B.O. Numbers aside, SotS is a very weak film that very few people today could even sit through. PatF is a solid movie that’s been embraced and much-loved via DVD and streaming by Disney’s target audience. The retheme makes sense for DL, and if done well (granted, that’s a big if), could actually make DL’s Splash a better ride.

What does SotS being a weak film have to do with Splash? Most people didn’t even know what movie it was based on until recently and it was still one of the most popular attractions in any Disney park.

I wouldn’t say the retheme makes sense. I’d say the reason for the retheme is ridiculous but if they have to retheme it, few if any properties are more sympatico with DLs Splash than PatF.

You and I both know the odds of this retheme coming out better than Splash are slim to none. Actually the “slim” is too gracious. Let’s just go with none. These are the same people that gave us Pixar Pier recently and now it’s worse. Now they ll be cutting budgets And corners even more because of everything going on. How can this retheme under Chapek while the company is losing billions be better than Splash - a purpose built passion project headed by the greatest second generation imagineer?

I guess the slim to none odds are worth a shot for you since you aren’t a big fan of Splash and you like PatF.

Zip a Dee Doo Dah is as synonymous with the park as When You Wish Upon a Star. It's been a consistent presence for decades- in multiple area loops, and performed by the Disneyland Band a number of times over the decades, and Splash Mountain.

It’s amazing how much this song and ride are synonymous with what the Disneyland experience means to me. To be honest I think the only things that what would sting more would be losing POTC or Mansion. I’d rather lose any of the other themes of the mountains. Matterhorn is historical and I’d miss it but it doesn’t compare to Splash experientially and doesn’t have the songs/ music. The music I feel is where the real emotional connection is made.

So yeah I’d rather have Frozen go in the Matterhorn than PatF go into Splash.

I was mainly responding to a suggestion that since SotS made more box office than PatF, it’s currently a more popular property.

I’m not a big fan of DL’s Splash in its current state—including the drench factor, but it certainly still has tons of charm. I’m trying to be optimistic about the PatF change, because the potential certainly exists to create the best retheme ever... but, yeah, I’m not holding my breath for an Imagineering miracle given the current circumstances.

And removing Zipadeedoodah from the entry music loop is ridiculous. Yet they include “ Love is an Open Door,” an ode to women falling in love with lying murderous psychopaths.

Stop that. Oh well, both rides became nearly unrideable for me after their last vehicle change anyhoo. ☹️

I mean ya think about it. You lose the abominable snowman and the Swiss music/ yodeling in the queue. We already lost the old growl/ scream. You lose so much more with a Splash retheme.

Now if we re talking about knocking down the structures than No. I couldn’t imagine a Disneyland without the Matterhorn.

The tough part about losing Splash (or theoretically the Matterhorn) is that both were bona fide improvements over the dirt they were built on. Neither replaced a beloved classic, and both drastically improved the Disneyland skyline.

And I don't think Modern WDI could improve on either ride. Even the Matterhorn changes have been lateral at best- maybe even a downgrade.

The yodeling and the Abominable Snowman mean as much to me in the big DL picture as Splash Mtn.’s music and characters mean to you. And, yes, it all comes down to which ride I grew up with.

I grew up with both so they are on an even playing field for me. I was 6 going on 7 when Splash opened. And probably didn’t ride until I was 10 or 11. So I actually had been riding Matterhorn for a few years before I rode Splash.

Downgrade for me because we lost the old howl. I like the new AA but hearing those old howls around Fantasyland (esp at night) was great and as vivid as any of my earliest memories at DL.

Splash Mountain turned a quiet, peaceful, wonderful corner of DL into Times Square, and a solid land theme (Bear Country) into a *shrug* theme (Critter Country). But it was worth it—not even a curmudgeon like me can deny that.

And, much as I loved hollow single-sleds Matterhorn, the initial Harold remodel was a huge step forward, turning the ride into a full Fantasyland adventure.

Removing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from the esplanade is ridiculous, but should we be surprised? Honestly. Disney’s been making bizarre decisions over the past couple of years that make some of us strongly question their decision-making process.

This is why I stopped caring. It got to a point where there was only so much ridiculousness I can take. Now I’m numb.

In the end, they’re going to do what they want, whether fans approve or not. They’ve made that very clear.

I’m with you 100%. They’ve made it expressly clear that this property will be the sacrificial lamb. No matter what we think, they don’t need Zipadeedoodah because they now have Bob’s high grossing new franchises and the songs that came with them.

But whatever. They can remove the song from the Disneyland experience, but they can’t take away the song from existence. I’ll be whistling How Do You Do till the day I die.

Exactly. As hard as Disney tries to erase things from their history, they will always be there. What’s the point of removing the song from the esplanade? It still exists and will continue to exist.

I was serious when I said Disney should cancel themselves.

"Disney" needs to cancel being run by stiff-suited businessmen whose sole concern is the stock price and their precious portfolio.
It needs strong creative leadership at the helm, instead of leaders with political aspirations.

Sometimes I have to wonder if the folks at the top would even know what Walt stood for if you gave them a multiple choice quiz and crossed out half of the wrong answers for them.

I just realized this is Disney we're talking and this will be a bad overlay that doesn't do Princess and the Frog any justice. I'm a hater now.
But hey! At least we'll get "instagrammable" food and merch!!!!

Weird they removed those two, but keep in the "Ballad of Davy Crockett" with it's rather un-PC terms for Native Americans scattered throughout its lyrics.

Give it time. I can only presume people making these decisions aren’t sophisticated enough to know the entire Disney portfolio.

The “decision makers” simply haven’t realized how offensive it is yet, and soon they will correct the “offense.“ It truly is too great a burden for today’s modern nihilist when there is so much wokeness and to spread in the world and yet such a wealth of content to destroy and delete from existence forever.

It’s weird that they made the sanitized Splash Mountain their top priority for changes when the “Cannibals” in Jungle Cruise, the Natives in Peter Pan, and Liverlips McGrowl remain currently untouched.

It’s kinda crazy how few people are commenting on the insincerity of this action. Like it’s somehow “enough” or was the main issue all of these years.

Splash Mountain should have been the least urgent thing they needed to address. But it’s going to be the first, and probably only, that they will touch.
