Tips for doing WDW while pregnant

Hi everyone,

I announced a few weeks ago that my DH and I are expecting a baby! After almost 4 years of fertility treatments, our dream is coming to! We are over 12 weeks now, still praying for a healthy happy pregnancy and that everything goes well, but now that I am out of the first 12 weeks, its time to start planning!

My DH and I are still going to WDW in Feb but rather then running the Disney Princess Half Marathon, we are going to a gender reveal! To see the pre-trip report: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...-im-going-to-be-a-mom-pre-trip-report.876170/

The planning this time around is going to be very different. I will be 25 weeks along when we arrive. I should be feeling good in my 2nd trimester but I know I have major limitations and this is going to change how we normally do Disney.

I am looking for some tips, things to know, must do's, must don'ts, etc for doing WDW while pregnant.

Specifically:

list of rides to avoid and what is safe (I have googled this and I am on the conservative side so I won't be pushing the limits)

shoes - my feet are a disaster after a normal trip! I don't want to wear sneakers every day so something cute but functional and comfortable.

how to stay hydrated? I currently have a 52 ounce cup I carry around with me but I can't carry that around Disney World.

some hidden gems to see and do since we won't be focusing on the rides as much.

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions!

Most has been covered pretty well but I will poke you a little bit about gym shoes. I understand the dress and gym shoes but I give up the dress over the gym shoes while prego especially since you know you have had issues before. I never ever have issues with my feet and we mostly had done two week trips but prego feet are so much different, they are already supporting additional weight the arches are not use to. The only other shoes that I could wear for several hours were croc's, they have some with good arch support. During my first pregnancy my feet ultimately grew a full size and never returned. This happens to some and not others. Pay attention before you leave and make sure all the shoes you are taking with you still fit properly. One week they feet/shoes can be fine, next week they go into the never again while I am prego pile.

Still so happy and excited for you! :)

Thanks for the tips! I think I will try crocs. I'm so comfortable in dresses, that's why I want to wear them. A lot will change between now and then but things hitting my belly isn't the most comfy for me.

My sis did Disney in dresses too but with non athletic gym shoes. Not perfect but better.

And me, I never got use to any thing around the waist either after two babies. But I was a surveyor and needed to be in jeans. So I made it through month 5 in Oshkosh overalls, believing I had fooled my male counterparts. I knew I would be grounded when they found out I was prego, they wouldn't let me scale the sides of a ship. When I finally couldn't hide it any more they chuckled and said it was either you were prego or you were trying to win the Ralph Camden look alike contest. Then they grounded me :(

Oddly enough overalls were very comfy.

Too funny! Oh yes - it was the 90's but I rocked the overalls! :) hee hee loved 'em! :) I am hoping to find a slip on shoe or sandal with good support. I am going to wait to see what my feet do - start looking in January. Right now - my feet are the same. But we shall see if that changes. :) I have loads of maxi dresses and I'm trying not to buy too many maternity clothes. Since i'm a nanny - i live in yoga pants already. So i'm trying to use what I have. We will see if my master plan works! :)

OMG Congrats!!! That is extremely awesome and I know how much you guys want one so this is a huge huge congrats on my end of things.

My suggestion is to enjoy the moments...as husband and wife. The foods now, the quiet moments that perhaps you were to busy for before. I rode Tomrrowlands Tansit system a lot when I was expecting with my son. It was nice while the hubs ran around getting is ride on! We just took it a lot slower. Ultimately I would say it is going to depend on what you, your OB/GYN and your husband feels comfortable with.

I walk about 5 miles a day and I've also had very good luck with Keen Sandals. They come in so many styles. They are not as good as gym shoes however they have arch support and good impact give. At Disney I could make it in them about 6-8 hours before I would need to swap to something else, my gyms or croc's. They are water shoes too, they can get wet over and over again without any harm to the sandal.

Women with shoe size up to 7.5 can wear both women's and children shoes. The largest child shoe (europe sizes) is equal to a 7.5 and I find them to have a bit more room also in the box of the foot. I opt for the childrens shoes cause it is so much cheaper and fun prints. Lots of places carry them from Nordstroms, Dicks, REI

Mine from this year (childrens shoe)

Though I have the cute printed ones too. These are padded so well inside and your pinky toe does come out of this style.

Thank you so much! A Nalgene bottle - I'm assuming that is like the filtered water bottles? I have those. But my issue with those is that they are not cold b/c you fill up from the water fountain and those are never super cold. I did read though that any counter service will fill up your water bottle with cold water. Do you know if that is true?
:)

I have never been turned down when I asked for a cup of ice water at a QS location. I can only assume they would be happy to refill your water bottle directly, but even if not, y ou can pour the ice water into your water bottle if you prefer to drink from there.

My wife, son, and I went when she was 5 months pregnant once. I remember sitting a lot and AC worked best for her. They also enjoyed the pool one day while I went off to MK to enjoy the larger attractions that they couldn't ride. The pool was very relaxing for her. You will definately want to walk slow and not rush anywhere. Sit down as often as you can and drink plenty of water. She didn't like sitting on the sidewalk though while waiting for the parade to start. She said that hurt her rear. As far as shoes go, she wore sandals the whole time. Have a great time.

All the kids I work with have these. They seem to like them! :) I honestly didn't know they made them for adults! Or do I have to buy a kids size? that's fine if I do.

my doctor told me that the turns were to sharp and since i was a level 2 ( high risk) she didnt want me riding that ride so I passed :)

Based on age, I'm high risk. But we are waiting for test results to come back and I will get them in a couple of weeks. I guess I will find out then if I have any additional risks which might impact the rides. I hadn't thought of that!!!

I buy the children's mainly 'cause some are cuter, my inner kid and much cheaper, children up to women's 7.5 They do come in lots of adult styles too, most with less rubber toe. When you try styles on (some have croc like rubber on the inside some suede) watch where your pinky toe falls. I returned one pair/style because the pinky kept falling out, everyone's feet hit differently. For sandals they have a lot of arch support and I've never worn a pair out. Their shoes are comfy too.

I did Disney in October while 14 weeks pregnant. Other than what has already been posted, I would suggest bringing your cell phone with you in case you and your husband ever separate. On our last day, my husband took a shower and I went to the main building to print our boarding passes ( we were in Port Orelans Riverside) and as I was walking back I suddenly felt super weak and felt like it was - million degrees I was so hot. I ended up having to sit on a bench for about 15 minutes until I could get to our room, all the meanwhile my husband had no idea, as I left my phone in the room and couldn't call him

I was thinking I'd never go to WDW pregnant, but then I forgot I was there on NYE '94-'95 and I was feeling fine (was due at the end of April). But after that trip I made one thing clear to my DH --- I would never stay off property again. We tried to leave the MK at 1 a.m., with a 4 1/2 year old and didn't get out of the park and back to our hotel until 3 a.m. (we had a rental car). Don't know how I survived that!!

Many congratulations...my road to motherhood was not unlike yours - so even though we are total strangers and I have only lurked on your previous trippies...I cried a bit for you when I read your news. I'm such a saddo!

Tips: Usually I consider Birkenstocks ugly enough to be used as birth control, but...they make adorable Disney ones and they were terrific for this mummy's pregnant feet. I love Crocs in the house, I like Mickey Mouse Crocs on my kid - but even pregnant, I wasn't wearing Crocs in public!;) Like you I always wear a dress and the Birkies (I chose sandals with backstraps) went pretty well, were cool to wear and gave lots of support.

The pillow thing. By 25 weeks I needed 4 pillows to sleep. Lots of ladies I know (myself included) used a pillow between the knees during pregnancy to help with hip pain (exacerbated by lots of walking), and a couple others tucked around helped too. When I holidayed while pregnant, I always chucked a couple of extra pillows in the car and a couple of brightly-coloured pillowcases as well. I'm a bit twitchy about hotel linens and I just put the hotel pillows in my coloured cases so I knew they'd be clean (well...).

And remember those iron-rich foods!

Have a fab time!

My wife did Disney for the 1st time while about the same place you will be in your pregnancy. She swears by the keen sandals and said they helped them. Looks like you got most of the tips I would have offered but I would add this as I didn't see it in a skim of the posts.

Go to downtown disney and get the bath bombs that the marathon runners use. They're magical and the people at the store will know which ones you mean when you ask this. You get like 3 for around $15 I think.

Garden grocer for water is a must and will save you money.

Enjoy the time you have left living for yourselves. Once the baby comes, it's over. You will never be Me First again. The baby will always come first. For the rest of your life. When the baby leaves home, you get a little of the Me First again, but it's so very different. Everything changes the second the baby is born. Everything.

Enjoy the time with your husband and as an individual!!

And for heaven's sake, stop worrying about how things look. ;) Go with comfort. The baby will be so cute you won't even care, later, about your shoes. I swear. :)
