Well that castmember must have been smoking crack because Walt had been dead for like 20 plus years before that attraction was even created.

I wouldn't know, I didn't ask him for a drug test.

b/t/w.... EPCOT was designed by Walt Disney too and his death didn't stop THAT from being built.

I didn't say he swung a hammer, I was told he "designed" it. I'm just reporting what the castmemeber said to me. Maybe the technology for Walt's "vision" didn't exist when he put thought to paper.

Walt Disney designed the CITY of E.P.C.O.T. This project was cancelled, but Imagineering used the philosophies behind the city and created the Epcot Park. Mr. Disney never envisioned this city to be turned into what it is today (unless he was a psychic!). ;)

Walt played a part in designing Circle-Vision theatres, but the fact that the Circle-Vision theatres at both Disneyland and Disneyland Paris have now been or will be turned into Buzz Lightyear rides tells me Disney doesn't really feel a Circle-Vision show in Tomorrowland is necessary--and I agree. If they replace it with a quality attraction, I will be more than happy. How about a time machine simulator to put Back to the Future: The Ride to shame!

The circlevision theatre is only 100 feet in diameter though (including projection booths). There isn't much room to do anything. I am very surprised that they have managed to fit Buzz in there.

But on another point. Circlevision theatres lack massive amounts of attendance. I mean when China got a new film, there were still no lines. Canada has no lines. Time keeper sometimes has lines but only during the busy season.

Circlevision was originally successful because it was a Gimmik. It was "oh wow, Disney has built a theatre with a 360 degree screen, I want to check it out." But that is also the reason why Timekeeper has been the longest running(next to Canada and China) and most successful (Timekeeper wins by infinite miles) Circlevision films.

I do however see a 21st version of the Circlevision. It's called Soarin and it may be 100 times more successful for several reasons:
-You sit down (chairs were at once planned for circlevision)
-Thrill Element
-Much better film quality
-Giant screen

Im really not impressed with timekeeper and i dont know why anyone should. The show has no humor, it was not based on a Disney movie or Cartoon, and the show is just not any good. Even a meet n' greet is more useful then a show like that.

Brick I totally disagree with you. But I do like you because you are polite and you truely are rarely late. And I also enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

I agree with you, and I think that in today's world.....Circlevision is not too exciting....compared to other technologies available. What is so special anymore about a movie being all around you? Something similar can be said of IMAX. Many theme parks used to have IMAX theaters.....typically, they would show a nature-type movie, but many are now pulling the theaters out.....nobody is really impressed with a "big movie screen" anymore.....especially when they can see features playing on IMAX-style screens.

People today also don't want to stand while being entertained......I think most people (general public) prefers the entertainment hand-fed to them. They want action and interaction. Why is it that Buzz at the MK and MIB at Universal always have such long lines.....it is because the guests feels like they are part of the attraction. Today's guests seem to have the attitude of "I paid $50, entertain me, and don't make me work"....which is understandable.

I don't know about the humor statement. Every time I went in there I heard a few laughs from the audience during several parts of the show. And the ride not being based on a movie/cartoon doesn't put it down either. Plenty of attractions in WDW aren't based on a movie, and they are fine as they are. But that's okay.

 :veryconfu

A ride doesn't have to be based on a movie/cartoon to be successful. Case in point: Haunted Mansion. Every time I go on it, the attendance is great and it wasn't based on a movie, a movie was based on IT.

Walt Disney passed away in 1966. He had no involvement with Transportaurium/Timekeeper, but he certainly had a lot to do with the invention of CircleVision theatre.

Just a suggestion, but the cast member may have meant that Walt had spoken about building an attraction where the audience would travel through time using circlevision technology. And WDI decided to design an attraction revolving around his idea. That's just a guess....I know that Walt did have ideas written down for new attractions, theme parks, and so on that he wanted to one day create. Many of these ideas have now turned into reality.

man I feel sorry for the peopel that are put in charge of designing a new replacment, because whatever you do someone isn't going to like it. I don't really know what you do in a situation like this I just hope they have some really creative imagneers working on the project not the same ones that worked on figment and stitch  Don't get me wrong I love both attractions but they could have been so much better...O will Disney ever get a guy that makes smart choices??? hmmm what about roy? :lookaroun

But it was still funny! :animwink:

Anyhoo... I will say that i still think the CircleVision concept is cool, but really only suited to attractions (like China and Canada in Epcot) that utilize it for touring places at a relatively slow pace. I love the breadth of the view in the China film

Unlike COP (which I love, and which I believe should have a special place in WDW -- and was personally designed by Walt with his futuristic city already in mind), the Timekeeper is really not my favorite. I could take it or leave it. I would be willing to see this space updated with another cool Tomorrowland-themed attraction (like they did when the updated the Mission to Mars and totally retooled the same space to be "ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter" -- a great retrofit).

Everyone knows that this attraction was nothing but a flop from the start! They just had to keep it because they knew that they didn't have enough money to demolish it and start over! Now that they have 2 flops right next to each other they better get a clue and get rid of it....FAST!
