Out of curiosity I can go check into All Star Sports tomorrow for one night, the cost is $114. What exactly is my $114 covering?

Good points here. However, I still do not apply this logic to housekeeping. I will say good morning, good afternoon, thank you to housekeeping. That is enough, why do I need to leave a tip when I am paying.

Why do you hold a door open for a woman? Or say thank you if someone holds the door for you? Because it's the practiced norm, correct? It's just having good manners, and being appreciative of your fellow humans.

Your lodging for the night.

So when I say good morning to every cast member that is good societal norms? Great, no tip needed.

And I would leave a tip for one night?

social norm
noun

an expected form of behavior in a given situation
` Dictionary.com

Nope. I want a personal definition. And the keyword here is expected. I expect my room to be clean given I am paying $114 per night. Does not mean the housekeeper should expect a tip.

Really? So if you thank a bag handler or waiter are you then exempt from a tip?

Are you being purposely difficult right now?

Sorry, figured you wanted a peer reviewed definition of social norm. :D

That was the best I could do on the Internet atm.

I do not tip a bag handler because I am going to want to carry my own bags. But seeing that we go there? Do we also tip the guys that drop off our bags to the room from Magical Express? Rarely I am in the room to leave a tip.

Key words: Community, culture, accepted as normal. It is individual. Does that make me a bad person? No. It is my personal decision
Exactly. It is your personal decision. AND- it is a decision that is outside of the "norm".

We've reached an understanding on the matter. :)

Not at all. It is not outside the norm. It is outside of your norm.
Yes, it is. Really, there's no point in continuing this. You refuse to acknowledge what "social norm" means. Without a basic understanding of the concept then we are banging our heads against a wall.

Scroll back a few pages.. I posted articles. There are hundreds more. I'm sure you can find them.

The point is no one can change my opinion. I understand your points though and respect them.

Well in all fairness I never called you a bad person. :)

And I guess we see the definition differently. Normally the words community, culture, and group mean the opposite of individual. It normally means a summation of many people and their ideals.

And that's fine. You are entitled to your opinion, and you are entitled to tip or not to tip.. that's your personal decision. But you can still make that decision, and acknowledge that it is not the norm. I just can't stand when people say "that's an older generation thing "...and not just because I'm getting old lol...it's still in the norm, but some people, of all generations, choose not to practice it.

I mean, some people here think I'm breaking the norm because I'm almost 40, and love to wear leggings.. and I don't plan on retiring them any time soon.lol. Sorry, not sorry @CaptainAmerica

Well that's rub isn't it.

Listen Dr Cheese eater.....

It's not an opinion that tipping housekeeping is a social norm. It IS a social norm.

It's your cheese eating opinion that we shouldn't be tipping them.

Do you see the difference?

Define a bad person? I think your definition is off.
In your case, someone who knows specific things they're doing which are objectively Not Good -- specifically, tipping people whom everyone else knows should be tipped -- and do it anyway simply because they feel like it. You're aware that your behavior is poor, but you defend it as your "personal choice".

It's my personal choice to consider you a poor patron of WDW hotels.
