Playful charm replaced with nothing.
It's shocking to me how they didn't add any firefly or Louis figure to the front of each boat. Especially at WDW's version where the rabbit was an emblem that attached to the front and could have easily been swapped out for a new one. It would have been so simple and a nice detail- let's not pretend that Disney couldn't afford it. Just more proof that they didn't care about the details and that the team behind this chose to focus on their all-inclusive political message rather than creating a timeless attraction based on one of the best Disney animated movies.

Does anyone think that all of this negative backlash will cause them to rework the ride?

For WDW, it's too late. I can't imagine they'll do anything out there, and so much of it is already ingrained into the ride already.

For Disneyland? There might be time to add some stuff, or get an emergency team of different designers to redo the queue graphics and plus up some of the weakest parts of the ride. I doubt there's time to add any new animatronics at Disneyland, or change dialogue or music or projections.

At best for Disneyland, I think we might be able to get higher quality graphics and decor pieces, but that's about it.

It's just too late. The cake has already been baked, to use an Employee Owned Food Cooperative analogy.

I don't understand how this happened...they ARE smarter than this. How could they not see this was not a satisfactory ride?

No. Disney/WDI is run by activists now and activists feel very justified in what they do despite backlash. To them, any negativity is construed as hatred, bigotry, racism, or whatever other reason they want to throw at you. As long as you paint those who disagree with you as bad people you will always feel justified in your actions.

The Star Cruiser shut down because it was losing money. People will still ride this because there are few E-Tickets in MK, or because they want to get their money's worth, or simply because it is hot and they want to cool down. Disney will accept that as vindication and go ruin the next attraction.

That's truly the mystery here.
  • This ride was blinked into creation by none other than the CEO himself, Bob Iger.
  • This ride had a lavish budget and approval to go big on both coasts.
  • It had full support of all senior execs as a Very Special Project.
  • It was, and still is, the only ride under active construction on either coast, so it had the pick of the best and brightest from WDI and all their contractors and suppliers to work on it.
  • They allegedly chose their best and brightest senior execs to shepherd the project from the very beginning.
  • They had an inherently entertaining and highly likable existing ride system to work with.
  • They had an IP that was very solid with a nearly endless potential to expand on, or tell the next chapter of that story.
And they came up with... this?

Something is rotten in the state of Glendale, with apologies to Mr. Shakespeare.

Youre right. I would bring up Nemo but technically it replaced a 10 year abandonned ride. I'm glad WDI is getting honest reviews and not typical blogger/media bias fake ones.
Oh yes! Nemo is in rough shape that project tunnel scene, oh man...

Web Slingerz capacity is horrible and ride is boring. Incredicoaster, Pixar Pier, Avenger's Campus all cheapen the Disneyland Experience.

Nemo was my first big attraction disappointment. I was looking forward to it and even passed up on free tickets to the park to instead take advantage of my early entry with the hotel. After still waiting 75 minutes to see it, I felt like I should have taken the free ticket as the ride was not worth $100.
