Speaking of WDW, their thread for TBA…whew.

@yensidtlaw1969 Props to you for being one of the very few voices of reason over there.
You're far too kind - I only wish I were surprised by how many people are committed to engaging in bad faith about this ride.

It's entirely possible to be critical of TBA without the histrionics, yet so many seem to be deeply invested in them.

I don't get why people lament the loss of the tree. I fully support making the exterior of this attraction as subtle and unobtrusive as possible. Having the boat on top of the mountain would have looked awful. The real problem is the stupid water tower.

It’s all very childish and even weird, getting that worked up and coming to irrational conclusions over a theme park ride. The hive mind isn’t helping.

Curious, did you see it in person recently?

Nope. I’m making a judgment based on the recent construction photos.

I think my issue is that at first glance it doesn’t quite read as a tiara. The tower actually looks pretty good, but then there’s some unfinished-looking something sticking out the top of it. Maybe if they went a bit more fantastical with the tiara, or if it were more.. filled in? Or colorful?

Gotcha.

My issue is the design of the mountain. Its a set of escalating tiers leading to that focal point of the tree. Without the tree, the mountain leads up to a large flat area without any feature to draw in the eye. It is the problem I have with modern Imagineering. They don't take design into consideration and as long as something doesn't look terrible, its good enough. Take for instance the blacked out area in Mission BO's facade. This isn't an interior set where blacking something out makes is disappear. They used the area for projection a few times, but that's it. Its just a confusing element where they ignored the design in place when trying to shove a square peg into a round hole.

Will the mountain be fine without the tree? Sure. Does it look a little unbalanced and not as iconic? You bet.

When the suits decide to retheme Carsland to Zootopia, they'll keep the Cadillac Ridge, but just put buildings in front of it or paint them sky blue with fake clouds. Cheap and easy is the name of the game now.

Perhaps, but it seems to me like a refreshing attempt to keep the view on theme. Not that there won't be other sightline intrusions out of their control, but I appreciate the effort which seems to have been less important to Imagineers of late. Of course, we'll have to see the constructed tower to know for sure.

I'm going to dissent and say that I actually like the water tower. I especially like how another post pointed out that Tiana reconfigured the sugar mill into her river boat restaurant, so the jazzing up of a watertower fits in her story.

Everybody hates a book report ride until they get a non-book report ride.
I'm indifferent to the watertower at this point. Its not horrific. Its not amazing. I think the crown is a bit on the nose as I don't feel like it fits Tiana or the locale so instead it comes across a bit like the gaudy castle decorations. I'd rather have Ray and Evangeline represented as stars in the "i" and the apostrophe of "Tiana's" as a subtle Easter Egg that fits the locale and story, but its not that big of a deal.

I'm all for a non book report ride, but the ones that work are the ones that focus on an idea or feeling rather than just the characters being seen. Frozen Ever After looks gorgeous, but the ride is bland and one-note since there isn't any conflict or story beats, just a parade of characters we know singing a song we know.

If TBA has its own identity and feeling, then I am for that idea. If its just whimsical celebrations for 6 minutes, which is my fear, then It will be yet another retheme of a great attraction into something that doesn't fit the space it fills.

It seems a puzzling choice, but didn't someone point out that from the riders' perspective it blocks the distant view of Space Mountain?
That would be me. I took the placement on the model and looked at it from a ride-through on YouTube and noticed it conveniently blocked the view of Tomorrowland. Whether this was intentional or a coincidence I don't know.

My theory is the tower is to distract guests from looking at the big drop right before they go around to Slippin' Falls.

Percentage of guests who will head for the newly opened Tiana ride, take one look at the new exterior, hiss like an angry cat, turn around, march out the front gate and never give Disney another dime: Zero.
No one thinks that's going to happen. Zero.

But people are allowed to be disappointed and suspicious of the new ride due to Disney's recent track record (ha, track record!).

Totally agree about the track record. And I can’t stand the tiara at this stage. But when people are starting to worry about the view from the drop or whether people will be drawn to the ride if the sight lines have changed… I think it’s ok to step back, remember that the ride is a long, long way from completion and realize that sometimes all of us armchair Imagineers (and I’m absolutely an armchair Imagineer) maybe… just maybe… fret a bit too much about log flumes.

I think the Disney Park experience—especially at WDW—has changed for the worse in so many ways, that the changes to Splash are nothing by comparison. Universal is getting the bulk of my theme park money these days. Even so, I don’t want to judge TBA until I ride it myself.
