Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

A bayou extension of the Orleans theme would be cool but I can’t see penny pinching Disney spending a penny on either of these areas without an IP to attach to it to sell merch.

What IPs would work as cheap overlays for Pooh and Hungry Bear?

Well, that's true. But maybe they could do some lame Disney+ show about southern swamps or something?

I mean, Disney+ already loses them hundreds of millions of dollars per fiscal quarter, so what's another money losing TV show for them if it means the parks improve? The Parks are the only thing that seems to make them any money now.

Yeah there are some even if they are being drowned out by the majority. Every third post I write gets deleted. A harmless post about a sardine and peanut butter sandwich got deleted today🤷🏻‍♂️

I think my time here is coming to an end. If something isn’t bringing you joy, what’s the point? Plus it’s just not healthy the amount of time I spend on here. I don’t want to delete my profile as I think is the worth keeping for the historical data. Plus I can use it to message a select few people. I’ll probably check back in when we have some actual good news. Like when a Tomorrowland redo is announced. For now ✌️
I'll miss your posts and humor. 'Til the spires... [shudders and questions why he referenced that...]

Looks like something from a preschool classroom, daycare, or a children's ward at a hospital.

I don't like it.
I bet you guys hate this Mickey art in Harambe Market.

I dunno. This place is starting to feel more like Micechat to me. I think it’s the beginning of the end, at least for the Disneyland forum until there is some universal/ objective good news. Quality of conversation has gone way down hill.
Micechat I left because of all the negative people and pixie dusters, vs here everyone had a sense of humor. When I first found this site, on the DL section everyone was adding "Bruh" to their username.

Here's some photos from the WDW thread on this ride that the talented @DCBaker provided, which is dangerous for me because I keep getting confused on which thread is which and post stuff in the wrong thread. But these are obviously WDW photos, so I think it's safe.

And these images are things which will apparently be duplicated for the Disneyland version.

The mural is nearing completion in the queue. This would look great on a school playground, or on a brick wall in the parking lot next to a hipster restaurant. But in Critter Country and Frontierland?

And here's the WDW mountain with the new Employee Owned Tiana's Foods water tower. That part just sends me into gales of laughter whenever I think about it. Just profoundly stupid and needlessly pandering, in my opinion. 🤪 🤣🤪

Wow the tower has a hat? What is this, Hollywood Studios?

That looks pretty bad. I like the mural though, I'm game for more colorful things in Disney parks. Better than the drabness of Galaxy's Edge or Avenger's Campus beige/concrete.

Also for all we know the mural could be planned to be aged or faded before completion to blend in nicely.

…I have to ask, is this ride even supposed to be fun? Or is it a history lesson and Struggle Session for the tourists in the logs?
My hope is that the present focus on history and economic lessons are just a well-intentioned PR misfire conjured up by someone earnestly trying to grab the interest of a mainstream media that generally doesn’t consider log rides newsworthy.

I’m sure the actual experience will be a fun, musical, lighthearted log flume ride. With a mural. 😃 Man, I sure hope so.

They can appease the media personnel who seldom actually ride anything by cramming the whole backstory into a pamphlet handout.

Oh, and… my wish for a Pooh replacement:

Absolutely. When I was a young man, I did a hell off a lot scenic theatrical painting, and a simple low-concentration wash of paint to water selectively painted over this mural could easily change its nature. I've no Idea if that is coming or not, but until it is finished and revealed, neither does any of us.

If it was on Main Street USA, absolutely.

I even made this point earlier in the thread completely unaware there was an actual example to relate it to.
This is a very good point. To add, while I suspect there are painting like this mural in New Orleans, it's important to remember that Disneyland is not a realistic depiction of the world, but a romanticized one based on our ideals and stereotypes. Even though I don't particularly like this art style, if it were on the walls of a restaurant in Animal Kingdom, I'd be much more forgiving given that Animal Kingdom is intended to be a representation of the real world. But for Disneyland? It's out of place.

That's a good point. All this smarmy virtue signaling in the queue is hopefully just a bad PR mistake made by the Junior Varsity squad in a few WDI cubicles. The ride itself hasn't changed, just the scenery and audio we experience has changed while we're on the same 1989 ride.

How badly could they screw that up with such wonderful source material to work with; the distinctly and fabulously American musical and visual fun of Princess & The Frog? The source material is just too good.

I’m sure the actual experience will be a fun, musical, lighthearted log flume ride. With a mural. 😃 Man, I sure hope so.

Agreed. And again, how incompetent and clueless would they have to be to screw this up with the fabulous source material they get to work with on this project?!? Even the cubicle squad obsessing over employee-owned cooperatives and President Wilson's domestic policies can't mess that up.

I have high hopes for this ride overall. I just wish they'd stop releasing pre-opening updates that are nonsensical and pandering.

After these recent misfires, it might be best if Disney just went totally quiet on this one for the next 12 months, and don't say much more until they can show us the actual ride.

Another fantastic point. :)

Disney often goes in and has painters "age" a new paint job all the time, to blend with its themed surroundings.

Adding a hazy white-wash over this playground mural would likely work wonders to making it fit better into its surroundings and rural barn architecture.

Some intriguing insight from Dusty over at MiceChat:

“Tiana’s Foods” continues to transform Splash Mountain into a salt dome. And while none of that sounds exciting in the least, what’s inside will surprise us all. I had the most incredible conversation with a big-wig associated with the project recently. I’ve seen all the public concept art, attended a junket about the attraction, and heard what the leads on the project had to say. So, I know there’s a whole lot more to this attraction than the uninspired signs around the construction site, which read “Tiana’s Foods – Employee Owned.”

When I expressed my concerns in the clandestine conversation, that too much was being said about the setup of the attraction… That Tiana is in search of a missing ingredient, and we are all going on an adventure in the bayou to find it. I was told that I, and all of you, are sort of being played right now. Yes, that’s all technically true, but not at all what you think it means.

What you should know is that the attraction does take place in the bayou, and is going to look gorgeous. It is packed full of whimsical musical figures, lush greenery, and hundreds of fireflies. We’ve already heard that Mama Odie is the instigator of a magical moment that becomes the inflection point of your adventure.

I won’t get anyone in trouble here, but I can’t resist telling you that guests will get the sort of musical grand finale to the attraction that they want. Imagineering is taking full advantage of the massive show building, even more so than the previous version of the ride. Bayou Adventure is installing massive set pieces.

Some intriguing insight from Dusty over at MiceChat:

This tracks with some of what @MerlinTheGoat has said about them upping the budget after the initial reaction to the announcement. I hope Dusty's right and isn't being double-played.

Also, can I just say how weird that is? Why would they deliberately be misleading everyone? Seems like a strange route to take.
