I'm guessing most of the "Burrow's Lament" sequence will be replaced by screens. Maybe they'll replace the Zip-a-Dee-Lady with a screen, too, to save on maintenance costs.

Just watched a ride-through on YT. I'm really going to miss this attraction. I grew up with Splash Mountain (my teen years anyway). It's really going to be weird once it's gone.

I really hope this new ride is done well. From the time you enter the show building to the beginning of the accent there is just about 2-1/2 minutes to work with. That's a lot of time and a lot of space to do something well. If they can't even manage that then Imagineering is truly dead (in my book).

We're probably going to wind up with a bizarre fusion of the Little Mermaid ride and Frozen Ever After with a bit of Demented Hobo Goofy's Runaway Railway That Isn't So Much Running Away As It Is Slowly Crawling Away thrown in.

The retheme of the Magic Kingdom version is likely going to be even worse.

Exactly. That's a huge strike against this project already. One or both of the versions of this are going to have some sizable gaps in which nothing is happening.

Right? It's laughably cringe at this point.

I am ALL for criticizing Disney IF they don't design the attractions on both coasts well, for their respective layouts.

But to literally make statements, in absolutes, that this is what is going to happen, is ridiculous.

I mean, yes and no. Their track record is terrible. This doesn't exist in a vacuum. I am sure some people are being negative just to be negative, but it's not like Disney hasn't set the precedence of being terrible.

I think people are just bracing themselves for the worst to hopefully be pleasantly surprised if it turns out nice.

I always loved the sound design here. It's such a special moment. Disneyland's Splash really nails the immersive aspect. Hearing the singing animals echo from the caves is so emotional. I hope even in the transition to the new attraction, that this is in some way replicated.

While I’m in favor of the retheme, can we just take another moment to laugh at this awful bit of the concept art? What the— It makes it look like the guests now are going to lower a miniature log over their toros and then wade along the flume like they’re driving Fred Flintstone’s car.

I know that today’s Imagineering has to work within certain IP-only parameters, budget cuts and a why-build-it-if-it’s not-merch-able executive mindset, but—even giving them that benefit of a doubt—they have produced some big disappointments lately. Not Six-Flags-built-a-coaster-in-their-parking-lot-and-called-it-done bad, but… just big soggy heaps of “meh” compared to what their predecessors pulled off under a more creative company environment. I am really hoping Splash 2 is excellent, but the recent sloppy concept art and generic name were not great first impressions. I’m still cautiously optimistic, though.

I'm not being negative for the sake of being negative; I like Splash Mountain a lot, so if they're going to replace it with something, I'm going to look at it from every possible angle and, unfortunately due to Disney's recent track record, expect them to muck this up royally.

It's fine that some of you are optimistic. Allow me to have a different opinion. It's ALL speculation at this point. I don't know that it will be terrible, just like none of you know that it will be great. This isn't freshman year history class...I'm not going to check if I'm writing in absolutes or not. It's a forum, for goodness' sake.

Some folks here seem to be running with their speculations and believing them to be facts, yourself included. We don’t know what they’re planning to do with the rides on each coast. We don’t know what’s going to happen. Claiming the rides will have “sizable gaps in which nothing is happening” is strange, since we literally don’t know that. It’s supposed to be speculation, but that sounds like an absolute to me.

Considering that most of both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom are currently operating with the majority of their attractions falling apart and/or with the lights out (INCLUDING brand new attractions), I think it's less "subjective," and more dealing with it realistically, but I am certainly not one to white knight anything.

Edit: Also, the effects on the revamped Snow White stopped working in less than 6 months of it re-opening.

Current Splash has gaps with 'nothing happening,' too. I wouldn't exactly call they geese fishing riveting plot points, but the pauses and the ~atmospheric~ stuff is nice. Constantly being suffocated with *STUFF HAPPENING* isn't that great. We don't even meet Brer Rabbit on the DLR Splash until after we see the trick he played on Brer Fox and Brer Bear. We literally don't know what's going to happen on TBA, but emulating the story beats of the old Splash (including the great exposition with "nothing happening") wouldn't be a bad thing.

Maintenance and a new ride are not really comparable.

Maintenance issues (as far as I know) come down to two major things: staffing and supply chain. I can’t stand the issues happening right now, but it’s not all just because Disney has simply stopped caring (and yes, finances could also be a reason).


Snow White specifically I believe was fixed shortly after the reported projection issues for the last half of the ride (I believe MiceChat noted this the next update after the week they reported the issues, unless there’s a new issue I’m unaware of?)

But let’s take current maintenance out of this, as I don’t believe you can really relate the two.

My take is that Disney has added a lot of great new rides, lands, and experiences. Of course there are always some that are duds, or not as great as they should be, but as a whole I am not as turned off as some are on here (feel free to disagree):

Great additions from Disney over the last many many years (my opinion of course):

- Radiator Springs Racers / Cars Land
- Pandora (FoP, Navi included)
- Guardians Tower
- Runaway Rail (despite the fact it replaced GMR)
- Mystic Manor
- Cosmic Rewind
- Galaxy’s Edge (specifically the land being a very immersive design, but needs more characters / shows)
- RotR

Good but could be improved:

- Frozen Ride (some dead space upstairs)
- Rat (Spider-Man at IoA does it better)
- Little Mermaid (cute but could be better)

Mixed bag / Lacklustre:

- Spider-Man at DCA ( I mean it’s fine… but… I do like the land and characters throughout).
- Pixar Pier (I like that the pier isn’t ugly like DCA 1.0, and I don’t really care about the IP inclusion. It’s mostly the babies on sticks that really grind my gears).

I am sure I am missing stuff. But for me overall, I still see Disney putting out quality, and I think this redo can be more of that.

I have to hope it is. I can’t live in a negative space, the worlds too negative as it is.
