Tianas place is long overdue for a Disney park, its theme would fit better in DL but DL already has several restaurants serving southern fare…
It wouldn’t surprise me if Disney decided to add some PatF flare to one of the existing eateries. They could start with French Market. The current food is good, but it could be better.

While Runaway Railway shouldn’t have replaced Great Movie Ride, I find it very charming, sweet, and quite fun.
Fair enough.

Personally, I will always find this Ren and Stimpy incarnation of the Fab Five to be grotesque, hypocritical, shrieking parodies of everything previous generations of artists established over decades. In this take on the characters, every single one of them is portrayed as a brainless idiot.

Except for Pluto. I’ll admit MaMRR’s Pluto is cute beyond belief. Then again, maybe I just feel sorry for him after witnessing Idiot-version-of-Minnie kick him into the car trunk in the preshow.😃

I love the new shorts and find the characters to be endearing as well as funny. They’ve breathed new life into a long-dormant genre.

I’m glad you get enjoyment from them. As far as breathing new life into animated short MM films, I just wish they’d kept more on course in the direction of Runaway Brain and House of Mouse, both of which I think did a great job of updating the characters (subpar House of Mouse tv animation aside) or Get a Horse, which had so much fun playing with the early b&w style.

I love Get a Horse and think the new shorts (while stylistically very different) do a great job of continuing the sense of zaniness it recaptured from the early era.

1) What about that other insider, @WDW Pro, who claimed that Disney announced the retheme out of fear that the demand to get Splash Mountain rethemed would lead to a Disney+ boycott? What about that "friend who knows some people who work for imagineering" who talked to @SuddenStorm back in November 2020 who told them that "with Walt Disney World actively fighting the retheme due to the thematic issues it would cause, which would negate planned savings on duplicating the attraction's set pieces on each coast with both coasts footing the bill for attraction development plus getting two 'new' rides to market for each resort- this retheme is very much not a done deal"? Or all those "insiders" claiming that plans for the Magic Kingdom's retheme of Splash Mountain were scrapped due to Tokyo not wanting to retheme theirs? How are those "insiders" any less trustworthy than @TP2000? And if they're not, why has there been so much conflicting information?

It's actually pretty easy to see now that I was correct.

The blue sky stuff they had for a Tiana redo of Splash Mountain was very sparse. They pulled it out at the height of tensions in the summer of 2020. We can now see that two years later they're still doing "research" trips and planning everything out. They didn't have anything beyond a few concept images. Otherwise what have they been doing for twenty years?

It's obvious they threw this out there as Iger's power was going to Chapek in an effort to protect Disney+ from a potential backlash that could have damaged the company. Two years later they're still trying to finalize what to do. Their announcement wasn't even close to shovel-ready. And now on top of all that, they're hiding comments on YouTube because it's wildly unpopular... plus the budget is far too tight to do anything that will result in a likely success. They need double what is being allotted.

I'd be happy with this. Tiana is often in the vicinity, so this is kind-of a no-brainer. Doesn't seem like it would take much to make it feel more PaTF. Seems like easy low-hanging fruit.
I would rather they change French Market than the Hungry Bear. BUT, I could see Disney going after HB, since it is right across from the ride and is "on" the river.

To be honest, I'm in the same boat as Rich T regarding the "new" Mickey shorts. They're one of those productions that seem to subscribe to the theory that having an iconic cartoon character act like a deranged lunatic = instant laughs (see also Robot Chicken and Jellystone!).

I think the main reason people are so crazy about 'em is because they're basically the anti-Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. But it's just one extreme instead of the other.

I like them because I find them charming, witty, and enjoyable. I also like the much tamer shorts that Disney used to make mid-century. Not everything has to be either/or.

I LOVE THE NEW SHORTS!

They are so fun, funny, quirky, charming. Great for kids but also great for adults like me.

Adore them. I love that they used that style for M&MRR, which I find to be an equally charming ride and will be an amazing fit in Toontown!

You don’t buy that multiple (if not hundreds of) people could separately come up with the same very obvious re-theme idea? It happens all the time. “I think they should turn [ride] into [newer property with the same setting],” is Baby’s First Imagineering Pitch. I’ve thought it, I’m sure others here thought it too, and Frederick Chambers wasn’t the first. His petition just made the news on a slow news day.
Let's not forget that during the time of the PATF gofund me poll that oh so many people here thought was the reason this overlay was happening, there was also a poll for a Kuzco overlay of Splash Mountain that was gaining traction.

Point is don't take any bit of coincidences with armchair imaginnering and disney creating something similar as "PROOF DISNEY LISTENS TO POLLS" or anything like that.

You and I have very different definitions of “charming” in this case.😄 But it would be a strange world if everyone liked the exact same things all the time, and I’m a grouch.

But I do stand by my observation that the newer cartoon style has run its course, the ride will look a bit dated in that respect when it opens at DL, and going with a more classic look would have made the ride more timeless.

I agree with all of this and yet still find myself anticipating the new attraction. It almost feels like we’re getting something original and Non IP. I also find the “new” shorts entertaining and I like that some episodes pay homage to Disneyland and the classic animated films

I find it funny people call the new cartoons crude and off brand for Mickey, it's like they've never seen the old cartoons from the 20s/30s. Animal Abuse and anger issues galore.

I don't like the new shorts either but the clean sanitized Mickey most people know isn't the original Mickey.

While this belongs in the MMRR thread, I personally don't think that style has run its course yet. They are still releasing new episodes of the shorts, as well as specials, on D+.

And just to add to that, while I know that some don't like the use of screens and projection technology. MMRR use it of allows them to change out the various "rooms" easily making its an attraction that can be updated as they see fit. Now whether they do that or not will remain to be seen.
