And you are pathetic for doing exactly what I said yall would do. You trying to guilt trip or make fun of those who do not agree with your outlook on a specific item. I mean, I called that the second I wrote my post.
I am the sort of person who will tell someone to turn off their cell phone at a movie. To move their car if they take a handicap spot etc. Youbare saying you have the right not to tip just because you don't want to, which is fine but dont justify as anything more than being cheap. Talk about what corporations do or dont do are silly and do not help the person doing the job. And you can laugh at us saps who care how another person gets along and find the 2 to 5 bucks a day but it still makes you a sad person to think like that, with a very narrow and selfish view of the world

Or a large group of people are tired of the tip mentality that is pushed by corporations. No one should expect a tip. No one should be shamed for not tipping. No one should be humiliated if they do not tip. Tipping is purely a personal decision. Anyone who expects a tip should have their expectations lowered significantly even at a restaurant. And especially in fields of work that do not utilize tips as part of their income. Simple as that. You can state that none of us has any empathy, but at the end of the day, why does it matter to you? If you feel like we arent doing enough, tip more and then smile. Congrats, you will feel better and this discussion wouldnt need to happen every other day. Everyone is so generous with other peoples money. Its quite funny.
I like the "tip more and smile" suggestion. We did that at a restaurant where our server was being run ragged by a party of four who were acting as though they were eating their last meal. They complained - loudly - about the food, service, table location, etc. Meals were sent back and had to be replaced. As a result, we got less attention from our server. She apologized, but probably didn't expect much of a tip. (And she certainly wasn't getting one from the whiners.) We left an extremely large tip and, yes, we felt great about it! Probably will be labeled as stupid, but it sure made us happy.

If you can count to 10, be honest, smile and be genuine to people, yes I can offer you an entry level job for at least $15/hour and full time work with benefits, 401k and 18 days off a year with 10 paid holidays and more benefits than I can list

If you live in Colorado and need a job, let me know

Seriously...I wish I was doing job counseling/coaching in your area. I'd have a constant stream of candidates for you. I can find some jobs like this in our general area but there is no public transportation from our town to the towns these companies are in and many of my clients don't have personal transportation either because they never learned to drive or they simply can't afford to maintain a car and insurance. So frustrating.

I love doing this type of thing. We had a similar situation recently at a local diner. And we did the same thing -- left a very generous tip for our server because another table was just being a huge PITA for her. I've also been known to go through a drive-thru restaurant and buy a dozen cookies (or whatever "treat" they offer) and tell the worker at the window to hand the cookies out to the next 12 cars. Every time I do that, it makes me happy; it makes the employee happy (I've had a few cry when I told them what I wanted to do); and it hopefully makes 12 more people happy when they get an unexpected treat.

Some on here have the view cleaning hotel rooms is such hard work. I must ask have you never cleaned your own house? Vacuuming, dusting and cleaning toilets is not hard work boring but not hard. Having raised 3 boys I've done may share of cleaning toilets and lived to tell about it.
If you have not done it, do not assume things. I worked for six months as a room steward on a cruise ship in my early 20's and I can tell you that is by far the hardest job that I have ever had. Luckily, I did not have a lot of thankless cheapskates stiffing me right and left, and by the time I left that job, I had almost 20K saved up.

To you that’s grotesque. Feel free to make up my tip and stop being so free with everyone else’s money. That’s what great about this country. You have your own choices. Stop trying to play the moral high ground when their is nothing to be moral about. And stop trying to shame people for a personal decision because it doesn’t fit in what you believe. You people are worse than the religious community.

Honestly I was shocked they can count to 10. The amount of childish responses from these people is middle school level behavior. And bringing in pay to try to put me down. They are absolutely pathetic and downright embarrassing for them.

I’m not shaming you. You’re doing a perfect job of that all on your own.

I will never understand people like you who come on social media to brag about how while you are on a vacation that costs thousands of dollars, you refuse to throw the person who is scrubbing your filthy toilet and changing your sheets a couple of bucks a day. How do you think that makes you look?

If you don’t want to tip, don’t tip. But coming on social media to brag about how you don’t tip? That’s just totally and utterly pathetic.

Whoa whoa whoa. you don’t understand why people brag about not tipping? You are doing EXACTLY the same thing acting holier than thou that you tip. There is a ying to every yang on these threads. You guys think your only the only one right even though majority of the civilized world no longer tips and in fact, pays their employees a proper wage.

Want to know why I don’t tip percentage wise? It’s because it takes no more skill to bring me a steak than a piece of chicken. Why don’t I see any of you pushing for the tips to go the kitchen staff where your steak requires additional attention compared to that chicken. You all are a bunch of hypocrites. They make worse money than most of these mouse keepers. Yet I hear nothing about those people. The people you don’t see. So yeah, I’m a nasty person. But so are y’all.

Also, who cares if I am paying several thousand dollars for a vacation. Part of that several thousand dollars is the hotel bill. The bill that ensures I have a clean room. Don’t try that crap of trying to quilt trip me. It’s honestly sad that you are even trying. Your reasoning on why I should tip is the most backward thinking ever. Tipping should never be expected period. It’s a gesture of thanks for beyond normal experience. Not a guarantee.

There’s a surprising amount of detailed analysis going on here. I just figure if I can afford to spend $2,000 on a hotel room for a week, I can lessen my grip on that $5 bill for the people cleaning the room. I can’t say I would be disturbed if the tip went to someone who didn’t make up the room the previous day - and I don’t spend a lot of effort trying to correlate the exact amount of the tip to some “extra” effort. If others need or want to watch their money that closely, that’s their choice.

No one is convincing anyone here and there’s an awful lot of name-calling going on. Like it or not, tipping is customary in this country. No one is tipping so people will notice them and think well of them. It’s more likely that the people who don’t tip are the ones being noticed.

Just curious......but does the person scrubbing the filthy toilet, mopping the floor, changing the toilet paper and paper towels in any one of the given MK restrooms....so that you can take care of your business in a relatively sanitary fashion.....do they deserve to be tipped? Just asking.

Curious as to the determining factor between two individuals who are performing a similar job function as to why one should be tipped....and the other shouldn't.

There's nothing wrong with tipping.......if you feel you received service for something that met or exceeded expectations....by all means tip. And feel free to tip well. It's the whole "I just tip because" mentality that I just don't get.

So to summarize:

1. No one has suggested that tipping is required.

2. Tipping is, and has been customary in the US forever, including hotel housekeeping.

3. Feel free not to tip, but don't be at all shocked when you get nailed for the being among the outliers who don't, either out of ignorance or just because you're a cheap and selfish piece of garbage.

You are in the minority here overall...im talking overall, not just on boards. Far more people don't tip hotels maids than do...thats just a fact. Ask a La Quinta maid...and don't be shocked for being nailed? That makes no sense.
And..
So, those who don't tip...is a" piece of garbage"..I think that statement sums up exactly why alot of holier than thou folks on here is pretentious...not just on here but in their real life. They do no wrong...They are even holier than st peter...
So lets all bow to one of three. Because they are just perfect, special people...and dog gone it...people like them...they are good enough and smart enough....certainly, better than the rest....caused they say so...just ask them.
lol

How sad you think someone think tipping 2 bucks a day would make them think they were perfect. Again go on being you but yeah it's cheap and just because lots of people do it doesn't make it right. I'm just gonna chalk it up to how you and your non tipping brethren were raised.

Nope. And I disagree with OneofThree on just about everything on this site but in this case, I support his view entirely. And where do you get your evidence that “far more people don’t tip hotel maids than do - that’s just a fact.”

If it’s just a fact, just prove it. I’ll wait.

And again, another person on here thinks that bragging on social media about not tipping people in the service industry makes them look good.

Got it!

And, These boards are like hospitals...they are full of sick people..meaning many will agree on a given subject..but represent an extreme minority of overall population. 99% of hotel stays in the USA is one night. And..the vast majority don't tip..If you don't believe that...ask any service union that represents maids....especially in vegas.
But, those who do tip..is doing exactly what you say im doing...bragging..its hypocritical. And laughable. I don't tip...maids. and the sun WILL come up tomorrow. There WILL be a year 2100 and we will all do just fine.
I do not care if you tip..at all ... why care if i don't?
Its like a radio program. if you don't like it..turn the channel. you are the type to want to ban it.
