I’m

My belief is that the gears are turning, and when they find just the right idea for retheming Splash in an imaginative, exciting way that can still use most of the area infrastructure, it’ll happen.
This is probably what's realistically going to happen.

Splash in Tokyo is likely safe over the short term. It may still be here in ten years, but beyond that may be pushing it.

Heck, if they changed it into an Aristocats ride, the line would probably reach all the way to the park gate.
The chinese stereotype cat will be there and no one will bat an eye. The character is present on merchandise so yeah.

You just want it gone.
OLC bending to Disney on removing Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah is a sign of something, but there's still a big difference between removing a song from a music loop and spending tons of time and money to overhaul a signature attraction and entire mini-land. Not saying that Splash is safe forever at TDL, I have no idea. But I think the reasons for OLC being resistant to re-theming the ride (It's popular with guests, American racial issues are irrelevant in Japan and PatF is not popular in Japan) have not changed.

Also I still have no clue where this idea is coming from that SotS the film is popular or well known in Japan...
Splash is likely safe for the time being as SotS (and those incarnations of the characters) are public domain in Japan and they don't have to pay Disney for royalties.

I’m just being realistic and looking forward to seeing what they do. They’ve removed a classic song for no other apparent reason. They’re also turning their Space Mountain into a yummy-looking lemon meringue pie. Their DL is definitely the most fun castle park to watch evolve.

That’s why I believe they’re going to retheme Splash, but not until they decide on a theme that can still make use of the possum restaurant and all the rest of the land’s Critter Country. They didn’t erase Zip a Dee Doo Dah from the music loops for no reason.

I think an Aristocats attraction would fit better at Fantasyland, considering they have a shop dedicated to Marie over there.

The meltdown over the closing of MK’s Splash tomorrow has been very interesting and entertaining to watch. Some of my favorites, so far:

-folks still thinking a petition will do anything (😂)
-claims that this is the worst decision in the history of theme parks (😂😂)
-talks about how if the overlay isn’t good, how much of a disservice and how awful it will be for the African American community (😂😂😂)

People on Twitter are unhinged. Like, sending death threats to others who do not share their opinion on the closing of a log ride being the worst thing ever unhinged.

Someone said those who aren’t bothered by this change/support it are not Walt Disney fans.💀💀💀

If I didn’t need to get some things done today and if I wasn’t hanging out with one of my best friends, I know exactly what I’d be doing on this fine Sunday.😂🙄🤦🏾‍♀️

Someone brought their Splash Mountain plush collection for a final photo today at Walt Disney World (from a facebook fan group) (This is NOT a shrine of random plushes.) Credit to @JohnD from the Walt Disney World thread.

Yes
Never met any Japanese person here who has any remote clue what Song of the South is or the controversy surrounding it. My guess is most guests think Splash Mountain is original.
This is the correct assessment. Most people have no idea what SotS is, they see the ride as cute animals singing songs including one they've known for decades.
Currently present for Tokyo's current Easter daytime parade "Usatama on the Run" alongside other famous Disney Bunnies.
Br'er Rabbit weren't in Usatama for 2022, they also haven't been out greeting guests since February 2020 despite just about every other character being dug out at some point.

The last I heard is Disney tried to push OLC harder recently and offered to pay more, and it still wasn't enough. Can't say exact numbers but they wanted Disney to cover the vast majority of the cost including marketing for a rehab of any kind, and it still wouldn't be PatF. They conceded to removing the song from loops, that's about the most progress they made.

I was wondering if there'd be a fistfight among the vloggers over who'd take the last log. We're waiting with bated breath...
I will say given some of the chaos I wonder what the plan is out west. Perhaps just a surprise closure to avoid issues for the CMs? Or (if/when we get an announced closure date) maybe a VQ with ILL option to bilk consumers for the last remaining days and better control capacity.

As I recall, ToT west did do a themed hard ticket party event before the GoTG conversion but I don’t think that’s something WDI would want to do given the perception of profiteering off the “problematic” franchise.
