So I am new here and I have been looking through and reading many posts, and it seems the theme around here is hate for disney? I thought this was a fan site?? everyone seems to nit pick everything, and some of the comments on here are just brutal, and somewhat sad. I say that because I love disney hence my name lol, but because of this site I am thinking of taking my two week trip christmas into new years, and just booking it to universal. From what I have read on here it seems disney is no longer worth it at christmas and they have cut almost everything. And that you don't get your moneys worth a disney anymore
So if someone out there can please tell me if thats the right thing to do or not then thanks.
First off, welcome to these boards. I sincerely hope I don't have egg on my face in a few days if we come to find out you're a recently banned (or otherwise controversial) member in disguise, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt
If you're going to spend two weeks in Orlando, why not a split stay? A week on Disney property, and a week at a Universal hotel? Perhaps more days at WDW since there's WAY more to do. It's hard for many people to fill a week at Universal.
When I think of Christmas at Disney, I think of the Magic Kingdom. I never thought of Epcot or DHS until recently (because I'd never experienced them at Christmas). The Magic Kingdom's Christmas displays are no less magical than before.
And while Epcot took down a big white truss with some Christmas lights glued to it (which has caused some people to have severe mental breakdowns), they still celebrate Christmas very much - especially in World Showcase.
And if you want to be absolutely stunned, see Osborne Lights at the studios. There is nothing else in the world, in my opinion, that can out-do that Christmas experience.
I have no idea what (if anything) Universal does at Christmas, but it doesn't hold a candle to anything Disney does. We've been during the last two Christmas seasons, and have no complaints (except for one entire day 2 Januarys ago when there was literally NO music playing on Main Street the entire day - that was weird).
As others have said, the negativity on here comes from us being far too judgmental. We really take the cake on that. But at the same time, it's because we all knew what Disney used to be, and know that it COULD be like that again if it weren't for management and the ultimate fear of answering to stockholders. I think it can be safely said that people who actually don't like Disney...well...aren't extremely welcome here, and don't last very long
Again, if you are indeed a new member and honestly got this impression from the board, take all of the negativity too literally. We just want Walt Disney World to keep being the best vacation destination in the World.
