Tiana's Riverboat Party with Festival of Fantasy Parade viewing coming soon

Wouldn't you think that "maybe" they would have figured that out before charging all those people $49? And it's my understanding that it pretty much smells like a sardine cannery up there because of the Harbour House proximity.

Mmmmmm....fish and ice cream. Sounds like a pregnancy craving. :joyfull:
You would think step 1 in the planning would've been to stand up there with a Mickey's Premium Bar and see the view.

You're assuming that any sort of thought is being put into these recent uncharge events, which is clearly not the case.

Just watched a video from the first event. Tiana gives you an autograph card. Embarrassing.
Does this mean she can't even be bothered to sign autographs? If my kid loved Tianna and was given a card, I would be really po'ed especially after paying for a M&G.

So, are we filing this under "Good concept, bad execution" with the tents and the parking lot food cart? That's three things in a row, Disney, c'mon.
I don't think so. I think this was a bad idea and a bad execution. The greed is astounding! The management doesn't even evaluate the feasibility of a money grab prior to implementation. Is WDW on the edge of bankruptcy? they are certainly acting like it.

Here's a review and I think it was way too generous. Obviously, the author is worried about being invited back for another exclusive event:

What I thought was interesting was management attended the party and were commenting about the parade viewing. Now wouldn't it have been a better idea to evaluate the plan prior to the party debut? Duh! If I were part of the team who had dream this up, I'd be embarrassed. Hell, I'm embarrassed for them!

I think this would be a fun idea if a) it didn't cut into prime boat time, and b) the event was worth the price. If this happened at night, with a different narrative (I'd love to see Tiana, Naveen, Louie, and Dr. Facilier tell the story of the movie), sure, sign me up (this is coming from someone who goes to Disney on a budget). However, this looks like a lazy offering. Tiana & Naveen should not be passing out autograph cards. This should not be taking place during the parade, not just because you can't see the parade from the boat, but because it's taking away the opportunity for guests to ride the Riverboat.

That being said, at least the desserts look good.

Disney desserts always look good, but the ones I've tasted have been a real Meh. Well, except for the gingerbread shingles sold at the GF. Now those were Blech!

Wait, which came first? The Monorail Theme Dinner or the parking lot food cart? Because the Monorail theme dinner seems to not be bad like the tent city and the back nine food cart.

So it may be 2 bad, 1 good, 1 bad. So not 3 strikes per se.

My belief is that this, the parties, the early morning entry breakfast... they are response to the money issue that has been caused by certain construction projects. Disney management has asked everyone to reach deep into their imaginations and come up with ways to help make the company money that will not impact how the parks and resorts function. There most likely is some sort of incentive there for the employees to make a buck if their idea pans out. For this particular idea, it seems as though someone reached into their commode, shook it off what they found there, sprayed it with a bit of cologne and it was mistaken by Disney for being a magical sh...umpthing.

I'm pretty sure this is simply a test and if the idea takes off and becomes popular, I can see them constructing a pleasant and air quality controlled units in all the lands that will fit thematically. This being a tent, you'd think it would have been over by Dumbo's circus. :D

We're all so quick to blame Shanghai. Are we really so sure this isn't about burying all the cost overruns from MDE?

Oh boy. Okay, let's sort this out.
  • Refugee Tent City
  • Monorail Theme Dinner
  • All Stars Pizza
  • Parking Lot Food Cart
  • Tiana's Riverboat
Tent City was first (right?), then the hotel bus stop pizza, then the food cart, then the 'parade viewing', and the Monorail dinner party opens on Friday.

The three biggest offenders (at least to me) are the cabanas, the food cart, and the Riverboat party. The cabanas look cheap, and this option for privacy shouldn't have become available until rooms were built somewhere hidden in the park. The food cart, while not the worst thing Disney has done, also looks cheap (and the price they're charging for chips is ridiculous). The Riverboat party is what I'd call a failure, plain and simple. From the autograph cards, to the parade views being laughable, to cutting time for regular guests to ride, it's not good.

The bus stop pizza looks better than what's being served at Pizzerizzo (and a better deal), and I don't think we can judge the Monorail party until it happens.

I think the upsells are caused by MDE and the sale of DVC's slowing. For years DVC was bundled into theme park revenue, but it seems that the well is beginning to run dry. I think it's strange that Disney continues to build revenue generating offerings without bothering to give anything back to the WDW guests. Yes, ROL, Pandora, SW, and Pixar are coming, but WHEN?
I think the current directive is: If it doesn't produce revenue: delay, stall, delay. But the thing is, attractions produce revenue because people want to see the newest attraction.

General admission revenue must be put in another pot the way it's completely overlooked. I think so many board posters must be AP holders who forget how much some people pay per day to actually just be there.

I understand how these cash grabs are a bit overwhelming and sometimes down right baffling. That being said, no one is holding a gun to your head to partake in them. If some people want to spend their money on these "upgrades" then so be it. I wouldn't personally but I'm not going to deter someone else from doing so.

Buy yourself an ice cream on Main Street, grab a spot to watch the parade, and bam, you just saved 40 dollars. Problem solved for the deterrents of this cash grab.
