I liked Shrek, and I like Disney movies. I like all good quality movies. There's no certain "formula" that I stick with. (Although I think Monsters Inc deserved the award for best animated picture that year)

Heh, I assume you're referring to an animator here, tho I'm no historian in the area, so I couldn't say who...at any rate, I meant the version of the character that the Diz Co. has adopted as their own, with due credit to any individuals, Uncle Walt or others, who brought her about.

And I agree with you about taking quality over formulas...I'm no company line guy. If I like it, I like it, regardless of the logo flashed at the front. I just didn't think Shrek was that good; I didn't hate it by any means, but it just didn't really affect me one way or the other.

lol, it didn't really matter, I just thought I'd throw that out there. I just got done reading about Marc Davis in a book. He animated the stereotyped sassy Marilyn Monroe type Tink from Peter Pan. Its funny because he admitted he was unpleased with how they changed her egotistical, enrageable image from the movie to the more "friendly, welcoming" character Walt wanted for the Disneyland TV show.

Sorry for the thread drift, this didn't have much to do with anything, just thought it was interesting :)

It is...

yeah, Tink definitely seemed to slide down the bee-yotch scale once she became a TV star.

Um... Speedo Bob... I have been to all of the Orlando area theme parks numerous times, and I can honestly say that I have never seen a guy strip down to just a speedo on ANY water ride. I never even head of it. I have seen women running around and going on water rides with t-shirts on over bathing suits, but they would be long and not be that much of a problem. I can see where the Universal Team Member was coming from in telling you to put them back on. They were probably concerned with possible backlash in NOT saying anything. Just because you don't have a problem with it, doesn't mean other people won't either. And those are the people who complain to Guest Relations. The Team Member was covering their own behind on that one.

Which is smart in my personal opinion.

I liked Shrek but I didn't think it was nearly as good as the press it got. I didn't even buy the DVD (and buy a lot of DVDs).

Something was just missing that made it fall flat for me. I don't mind the Disney parodies, I thought the scene in the forest where they are rounding up the fairy tale characters was hilarious (especially the Pinocchio part). But on the whole I thought Monsters Inc. was much better.

And I am not really excited by the prospect of a sequel but I am sure I will go see it.

It did well becuase it was a good, fun, original, creative movie with a unique story, and didn't resort to cutsey songs and singing animals, and it appealed to both adults AND kids. But you keep living in your Fantasyland :)

Right on, I knew I wasn't the only one that felt that way! If Shrek 4-D is anything like the movie or anything like all the other Universal attractions, Spider-Man being the one exception, then we can expect a totally mediocre, boring, cheap, rip off answer to the superiority of everything at Disney. And yes Spider-Man is pretty cool but one good ride spread over two parks doesn't equate to much.

yea i agree with Spiderman being a great ride...but if Universal needs Disney bashing to stay alive...thats pretty sad....they should start to think of their own ride/show ideas.....and not copy Disney....even though their copying skills are bad too....

I think Universal has a number of good attractions....
I liked Dudley Do Right, even though the actua structure of the thing is pretty similar to Splash Mountain (seems to have the same types of drops in the same order), but theme wise I thought it was very creative and original (and fun!). I liked Popeye, too, and the Cat in the Hat was cool. Rollercoaster fans sould love Dueling Dragons and the Hulk, too.

:lookaroun:

I don't know but it looks like one of those giant 'Disney versus Universal' debates that cause threads to get closed.

Let's try and keep this logical... at least to an extent.

Did you read the post right above yours?

Anyways, I guess the same mentality some people say they use for movies applies for attractions. If it's good, I couldn't care less which park it is in. What, you're gonna tell me Disney invented the Tea Cups, Dumbo, 3D movies? Please! And Back to the Future is a total rip-off of Body Wars. Oh, and those ________________ at Hollywood copied the Indy Stunt show!  :hammer:

Also, as a lot have been saying lately, SOME Universal employees have been showing a better show than many CMs. I have been around here for about a year and a half, and I've been hearing Rob complain about this for about as much time. He's always saying how Disney should stop and consider carefully who they're hiring.

Truth be told, this is a Disney site, so we're all a little biased. But if the competition is showing better moves, we should acknowledge it. I haven't been to Shrek yet, but I've heard both good and bad reviews. In the end, we all have personal opinions. If I write here that Disney is evil and CMs eat babies for lunch, are you gonna stop going? Think about it and, as Kicker said, let's all keep this civil. ENough of the "you're so dumb, it's obvious you're wrong because I'm right" attitude.

But again what do I know.

I used to work at Universal. I'm not usually one to take offense to things that people say...but that's a little rude for you to say that. You can find the same at Disney as at Universal. When I worked at E.T everyone who worked there at the time tried to do the best they could and make each guest happy when the ride was working and try to make them a little better when the ride was down. I don't see to many CM's that actively walk through the queue when a ride is down or do the hokey pokey with kids, just to make their day go a little faster and little less stress free, but we did.

I'm sorry if there are some employees that are a little rude, but please don't lower yourself to make generalizations about the company as a whole.

By the way I've worked at Universal and at Disney so I've seen both sides of the fence.
