Did you change your name from something else?
Yep, I'm formerly known as Imagineer97! Your fellow once-banned Disney purist! After D23, I took a look in the mirror and realized I was Disgruntled Walt. And so I remain. Until the day I am gruntled once again.

But TBA is a big reason for my disgruntling in the first place.

I think we need a list of what the ‘rookie mistakes’ are.
Would be good to get a list together for conversation purposes, and I am generally interested in what others find to be in that category.

So let’s hear it, folks!

What elements do YOU feel are ‘rookie mistakes’ on ‘Tiana’s Bayou Misadventure’….?

Not trying to be a jerk…just generally interested in what others would consider falling into that category.
Have at it.

Well, a big one is that the entire 'story' is told to the riders, not shown. None of the set pieces visually further the story. They just exist for Tiana or Odie to tell us the next step of the story. The best attractions read visually.

The story of the attraction doesn't fit the ride. The story should exist to enhance the experience of the ride, in this case it's a hindrance. It would be better suited for something the scale of a 1950's Fantasyland dark ride.

Removing the tension and danger of the big drop. Before it was this rabbit will get killed and turned into rabbit stew. Now it's You're gonna make a splash at the party!!
I think most people see through useless platitudes, like a rider being the 'special spice' for a party? Stuff like this makes it feel awfully elementary and fake.

I'll post more as I think of more issues.

Splash was a masterclass in themed design- this is a masterclass in how not to design an attraction.

Lol yes!!! Just put the ride through video on for my four year old daughter for the first time who loves PatF and Tiana. She’s actually wearing some multi princess pajamas with Tiana on them as I write this. As they went up the lift hill with the first Tiana AA I asked her “who’s that?” She kind of smiled (at this point I’m thinking I’m going to be wrong) and then says “I dunno.” LOL. You go WDI. You Go.

Making the final Odie animatronic work on a sensor trigger. The logs naturally backup close to the loading station. Considering this, the former Imagineers designed a sequence you could sit and marvel at for 30 seconds to 2 minutes: the looping Brer Rabbit Zipadeedoodah solo. There's 2-3 minutes of audio for both versions just at this scene.

Mama Odie on the other hand has...maybe 5 lines? And they are all sensor triggered of course! So when the logs backup...she just kinda stands there, slumped over. That figure is never going to work as they intended it. The snake that is only set to trigger for specific lines is even worse.

I know what you mean. I try not to be negative when it's a place I enjoy but they've taken away a lot of experiences and replaced them with things that are inadequate.
My thoughts as well. I think WDI is still capable of great things, such as Rise of the Resistance, Runaway Railway, and Fantasy Springs in Tokyo, but it’s important to hold them accountable when they don’t meet the high standard they’ve created over the years.

The adjectives people use to describe Disney construction is so funny. They're either trying to get on a media list or super fans who think everything is AMAZING and INCREDIBLE.

Not singling this one user out, just talking about Disneyland twitter in general where people will see a wall be constructed by a multi billion dollar company and act like they are seeing Michelangelo paint the sistine chapel.

I was simply saying, it looks quite good. Better than i expected. It looks dimensional, it keeps the charm of the old sign. It doesn't lean too heavy on the bayou, and it reuses the font of the old sign from the looks of it. So, compared to my expectations, yes, it was phenomenal.
I understand you weren't trying to single them out, but considering how this post is formatted this is very hurtful.

@TheCoasterNerd that you? I'm sorry that people in this community treat each other this way.

Thank you, yes. I didn't see the post as I'm not watching this thread so thanks for tagging me. It's worded very hurtfully, but thats the way this community is unfortunately. One person disagrees and suddenly its "you're all awful and the worst and how could anyone ever think like that". Not saying I haven't done it too at times, but it's definitely disappointing.

I just watched it through again, then watched Splash. It was almost sad thinking about these iconic moments that were ingrained in my psyche as a child visiting Disneyland.

I mean nothing on this attraction matches the joy of going down the first drop into the How Do ya Do segment.

Or the tension of the Burrow's Lament then the vultures. Which only works because of how zany and fun How Do Ya Do and Laughin Place was.

Like, the blueprint was there. Fan concepts posted online were better than this nonsense. But instead of just focusing on making a great fun experience for all, they made it this weird blend of an overly convoluted backstory about salt mines and employee owned co ops, and finding bands for a party, and for some reason guests being the spice needed to make the party great, not the bands?

The bottom floor of the attraction is really, really empty. There used to be a lot of depth to the underground cavern: hopping fountains, bees, rodent families, vultures, turtles. Now all they have is three frog figures. The frog figures aren't even that advanced! They shake and bobble in simple patterns! They couldn't add more, this couldn't have been that expensive!

The fountains are gone, other animals are not present, and the use of vines and roots to give a feeling of depth to the caves is gone - replaced by walls with flat leaves stuck to them, the lighting is simplified... which make everything look blank and make it feel claustrophobic and not the least bit lived-in. Even the firefly parade, which should be a pretty cheap projection effect, is limited to one side of the vehicle and the other side is just dark. They couldn't surround the vehicle with this simple effect on both sides when there is ample room for it?

There seems to have been a lot of value-engineering that went on with this ride. The Naveen figure on a boat is nowhere to be found. I just don't understand Disney: why would you release a piece of concept art that is susceptible to being cut from the ride??? It makes it obvious that you cheapened out. Just make sure you release art for a scene that is either for sure gonna make it or make sure you at least ensure that the concept art piece survives into the ride in some form or other. This clearly smacks of marketing didn't talk to show producers and nobody's on the same page.

A lot of this stuff is truly careless and sloppy.

I finally got around to watching FB's video. I can respect David's views on the ride. He and Liz were open to admit they preferred the Laughing Place over what's there now and he also pointed out the completely dark and empty wall on the right opposite the fireflies in the section before the lift hill. He was pretty pragmatic about the rest which is understandable as a vlogger. He pretty much said that while debates will go on for years over this, there's not much that can be done about it and he's just glad there's a running attraction there again.

That said, I did pick up on some things from his video....particularly in the queue, not the attraction itself.

I had mentioned previously that I was impressed they were able to find room in the queue for the kitchen setup. Now I know why. It's at the second floor of the barn which used to be open-to-below, but now has a floor.

Regarding single rider, this wooden door is a faux door:

If you turn right there, there is a hallway that leads toward the exit (on the right side of the CM's head):

This is the reverse shot of that hall:

That used to be a closed CM-only door:

From there on out the route is mostly the same. Here are before and after maps to show the changes:

1729661694439.png

The green is the old way in from the exit of the ride. Wheelchairs stopped where you disembark from the logs, but single riders would follow the pink line over a bridge to merge with the normal guests. I've also marked where the old photo screens were which are now located outside.

New route:

Single riders and wheelchairs go threw the now opened up hallway. They then will still go partially through the exit where wheelchairs still go down the ramp to the logs, but now they've cut open a doorway to fast track single riders directly to the bridge.

This is that new door and the photo screens used to be on the wall behind the CM on the right.

I was going to mention this too, but you beat me to it. I have one word.....unacceptable. Speakers have ALWAYS been hidden. I can forgive the ones in the queue as they are meant to be there broadcasting radio, but this is just really bad show. How about this one?

Just set it anywhere.

I REALLY hope they are temporary, but maybe they are there to distract from these bang up patch jobs...

How about some exposed PVC pipe at the top of the lift hill?

This one (which was already pointed out) takes the cake for me.

Imagineering Leads: Can you guys make a sign that covers up that charming bridge after the first lift hill?
Imagineers: Sure. How big do you want it?
Imagineering Leads: Yes.

Construction worker: Do you guys know there are rocks blocking your sign?
Imagineers: Can you remove them?
Construction worker: That's a lot of work....might set you back a month or two.
Imagineers: Oh....wonder why we didn't see that before.....well.....just slide it to the left a bit and call it a day.
Construction worker: Righty oh!

Okay it’s been a day, I’ve had some more time to process things. Needless to say feeling a little more bummed with the way things turned out. Went home & re-watched a Splash POV, and wow the laughin’ place is just disgraceful now.

No wonder I felt so boxed in and awkward, it clearly felt like there used to be something more in that space. Closing up the center of the room and getting rid of the jumping fountains is just confusing to me, I genuinely expected them to utilize those two elements based on how they handled MK’s.

Not to mention replacing sets of AAs with blank walls and boxing each character in their own space. Unless they’re A-1000s, figures with less movement than spirit halloween props should be layered in with one another. This is why I’m so much more forgiving to the finale & the other sets of critter bands. Limited motion figures look amazing whenever they’re layered into a scene amongst set dressing, just look at IASW.

If every scene featured an A-1000 or two amongst dozens of animated figures (cough, cough, the finale) that could easily raise this attraction to being just as good as SM imo.
