This is just a rumor-

I've heard that Tiana's Showboat Jubilee might get extended past the original January closing. Maybe like for 6 weeks???

Also-The Tiana and Naveen meet n greet has been very very popular with guests. This is a good sign!:)

This movie is going to be a huge merchandise hit. There was an article that I was reading on the subject on Access Atlanta. Read Article Here Basically, it's not the kids already pushing to have Princess Tiana stuff, it's the mothers that are clamoring for merchandise to give to their daughters. I can totally understand the psychology behind it. I am glad that Disney is finally providing a new Princess, that just happens to be African American.

I am super excited about seeing Tiana and the rest of the characters next month. :sohappy:

Do we have to inject 'race' into everything? She is just a good looking princess as all princesses at Disney are.

Do I have inject race into everything? No

Does the issue of race come into play when speaking to the potential super overblown merchandise success of this movie? Yes

I can totally understand parents wanting to give their daughters baby dolls that are the same or very similar skin tone to their own. It's normal to want to see yourself mirrored in the world around you, especially when you are a child. The concept of fairytale princesses isn't one that exists in the African American/black community, which I didn't realize until I read the article. I guess Cleopatra was an African queen and that was good enough. ;)

However, in the world of Disney, princesses do exist. The world is a very diverse place and now the Disney princesses will do a little bit better job of helping to mirror that diversity to the little girls of the world. For all of those little African American/black girls, there will finally be a princess that looks like they do. I am glad that Disney has taken this leap and I am glad to know that there are lots of little girls that will only know a world where there is an African American/black princess and a world where there is an African American/black president. It gives those kids more room to dream and their parents more reason to hope for their children to have a brighter future with less struggles to overcome.

For the record, I am your basic 40 something white lesbian. I have no kids, but I am an aunt to a dozen nieces and nephews, two of which just happen to be African American/black. Our niece is pregnant with a baby girl right now. We have already called dibs on taking her to Walt Disney World for her 4th birthday in 2014. Our first stop will be the MK and yes, we will gladly spoil her with a princess makeover at BBB. I have no idea what princess that she might chose to be made over as, but I am thrilled that she will have the option of being made over to look like Princess Tiana, who she will probably be the mirror image of. I can't wait! :D

They should extend if they can and it still draws a crowd. If I were to be down there I for one would have checked it out.

I hope they extend it, especially if it means extension over at Disneyland. It's going to be an even better show over here. :)

Just extend it through April and I'll be able to see it!

Why is it that whenever someone mentions someone's race people immediately cringe and are afraid to have a civil discussion?

It's ok to mention someone's race. It's not ok to disparage someone because of it.

Living in a 'blended family' I find it one more way to keep the racism alive instead of moving into a color blind civilization. The sooner we remove all references to 'race' other than the 'human race' the better off we shall be.

You're probably correct. But at the same time, I think we're 2-3 generations away from that, so I don't understand the cries of racism when none is really prevalent. It's a boy who cried wolf scenario and it deflates legitimate claims of actual racism.

:ROFLOL:

It's the exact SAME show.

Sometime's I think DL fans just need to toot their horns a little too much especially on topics they shouldn't toot over.
