Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

While I'm still avoiding ride-specific spoilers, it does sound like they didn't adjust the splash/wetness levels at all for the DL version when they redid it into TBA.

I'm sure that's a win for some, but not for me.

Granted, there's probably only so much they can do with the different logs and flume configuration vs. MK and Tokyo, but still. I really hated how wet the DL Splash is compared to the others and am bummed that my biggest issue with the OG ride seems to be unchanged.
It's an absolute gurantee I will never ride this version. I went through the hassle of swapping out my shoes for crocs to hear Zipadeedoodah, but I am not doing it for Special Spice.

Eh I had said that until a friend invited me to the employee previews. I decided to suck it up and ride it the one time since a free day at Disneyland is a free day at Disneyland.

Plus, riding during previews doesn't help their ridership numbers.

I think we might actually be reviewing the wrong Tiana's Bayou Adventure. According to Google Maps, it's actually the bathroom behind the LEGO store and this one has 4.6 stars!

No I'm just not doing it. Not unless they fix that drop so it doesn't capsize the logs. There are so many great attractions at Disneyland. Why would I ride one that is crappy AND gets my socks wet for the rest of the day?

The big takeaway here is that in nearly every example a vignette was replaced with something lesser than. A solitary frog playing an instrument or a wall or a screen.
I think the worst of these specific examples is the possum in Burrow's Lament which got replaced with nothing, not even set dressing.
Do you get the sense that the team that worked on TBA were just trying to be contrarian in some ways? Like stick it to the man, old fashioned fans and the Old Disney imagineer line of thinking. Or maybe even like some sort of weird fall back to cover up for the lack of talent. Make “Bold” or unconventional choices and kind of hide behind that. If so, they fell flat on their face.
I highly doubt that, a lot of the decisions made don't really indicate malice to me. Take for example the choice on the most basic level to have the scenes be trigger-activated rather than a loop. That more than anything else tells me that the retheme was designed with modern techniques in mind, not taking into account what the ride system was designed for. So I would say it was ignorance, not malice which doomed the retheme.

You could be right but I have reason to believe it may have been a motivating factor for some working on the project. I don't think you can rule it out.

I didn’t realize that was a thing, I’ve only been to DL’s. I did always dread my socks and shoes getting wet when I wasn’t wearing flip flops on it though, lol.

Undeniably true, but it still doesn't satisfactorily explain to me how this thing ended up so amateurish and sloppy. Most of WDI's recent attractions feel designed by committee, and none are filled with as many rookie mistakes as Tiana.

There's no reason Tiana shouldn't fit as an overlay to Splash & NOS/Critter Country. Should have been a layup.

I think we need a list of what the ‘rookie mistakes’ are.
Would be good to get a list together for conversation purposes, and I am generally interested in what others find to be in that category.

So let’s hear it, folks!

What elements do YOU feel are ‘rookie mistakes’ on ‘Tiana’s Bayou Misadventure’….?

Not trying to be a jerk…just generally interested in what others would consider falling into that category.
Have at it.

I understand you weren't trying to single them out, but considering how this post is formatted this is very hurtful.

@TheCoasterNerd that you? I'm sorry that people in this community treat each other this way.

Not singling them out at all as stated and just pointing out a trend that has been on Dis Twitter for a long time where people use very strong adjectives to describe normal construction progression.

If people want to find a construction wall or a painted door AMAZING that's their opinion, I just don't share it and admittedly find it humorous, not out to hurt anyone, especially someone from here which means they are extra cool.

Yeah. TBA makes me realize I've been giving WDI a pass for years. They've done some exceptional projects recently, like (IMO) Rise of the Resistance. And they've done very poor attractions, like Incredicoaster and Web Slingers. But those poor attractions just haven't really mattered to me, so I've looked the other way (aside from some snarky complaining online).

Can't look the other way when they massacre one of the greatest attractions of all time...
I know what you mean. I try not to be negative when it's a place I enjoy but they've taken away a lot of experiences and replaced them with things that are inadequate.

Is there even ONE thing in your mind that they ‘got right’…??

🤣

Well there are varying degrees of right. Right as in perfect? Earlier I said the only scenes that I think are true Disney/ WDI level quality is the Mama Odie rollercoaster drop and effect as well as the finale. Not perfect or better than what preceded them but the only scenes that don't stand out as amateurish in some way. To me, any interior scene outside of these two has moderate to major issues.
