No, they don’t. The only reality television I enjoy nowadays is the realistic kind, like Hoarders. Or Supernanny lol.

That’s cuz we re getting old. Lol. I find myself watching the same type of shows and more like food/ travel stuff. Then of course all the stuff my wife has me watch like 90 day fiancée.

Real World Road Rules challenge was my jam!

I think "banned" is a bit too strong of a word, as it suggest an official government action, either at the local or federal level. "Banned in Boston" was a phrase we used decades ago to describe racy material, as Boston politicans in the mid 20th century were notoriously prudish, and a lot of films and books that were available in Los Angeles or Chicago were not available in uptight Boston.

I think the more appropriate wording would be "unavailable" or "removed", as in removed from distribution.

Just like Herbie Goes Bananas or The Ugly Dachshund are also not available on Blu-Ray or Disney+, either. They are not banned, the company that owns them just chooses to not make them available for purchase today.

Now in the case of The Ugly Dachshund, it's because there's not a big enough audience and it makes no sense financially, regardless of how great Suzanne Pleshette looked in 1965. But in the case of Song Of The South, it's just too politically sensitive to release and not worth the headaches, even though a bunch of folks would probably snap up the Blu-Ray and subscribe to Disney+ just to see what all the fuss is about.

Banned? Not quite. Too risky financially and politically to put it out for public sale? Most definitely.

EDIT: Oh for goshsakes!! I typed that and thought I should Google.... Yup, The Ugly Dachshund is available on Disney+. Can someone please find an obscure old Disney movie they've forgotten about??? The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes? Son Of Flubber? Or has Disney released everything they own on Disney+ except Song Of The South and my whole thesis is bunk?
Make Mine Music isn't on Disney+ or Bluray for whatever reason. Last time it was released over a decade ago the first segment was removed, apparently Roy E. Disney hated the Looney Tunes styled gunplay in it, despite allowing the release of the Three Caballeros having a similar amount of cartoony firearm antics.

I interrupt this program to share one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken at Disneyland. My wife and son watching Fantasmic.

I’m at TDL today and just seeing the mountain made me feel emotional. And they haven’t even done anything to the American ones yet!

In the future Americans are gonna be able to come to Tokyo and get teary-eyed seeing the mountain back from the dead. Hopefully, at least.

Totally off topic but on the subject of Tokyo, can we get that Beauty and the Beast mini-land from TDL? Or Fantasy Springs from TDS? Both look incredible, even before construction finishes.

Not to be a buzz kill but I’m not sure how nostalgic I will get as it’s quite a bit different than the DL version. Definitely better than nothing though.

I know, I’m just saying in a world where Splash Mountain literally doesn’t exist anywhere outside Japan anymore it will be a pretty amazing sight to walk into a park to see the mountain again. It’s like if you walked into a theme park and they still had Horizons there.

Splash was going away regardless of the present social-political climate. Disney really isn't spending the kind of money required to redo an attraction over an issue with no resonance outside of Disney fan circles who know the Song of the South connection. I'd actually like to believe Disney cares about racial justice, but I don't believe they do. I think the MBAs in Burbank care about $$$, and the Splash redo just fits with everything else they've done to a T.
Exactly. I'm surprised it took this long. Outside a small percentage of hardcore Disney fans, Splash Mountain has little to no resonance. Until fans found out it was going away, Splash merch wasn't selling. At the end of the day Splash Mountain was an expensive attraction to maintain that brought very little revenue in and they couldn't make on the IP because of its source material. They had two options. Re-theme with an existing IP or start from scratch to try and create a new IP. With how Disney operates it was easy to predict which way they would go.

This was not surprising in the least. It was sort of expected.

Unfortunately, I’m also not optimistic but I think many people are which is... baffling considering Disney’s current track record.

Sounds like you hadn't considered the possibility that there are many people that like what Disney has done recently. Like any era there hits and misses (even Walt didn't bat anywhere near 1000.) I am firmly in camp that believes Disney today has a lot more hits than misses. I respect your opinion that you don't think that, but don't dismiss those of us that don't feel the same way you do.

I can’t think of a single smash hit they’ve made in my lifetime. But that’s just me.

How is my comment you quoted dismissing your opinion?

Splash Mountain is one of the most beloved and iconic attractions of all time- what do you mean it didn't resonate?

Reducing the attraction to the popularity of its source material is disingenuous.

In regards to the merchandise- when the only offerings are some towels, pins, and a couple stuffed animals it's no wonder the merchandise didn't sell! Not to mention the general low quality of the t shirts that aren't half as good as the more recent offerings for Space Mountain. I doubt Big Thunder sells much merchandise, should we change that ride as well?
