IMHO it's ok. Not as good as what it replaced, but it has its brighter moments such as the queue, fake radio station queue background music and the garden at the top of the lift which had been a very empty space before consisting of only the dead tree with a small house hanging from it. Way too many interior dark spaces and IMHO not having Mama Odie more prominent is a complete waste as she's the "moral guide" that Tiana ignored to her detriment.

I just watched a ride through of the Disneyland version. I think it's much better paced to than the Magic Kingdom version, and there is a lot less dead space due to it being the smaller attraction. I also think because the log flume moves so fast, the "there's no story, it's just positive vibes" aspect works a lot better.

I always preferred the Magic Kingdom version of Splash Mountain to the Disneyland version because I thought Magic Kingdom did a better job telling the Brer Rabbit story, whereas the Disneyland version was too rushed to fully enjoy it. But since the story of Tiana's Bayou Adventure is its weakest aspect, this actually turns into a blessing in disguise.

The loss of Splash Mountain at Disneyland is less felt for all these reasons, plus there are more rides in general in DL.

The Disney of old would have put far more effort into customizing the retheme for WDW, as they did with Splash originally.

So, would we have been better off with the original plotline about Louis chasing after his trumpet?
I think people would still complain about the plot being too simplistic, but at least in the lost trumpet hypothetical, Naveen and other human characters could have been better incorporated.

The problem is that the ride system was inherently built to accommodate a moment of tension, something neither plot presumably would have offered.

They could’ve kept Splash’s storyline but done a character swap and it would’ve been 10x better than what we got. Tiana and Naveen (Brer Rabbit) go searching for a secret ingredient (laughin place) that only grows in the ‘dark bayou’ only to be perused by the ghost of Faciler (Brer Fox and Brer Bear) wanting revenge as they leave home in search of this ingredient. Faciler eventually catches them (Burrows Lament) and turns them (and us) into frogs before Mama Odie wards off the shadow man and transforms all of us back into humans with the final drop. Finale could’ve stayed as is.

Something like this could’ve fit the mandates. (Tiana’s Foods storyline, takes place after the movie, Tiana is a human during 99% of it)

I think Disneyland's is even worse honestly. The vast reduction in the amount of figures (which was already a problem at WDW) is even more glaring at DL due to the sheer number that it had and are now gone and leaving empty space. And the environment detail IMO is a noticeable step down from our variant too. There appears to be an even greater amount of dark empty space and comparatively less foliage in some areas too. Here's an example-

The Tiana's Foods banner atop the second lift is also somehow even more ugly and inappropriate than WDW's-

The staging in Disneyland's version is extremely crammed due to the layout of the attraction. While MK’s has much more fleshed out show scenes and larger figures to fill that space, DL’s were very narrow and the figures were much smaller. Tiana’s attempts to cram larger figures where the smaller figures stood.

The worst offenders are the Rara Band, which is crammed into the corner where Br’er Rabbit and Turtle were and the Tiana and Louis scene before the dip drop, which is crammed where the giggling Br'er Rabbit was.
