Anyways, I guess the same mentality some people say they use for movies applies for attractions. If it's good, I couldn't care less which park it is in.

That's where you and some people differ. I can't speak for everyone but as for me, originality means alot. I would not pay another dime to go to Universal or IOA because there is nothing there that isn't done better at Disney. It's all a rip off, and a poorly done rip off at that, of Disney. Why go somewhere when the makers aren't going to put any effort to provide something special, new and exciting or at the least bit, original?

i agree 100%....it is a rip off....because they are copied rides......they need their own ideas.....

tomman710,

Speaking of originality, I love your signature! How smart and childish are you to put Universal Sucks! in your signature. Just a thought before you go ranting about being "original".

Sorry to everyone else, I don't mean any offense, but I just could't stand it when people do not give any credit at all to Universal and some or the originality it has presented in some of it's rides and the theming and design of their parks. Obviously many people disagree with your opinon tomman710 since Disney has finally seen the need to put more thrilling rides in their parks to keep up with Universal, i.e. Mission Space, Mt. Everest and even Rock'n'Rollercoaster.

What it comes down to is that with the way that the economy is going both parks need each other to keep going.

I've just about had enough of this discussion board, but then again I guess there is no way to discuss the Universal/Disney debate in a civilized manner on a WDW site. When people start getting a little unruly, so to speak, I turn that way to. That's my fault I'm not afraid to admit it, I just can't believe what some people say.

These people aren't attacking you personally. They're not. There's no reason to get defensive. There isn't. If you don't want threads like this to grow, then don't reply. By adding fuel to the fire, you don't become the solution. You are the problem.

This is nuts

Come on people! I am a Disney Fanatic!!! I go all the time and I only STAY on Disney property. However, Universal is a fun day trip and so is IOA. The Disney and Universal parks are different. Who cares if rides are copied? It's done all the time!!! How many roller coasters get bigger and better as years go on. These two parks are great competion. Universal doesn't have that "Magic" that Disney has and it never will but it's a fun place to visit and I'm no ashamed to say we have fun when we go there. Would we stay two weeks there like Disney? Hell no, but would we try one or two nights there, maybe. You can't compare apples and oranges and that's what your doing! It's like comparing Six Flags to Busch Gardens......their fun also but everyone has their own tastes. I for one will always love Disney and my heart is there all the time but for a change of pace: Why not Universal. Be fair to both parks!

Personally I like both parks, Universal and Disney. Of course , Disney World has been around since the 70's, so naturally they are going to have rides that are more beloved and considered original. Yet, some of their rides are based upon old fair rides with a bit of a touch up. Tea Cups- Tilt a Whirl. Splash Mountian- pretty sure that wasn't the first flume ride. Now don't get me wrong I love Disney, but not every ride is going to be an original, that's just nature. And sure there are originals at Universal, anyone ever hear of Spider Man? Used borrowed technology of other rides, combined them and made an original ride. If it's fun I'll ride it, and have no second thought of if it was original or not. I'm from Ohio, and one of my favorite parks is Cedar Point. I go two or three times a summer, and just about everything they have is a bigger, faster version of something else. Are they held accountable for that? Nope, they are considered one of the best parks in the country. So please take some time and think about the big picture, before we try to bash something else. I like Disney better in the long haul, but that's my opinion, and honestly I think that Cedar Point can take em both on!!! :D

I know how you feel, I probably need a vacation from this board also. I'm tired of the constant hatred for Universal and all the stupid things some people can say. I could say "Disney sucks" but why should I "stoop to their level", people blame Universal for "stooping so low to diss Disney" yet they turn around and do something just as bad. Sorry if this is the post that closes the thread but I am sick of hearing about Universal not being original or copies or whatever new lame excuss they have for their unconditional hatred.

I don't know what a lame excuss is. :brick:

I will have to agree with kennyj29 above. I got into it and I let people get to me when I should have realized that it is comparing apples to oranges. Universal and Disney are not really in the same league, so they do not warrant even being compared. I believe someone in another one of these Universal vs. Disney debates said it best when they said something like, Universal is an amusement park and Disney is a way of life or lifetime experience like no other, or something like that. So I guess I got out of hand I apologize but it does get old when people keep saying Universal is "competing" with Disney when they really are no competition nor should the even be compared. It's like saying let's compare roller blades to a Ferrari. They both are forms of transportation but clearly have no business being compared. So I am done and I apologize for furthering the argument.

My $.11 ......

I've never been to Universal, i'd like to go but I'd also like to go to CP and maybe MM. And since i dont live in Cali, Ohio or Florida, it would cost more money then i want to spend to go there. If i'm going to drop Two Grand on a vacation to a theme/amusement park, i'm downright going to WDW. I dont want to go to Universal *THAT* bad. Now i'm not going to bad mouth Universal because of it, they've got some great coasters (or so i've heard) that i'd love to try, but its not local. Its not convienent. And when i go to WDW, i just want to enter another state of mind/world and not reenter reality until its time to go home. And Universal has too much of the real world in it for me.

Of course, hopefully somone will tell me if the mummy ride has patricia velasquez on it....

Ok, I have been to Disney and Universal, and I have seen a wide range of different attitudes from CMs. I, personally, rarely have ever had a bad experience with a CM at either park. The only times maybe it was because of a simple accident, and accidents happen, so I don't maind that.

I guess what I really want to say is, don't let some people who don't do their job right act as a stereotype for all of the employees of their company. Even if the majority of people at a park are lousy employees, how do you think those that do a good job of keeping or at least trying to keep the customers happy feel? THis is why I hate it when people say "those Disney/Universal CMs suck", because it is an unfair label to give to everyone that works there.

I'd also like to say the same for fans of either park, like those that post on this web site. Please don't develop a hatred of all Disney/Universal fans just because some of them don't have respect for others or show a lack of maturity in their posts.

As for copying attractions....If someone can find a way to make an older attraction or type of attraction better with new, different technologies, then that would be very much for the better, I say. DIsney did it with their attractions...I mean, carnivals used to have "dark rides" with story and stuff, but they really stunk and were cheaply put together. Disney took the basis of those dark rides and developed them into today's standard in their category. If Universal can make an awesome alternative to Buzz Lightyear with MIB, then I say thats great!

And the comparison of Mr Toad to Cat in the Hat is a big stretch, to me. That's like saying if a ride is ever developed that has "twists and turns" like Mr Toad it is just a rip off. The presentation of Cat in the Hat and the effects used were very original to me, and even if it was a total rip off of another Disney attraction, it would still be fun to me.

But that's just my opinion. :)

I used to work at Universal. I'm not usually one to take offense to things that people say...but that's a little rude for you to say that.

Why is that a little rude, as i clearly stated in my original post it was what I genuinely experienced. If your that bothered on two ocassions in particular it was with staff at MIB.

I still go to the parks I still love the attractions but its very hard to make up when people traet a family member like an idiot then laugh about it!

Just to clrify my previous statements, I didn't care for it there. I am spoiled by DIsney. I did however say that the Halloween Horror Nights, were fabulous. This year however I am looking forward to trick or treating in DIsney with my boys. There is just a difference between a park for good family fun and a park for adults. It's just a difference in personal preferences.

Rude

I have to tell you, I've been to Disney a lot of times and I've been treated rudely a couple of times. As much as I love Disney, And like I said in my previous post, I wouldn't stay anywhere else, they aren't perfect. Everybody has problems here and there in every park. We all have bad days at work and nobody is perfect!!!! I know you expect people to be curtious in all the parks but if you look at it realisticly, someone could have just had a bad time with someone and be a little edgy and all us customers can be very rude to CM's or the like and they have to bite their tongues sometimes. So let's be fair. I've been edgy at work, I'm sure you guys and gals have had bad days at work and the people who work in the amusement park, theme park field do also!

Then again... after the new batch of Disney CM's I've witnessed recently... it makes me wonder if customer service is down in all industries...

I saw a bunch of Stage crew? (CMs at Universal) walking around MIB talking about going to a local movie theater...and then a few CM parking directors inside the big lot smoking...

However, Disney has its own problems, also--- You're bound to see a poor performer at Wonders of Life...kinda upsetting.

I personally have never been to Universal Studios- I am a Disney kind of girl. What hurts the most about this whole Shrek show is them making fun of Tinkerbell. Why did they have to go and make fun of Tinkerbell?

Some consider that to be their brand of entertainment and will pay handsomely to recieve it. To each their own....
