancel your trip, but personally, I'd be going to WDW and Universal. both are filled with world class attractions. Especially if you're going for 2 weeks. That's a lot of time in Disney.

It's your cash; do what you want, and go where you like. There have been a good number of individuals on here of late with less-than-kind opinions towards WDW. And the WWoHP is supposed to be fantastic. But, if you truly enjoy WDW and its environ, go there and don't think twice about it.

Like I've always offered, if someone wants to tell me where to go, then they can pay for my family of four to go on vacation. Alas, I have yet to find any takers.....

LOL I like that last part, you're right. There is just so much to see and do during the holidays, I figured 2 weeks would be perfect.

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
Most of the nit picking as you call it is really just hardcore wdw fans looking for disney to up their game!!

We love wdw and would never swap to universal (visiting during a trip to wdw is an option)

I know if possible id happily head to the world for a 2 week christmas trip

It's not so much hate, but more criticism. People expecting more of WDW, and expecting a higher level of service. Some of the criticism is mostly justified, I.E. Removing the Lights of Winter from Epcot. Other stuff, not so much. People complaining because they had to wait longer than they expected for a ride, or that they didn't get a room upgrade when they demanded one, not so justified.

If you are going to be in Orlando for 2 weeks, do both WDW and Uni. I can't see Uni occupying more than 3 or so days personally.

Basically, Disney has created us "monsters". They have set the bar so high that we, as big time fans, hold them to maintaining that standard that they set. Back in the day there were no fan sites, news was not prevalent, and there were no shows on the Travel channel trumpeting Disney's achievements. Back then, we would go to the park and be generally surprised to see a new ride, change in landscape or new hotel. (I remember going when 20,000 Leagues had closed and being so upset - I had no idea ahead of time!!) Now we get daily updates of a pile of dirt over a wall. Our expectations are just higher, and while at times we get disappointed that Disney is cutting back or whatever, they are still the gold standard in theme parks and the others, while making strides, still have miles of ground to make up.

We are critisizing WDW because most of us know the World for a long time (I know the World since 1982) and we know for sure that things went already better. We know the parks had more to offer in earlier times, especially concerning little details like the fountains, additional street music etc. but also attractions. E.g. the MK lost an E-Ticket (20.000 Leagues under the Sea) in the 90ies without getting a new one as a replacement, in EPCOT there is an entire pavilion closed for years (Wonders of Life). The attractions were also better maintained and better designed, the last additions are mostly either total failures like "American Idol" *yuck* or have flaws like EE. The entire magic was more perfect. Guests got small booklets at the entrance to the parks until the early 90ies which listed up all attractions, all restaurants and ALL shops and today you get a single park map with only the most basic informations. A lot of details changed and mostly became worse
And we see what is happening and in the last years we mostly don't like the decisions that are made by the management, especially if you take the less-than-stellar FLE which is a sick joke if you consider that THAT'S the answer to Harry Potter, the first addition at Universal that really made an impact on Disneys attendance. We will stay at a Universal Resort for two nights next time because we want to have Universal Express and additional early entrance to Harry Potter, we would never have even considered to stay a few days off property if IOA wouldn't offer Harry Potter. And Disney's answer was the largest Meet and Greet area for Princesses and Pixies plus ONE clone ride of the Little Mermaid (oh I nearly forgot the second Dumbo, big deal for anyone without children under 6) until some managers started thinking and realized that their expansion is the lamest answer to Universal possible and seem to reconsider their plans. So we are real WDW-fans but that is exactly why we critisize a lot in the present World. And we are quite sure Walt would think the same.

Don't do anything. I encourage you to visit all the WDW parks, Islands of Adventure / Universal, and SeaWorld. If you can fit it in and have extra money, travel to Tampa one day and tour Busch Gardens.

Some people will always find something to complain about. A thread started about what Disney does wrong will always have more posts then one listing the positives. People love to complain. Compliment, not as much. Maybe we should start a thread "what do you like about WDW?" WDW is still an incredible place to visit with your family. US and Potter is awesome, but after about three days you will have done everything they have to offer.

This summer I went to Universal and the Harry Potter section is indeed wonderful, but if it were me there would be no way I would cancel my Disney plans!!! Spend the time at WDW and maybe take a day or two for Uni. In my opinion, no matter what complaints some people may have, WDW is FAR superior to Uni!

First off, welcome to these boards. I sincerely hope I don't have egg on my face in a few days if we come to find out you're a recently banned (or otherwise controversial) member in disguise, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt :)

If you're going to spend two weeks in Orlando, why not a split stay? A week on Disney property, and a week at a Universal hotel? Perhaps more days at WDW since there's WAY more to do. It's hard for many people to fill a week at Universal.

When I think of Christmas at Disney, I think of the Magic Kingdom. I never thought of Epcot or DHS until recently (because I'd never experienced them at Christmas). The Magic Kingdom's Christmas displays are no less magical than before.

And while Epcot took down a big white truss with some Christmas lights glued to it (which has caused some people to have severe mental breakdowns), they still celebrate Christmas very much - especially in World Showcase.

And if you want to be absolutely stunned, see Osborne Lights at the studios. There is nothing else in the world, in my opinion, that can out-do that Christmas experience.

I have no idea what (if anything) Universal does at Christmas, but it doesn't hold a candle to anything Disney does. We've been during the last two Christmas seasons, and have no complaints (except for one entire day 2 Januarys ago when there was literally NO music playing on Main Street the entire day - that was weird).

As others have said, the negativity on here comes from us being far too judgmental. We really take the cake on that. But at the same time, it's because we all knew what Disney used to be, and know that it COULD be like that again if it weren't for management and the ultimate fear of answering to stockholders. I think it can be safely said that people who actually don't like Disney...well...aren't extremely welcome here, and don't last very long :p

Again, if you are indeed a new member and honestly got this impression from the board, take all of the negativity too literally. We just want Walt Disney World to keep being the best vacation destination in the World.

I've seen far less Disney bashing here than some other boards.

oh well thats sad, cause I thought it was kind of bad here. i don't think I'm going to be into boards alot. I understand the whole they have set the bar, but at what point does it become ridiculous on our end? The way I see it disney has the money and a world wide fan base, they can pretty much do whatever. So i just try to look for the best and have fun.....And thanks to everyone for the tips and suggestions!
