For me, who loved the rugged charm of Bear Country, Critter Country at DL has always seemed like a half baked mishmash (Splash’s outstanding exteriors aside).
Walt wanted the cartoons to stay contained in Fantasyland, an area dedicated to the products of his animation studio. The rest of the park was meant to be about appreciating the wonders of the world around us—past, present & future—as well as hosting tie-ins to his live-action productions.
Times change, and perhaps Walt himself would have been ok with eventually breaking the rule. But Splash can be seen as the first step toward the over-cartoonification of the other Disney parks, lands and attractions that we see around us today.
But with all that said, I still think Tiana stands a good chance of being a terrific Splash update.

I loooove Joy. I noticed she was taking more trips to Disneyland, but it seems she’s got some sort of partnership going on with the company. Good for her. Her voice is perfect for voiceover.

The video reminds me that I hope Disney takes this opportunity to do something far better and more joyful along the railroad tracks approaching NOS regarding the Mardi Gras theme than what they’ve had sitting there for years. Those giant heads plopped there out of context by the tracks have just been creepy.
Bye, tree. Its absence will be very strange. I’ve been seeing it during my Disneyland visits since 1992.

It feels like although Disneyland started later, they are not wasting any time. Also a very different approach with the scaffolding when compared to MK.

Disneyland's conversion definitely requires less work, at least interior-wise.

WDW always seemed like it was designed to look exactly like SOTS with the bright and sunny hillsides as well as the sets and foliage. The DL version always seemed like a generic bayou that just happened to have those characters residing in it.
I haven’t been keeping up with MK’s progress, but I’ve been thinking the same thing. I was genuinely shocked to see “themed” walls up literally the very next day for ours.
WDW had walls up the very next morning after Splash closed.

WDW had walls up the next day as well that's the quickest thing to do since you don't want people going to line up for the ride you just closed. Granted the Tianas food Stickers were added a day or two after the walls went up for some reason, not sure why it took then two extra days for that.
“Themed” walls. I was specifically referring to the artwork on our walls.
