Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Something I forgot to mention, I took a peek behind the cheap looking wall they've installed at the exit (just behind the parked car).

All of this wonderful theming, etc. is still back there. Before:

Not a photo I took, but just sharing it for reference so some folks who've never seen past it know what is back there.

It's really a damn shame they're going to let all of that go to waste. The best they could do was cover it up with what will always look like a temporary fence and a crappy looking car? For Arceus' sake it doesn't even FEEL like a driveway or a natural parking spot with that ugly fence around it.

Just rode today and...the videos do it justice.
I rode for the first time in December and this approximates the reason I decided to skip posting my thoughts here. On the one hand I was feeling too let down to make the effort. On the other hand is, there really much more to say at this point? I can muster a few positives. The outside turn at the front of the attraction is improved by its bayou setting. The finale is also as lively as it should be, though it throws the sparser portions of the attraction into the spotlight. Using the 'Dip Drop' and final drop as visceral aspects of the magic that shrinks and restores us is a nice touch. Beyond that I suppose all we can hope for is an upcoming round of improvements, similar to what DCA's Little Mermaid received.

This is criminal. And that God Awful fenced off car. Why? So awkward. I have no idea what they re going for. It’s like they felt that just having an old car will somehow help the place making and yet if you re going to have it placed like that you re better off not having it at all.

They should have re-themed what was there at the exit into the makeshift stage and dressing rooms they ended up putting in Louis' Critter Corner. All the little doors that said "Reuse, Recycle", etc. could have been different dressing rooms with Critter names and the boxed structure held up by two sticks could have easily been made to look like a makeshift stage, sort of like what we see behind the counter in the shop. Slap some posters all around it for fictional, future performances and you're solid.

But nah. Crappy fences all around!

Wow. Shocking that they wouldn't try to erase this great theming completely.

This would have been great. I’m guessing what happened was they ran out of money. So they hide that area with an ugly temporary fence. Then thought ok let’s put the car there. This or they came up with the plan to put the car their in conjunction with decision to not spend money retheming that area. But wait, we have to fence off the car or people will climb on it or destroy it and voila! Awkwardly placed fenced off car in front of Home Depot temporary fence. Never mind the fact that it looks awful or makes no sense.

It would look better without the fenced off car there.

It would have made a great location for a garden where everyone is welcome. I guess they felt it was important to show how Tiana's products are transported from the authentic co-op salt mine to US Foods.

Finally got to ride Bayou last night, after putting it off for weeks in defiance of the reskin. Was decked out in my Splash hat and shirt, so got a couple of dirty looks from the Cast Members. What can I say that hasn't already been said? This reskin is completely devoid of passion. Absent of any substance. I'm still not sure what the narrative is even supposed to be. The loss of the Burrow's Lament scene was especially horrifying. What was once a seamless transition from fun and carefree to ominous and suspenseful was reduced to a tunnel of nothingness. If their intention was to disgrace the very soul of this ride's predecessor, they simply could not have done a better job.

I’ve heard similar stories. Obviously if you re wearing a Splash Mountain hat and shirt to ride Tiana you are making a statement and that statement is that you are a racist bigot… or at least that’s what the naive sheeple have concluded.

I remember back when I was working there, I rode Splash many times with friends who were/are CM's. Once the retheme was announced a few started talking about how it was 'problematic and always has been'.

Of course there wasn't a hint of that just months prior.

It's tragic, isn't it?

I rode for what was probably my 6th time last night, and I gotta say it’s really beginning to wear off on me. First time experiencing this I went in blind on its first operating day, so things were alot more exciting/fresh in my mind. I’d hoped this would grow on me but it seems to be having the opposite effect. Doesn’t help when my family members who are very casual park goers are unimpressed, and even admit to preferring Splash.

If this thing was a home run, you’d see even longer lines at night when everyone wants to stay dry, because clearly there must be something inside worth seeing. Now I won’t go to lengths to say this is the worst thing ever produced by WDI, it’s
not even that terrible, but it’s just so underwhelming in so many ways. After 6 rides I should be clamoring for more, but this thing just makes me depressed knowing what was lost.

I seriously hope they take everyone’s advice and spruce this thing up. Adding the America Sings AAs back in here would really boost this thing imo. I’d retool the entire Laughin’ Place/Burrows Lament to a darker bayou section leading into a cave where Facilier is hiding, and bam, there’s your true bayou adventure.

It also doesn’t help when half the AAs aren’t functioning properly. The audio even seems to be quieter in some spots, although Splash had a similar issue towards the end but wasn’t as big a deal when the tonal shifts are more obvious/better executed overall

The only thing I disagree with here is that I strongly believe this is the worst thing ever produced by WDI, since the lousy experience is accompanied by what it cost the park. The amount of Disney and Disneyland history thrown in the dumpster and replaced by this steaming pile of garbage will take the park decades to recover from, if ever. That whole corner of the park is going to be worse off for the foreseeable future.

Really miss the music in the surrounding area too. I’m an audio guy so (like many of us) a big part of my connection to Disneyland is through the music and sounds. Then over at DCA the ethereal ghost like Jazz music got replaced over by TOT with the Avengers theme on a loop 😔. Criminal.

You can't take a song with 60 years of emotional value like Zip a Dee Doo Dah, chuck it, and replace it with a generic pop song. It's asinine. So much of Disneyland depends on the nostalgia and connection to the films and music that's ingrained in American culture. Zip a Dee Doo Dah was second only to When You Wish Upon a Star.
