This isn't news, not that it ever stops anyone in these parts.

You can be sure WDI has been working on concepts since the deal happened.

And many folks, myself included, have speculated that Shanghai will be the first wide-scale use of them. Jim Hill did as well (after I did).

I have no inside info on it, it's just common sense.

China is the largest untapped market in the world for Disney. And it makes little difference whther it's Mickey, Goofy, Pooh, Aladdin, Nemo, Woody or any of the Marvel characters. Disney wants to exploit them ... all of them.

The park has always been planned as a MK-style park, but one that would be very different than the ones already around. I have a strong 'guess' (that's all it is, but it is an educated one) that Disney may well be doing some last-minute changed to facilitate getting Marvel in somehow.

I have no opinion as to whether this is good or bad or in between until there are actual plans.

But again, not news.
Good for profits....Horrible for the Disney Tradition.:brick: Makes a little sick to be honest with you!

News? Nope. But a good point for discussion.

For WDW, not Disneyland.

Again, WDW is only prohibited from using those several characters featured at IoA. That is the only limitation. And it is only in place for as long as Uni (or it's parent company) decides to keep them.

So we will see.

Somebody does. Probably a lawyer.
Even the lawyers may not be entirely sure. Marvel, being desperate for money, made a lot of very generous deals and those include the ones with Universal. Disney would be wise to play it safe for the time being and not include characters at Walt Disney World. Even if Disney could use other characters, they are not necessarily the most popularly recognizable characters and could lead to guest confusion.

x23 is probably the best x men shes wolverine daughter. shes a mutant as well same features as wolverine but better at it than wolverine Logan. Disney cant use the ones in the films. but the younger x men we can still use and the super heroes not mentioned by universal.

X-23

I love it ... Marvel talk ... I really missed it when I was away ...

But characters aren't coming to WDW, at least according to Tom Staggs and he is only the second in importance (sadly) at Disney to The Weatherman.

And you make a very good point. Most folks have some idea who Spidey or Hulk are ... but there is no upside for Disney to place characters into a park that only drooling fanbois would know.

That's just another reason why China makes sense to use them.

Although part of me says they've got a stable of their own characters and properties that would be great to use and they sit and collect dust ... or you have something like Mermaid that takes over two decades to get a major attraction.
But this would require the risk of trying to reacquaint the public with these characters and it is far easier to use ones they already know. I do not believe Disney bought Marvel for the 5,000 characters; they bought them for the big players, the ones that have permeated popular culture.

I'd wait and see before judging, myself.

You don't wanna be like our old pal Conundrum and mindlessly bash DCA without so much as ever setting foot in it.

It all depends on what they do.

True, but there is something that bugs me about some random character from another genre and "line of thought" being shoved into a Disneyland. A park that's exactly that. A place for Walt's idea for a park to flourish, and for ideas new and old to be seen.

Marvel is not their idea to showcase.

Meh. We shall see. It could look amazing, be themed to the hilt, and I'll be eating crow.:lookaroun

I'd hope they wait a few years, especially until after the release of a successful Disney/Marvel film.

I don't think Marvel fits into any Disney park at the moment, its just not established enough as a Disney property. Give it at least few years, until they start to become synonymous. Then maybe it could tie in to the Disney theme park family and its tradition

I would think they have two ways of going with all of this. One is the Universal model where you are "in" a comic book and it is all cartoony. This is also the line of thought taken with a lot of the Pixar presence in the park. Or they could follow the films and create real environments that make one question whether or not there are superheroes amongst us. I would much prefer the latter, as it creates a more convincing experience.

Exactly.

And those characters are useless in FLA ... the competition basically 'owns' them. And even in CA, Disney doesn't really have a place for them (yet ...) ... they won't ever be in DL ... and DCA has all kind of stuff already being worked on ... so that means international and China makes the most sense.

Disney wants to cultivate and grow a new fanbase and it doesn't matter one bit to Iger if the characters are Disney, Pixar, Muppets or Marvel. He'd prefer it be all of the above.

But there are plenty of Disney 'classic' characters that could be used in attractions ... be they from Jungle Book or 101 Dalmatians or Aladdin or Mulan or Lion King etc ... they're known. ... Then you have characters like the Muppets too.

Personally, they all are better-known than 99% of Marvel characters (fanbois aside). Just because they haven't been in recent films, doesn't make them 'old news'.

Put my comments on the record:

One (1) - "I'll Believe it when I see it"

And:

Three (3) - "Of course non-Disney things should be in a Kingdom Park too"

Two (2) - "They won't cause' of IOA."

Four (4) - "I agree."

Oh, and of course...

One (1) - "So is Your Face"

and two obscure references for the road.

Put that together, and you get the gist of my post.
