Splash Mountain is one of the most beloved and iconic attractions of all time- what do you mean it didn't resonate?

Reducing the attraction to the popularity of its source material is disingenuous.

In regards to the merchandise- when the only offerings are some towels, pins, and a couple stuffed animals it's no wonder the merchandise didn't sell! Not to mention the general low quality of the t shirts that aren't half as good as the more recent offerings for Space Mountain. I doubt Big Thunder sells much merchandise, should we change that ride as well?

As usual, spot on.

Obviously the answer to your BTMRR question is NO but if something did get announced everyone would all of a sudden say they saw it coming, Disneyland is a business and that it only makes sense for it to be re-themed to Woodys Runaway Railway because it sells more merch.

The merchandise in the last two years has actually been pretty good! And it’s sold pretty well, to the best of my knowledge, prior to this event.

It’s weird they waited till right before they “decided” to replace the ride, but better late than never I guess.

For those of you hoping to purchase some 'Splash Mountain' related merchandise once Disneyland reopens....take heed.

This is what things looked like at WDW today within an hour of opening for AP previews.
Note items shown in bags and boxes....

It was my understanding that Disney was cracking down on APs using their discount to make obvious multiple purchases of the same item(s).
There was a big announcement about this last year or so....but perhaps that was only being directed to Disneyland AP'ers...?

Seeing this isn't surprising, but it still makes me very angry.

This is wrong! There should be a limit of what people can buy in the store.

The Splash POPs certainly flew off the shelves but most Park POPs do. Merchandise in general has gotten better since WDI and Merch were combined a couple years ago. With that said, they still don’t give Splash the love it deserves.

I'd take any other recent land from other resorts where Galaxy Edge is, to be honest. Even the stupid Toy Story Land with its 40 foot statues of dolls has a roller coaster.

I can agree with the sentiment but not your specific example. I’d still take GE over Toy Story land. I’ll gladly take Pandora, Fantasy Springs or some sort of BATB ride from Tokyo / 7 Dwarfs Mine Train FL expansion in that plot though.

It is starting to annoy me that OLC does Disney parks better than Disney. It’s annoying to be a fan of product that is being overshadowed in Japan for the last 20 years. Everything they seem to do is with quality first in mind. Kind of like how it used to be here.

They're even doing a better job at the IP only thing. Fantasy Springs is a great way to include IP content in TDS and will really act as almost another gate rather than disrupting the thematic integrity of the rest of the park.

The worst offender is probably the Nemo ride at TDS, and even that from what I hear is generally thought of as an improvement in execution if not in theme.

Tokyo's the gold standard, but tbh the other international parks too are generally better kept up, have better service, have cheaper admission prices, and feel more relaxing than the US parks, even when they're packed to the gills! And all of them are located adjacent to fantastic cities too!

Fantasy Springs will be great. I just keep waiting for them to actually build it! It seems like it's been delayed for an eternity.

I haven't found anyone who really likes the Nemo ride, SeaRider, but then no one really liked its predecessor, StormRider, either. At best, it was a lateral move. I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the original StormRider because it fit better and was weirder.

As for me, I felt Disney was heading down a bad patch with decision making after Tower of
Terror and Pixar Pier. Now that it's evident they are destroying classic Disneyland attractions, I'm out.

Not even a tough choice for me or like ripping off a band-aid, the park has made it clear they want to replace the reasons I visit with inferior products, instead of adding new things.

I will always have the memories at least.
If they ever replace Haunted Mansion for good that would be it for me.

I’m not necessarily saying you’re “wrong” here, but to be honest the American parks beat TDR every day of the week when it comes to the classic Disney elements of charm and park atmosphere/ambience imo.

Something I was thinking about yesterday at the park is that, if you judge just based off attractions, then Tokyo is the best resort in the world right now (Tokyo has the best versions of a lot of classic Disney attractions and also almost perfect attraction maintenance standards)

But Tokyo is actually in the lower half of Disney parks when it comes to atmosphere and ambience (speaking mostly about castle parks here). TDL’s land design is honestly just kind of bad (with few exceptions) I feel like people don’t discuss that enough. A lot of the lands consist of big empty stretches of concrete without much else going on and not much attempt is made to differentiate the lands beyond the color of the concrete changing.

As I get older I’ve noticed my enjoyment of the parks is starting to shift significantly from attractions to atmosphere. I enjoy just being at the parks, sitting down and watching the riverboat go by etc and there a lot of Disney parks that do that better than Tokyo. A lot of the attractions have a “been there done that” feeling for me now having ridden them so many times over so many years.

I expect Haunted Mansion to go the way of Pirates where they just continually "plus" (diminish) it. They already did so with "Constance".

Rumor is the hanging ghost host is being removed
from Florida and Disneyland. Florida's doesn't have the stretching room operating, when it reopens it's likely the ghost host is gone.

Who knows what will be deemed pseudo-faux offensive in the future.
They better leave that alone. if that has been there since 1969 then leave it in.
